The primary goal of this program is to provide teachers with knowledge, instructional principles and practices for teaching students with disabilities, and to offer the opportunity to pursue a master of science in education degree. Special educators in today’s world are dedicated professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities. They are committed to the field of special education. They appreciate and embrace the diverse range of students’ needs, and typically remain lifelong learners who seek out and implement validated practices supported by research in the field. Special educators are able to work effectively within a variety of settings, situations and personalities.

Curriculum

Our 40 credit hour special education master’s program is now offered in a 100% online format for busy teachers who find it difficult to commute to campus, but who would like to have the opportunity to engage in professional development in a graduate program. Our program provides teachers with a professional core of courses, focusing on special education services and enhancing classroom performance of students with disabilities.

Flexibility

Students can complete the master of science in education degree program in special education online in two years, or in as little as four consecutive semesters (summer/ fall/ spring/summer).

Mentorship

Students can arrange field placements at locations convenient to them, and are able to work with their advisor to complete placement hours within a certification area at the location of employment.
