A degree in sport and recreation management at Niagara University prepares students for leadership positions in the many sectors of this exciting and evolving industry. Our program addresses issues and challenges facing professional teams, collegiate athletics, youth sport, adult recreation, and the overall health and fitness economy. Our program prepares students for careers in this innovative and ever-evolving field by exposing them to a wide array of current issues and giving them the tools to help develop solutions through policy and governance, sport law, sport marketing and promotions, and event and facility management. Our curriculum blends courses in sport management with broaderbased business studies, while putting an emphasis on the skills needed for managers and leaders to succeed upon entering the profession.
On the Field Opportunities
Sport and recreation management students have opportunities to immerse themselves in the field from the time they first set foot on campus. Our students graduate with 800 hours of industry field experience, giving them a serious advantage over the competition. At Niagara, we cover all the bases of the evolving sport industry. Niagara partners with the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Buffalo Bandits, to provide students the opportunity to make a direct impact in the industry before graduation. Major League Baseball spring training offers students valuable knowledge in all facets of baseball operations. If collegiate athletics or youth sport is your game, Niagara’s Division I athletics program and its partnership with Project Play WNY provides pathways to build relationships within those sectors of the industry. Niagara’s outstanding Club Management Association of America (CMAA) provides pathways for students looking to lead this over 2,500 country, golf, athletic, city, faculty, military, town, and yacht clubs in the U.S.
