Honorary Diploma Recipient - Environment and Horticulture
Robert L. (Bob) Martin
Retired General Manager, Martin Farms Ltd.
Robert L. (Bob) Martin is a visionary leader, dedicated community builder, and pillar of the Canadian horticultural industry.
A graduate of the University of Guelph in Economics, he channeled his business acumen into agriculture, serving for decades as the General Manager of Martin Farms Ltd., a family-owned agricultural business in Vineland. Under his leadership, the commercial greenhouse operation grew to specialize in seasonal crops, propagation, and spring vegetable plants. Through major retailers across Ontario and the beloved “Veggie Guy” brand, Martin Farms brought quality greens to countless Canadian tables and has earned prestigious accolades, including multiple Canada Blooms Plant Supplier of the Year awards, and the Loblaw Floral Innovator of the Year award. Martin’s influence extends beyond his own greenhouses. A passionate advocate for the sector, he has lent his expertise to numerous industry boards, serving as past member and chairman of Flowers Canada (Ontario) and Flowers Canada, a board member of the Canadian Greenhouse Alliance, and a representative at the Canadian Horticultural Council. In 2018, he received the Flowers Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his exceptional industry leadership within his business, the community and the floriculture sector.
Deeply committed to education and community, Martin has been a champion for Niagara College, serving as past board member and chair of the Niagara College Foundation Board, and a long-time member of an advisory board for horticultural programs. He has been a long-time member and honorary member of the Niagara Branch of Master Gardeners, a member of the Grimsby Rotary Club, and formerly hosted Cogeco’s Simply Gardening program. Now retired, Martin continues to share his passion for the field in customer and grower support with GGS Structures. In addition to his community involvements, he enjoys gardening, lecturing, golfing, and cherishing time with his grandchildren, Lark and Luna.
