HWCS Guide The Health, Wellness and Community Services (HWCS) department empowers students to reach their full potential by supporting their health and wellness through various programs, events, services, resources, and partnerships.

Below you will find a detailed description of what we offer.

Our goals

• Educate students on the importance of mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being.

• Offer strategies and techniques to

achieve personal and professional goals.

• Enhance students’ well-being by fostering cultural adaptation and promoting social interaction to cultivate a sense of belonging and connection.

• Refer students to professional healthcare providers and offer healthcare guidance to students’ family members.

• Offer culturally responsive services that respect and celebrate cultural diversity.

What we do

• Respond to students’ inquiries related to guard.me and keep.meSAFE. • Help foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community.

• Offer general health referrals.

• Liaise with community partners.

• Offer emotional, mental, and physical health support.

• Offer support with cultural adaptation and social engagement.

• Coordinate peer support groups and programs.

• Create and distribute health education literature.

• Organize workshops, question and answer (Q&A) sessions, and webinars.

• As an NCT student, you are covered by guard.me health insurance. This policy provides emergency health insurance benefits for illnesses or injuries.

• MobileDOCTOR is a service provided by guard.me. It allows students to connect with a doctor via virtual meetings or online conveniently.

keep.meSAFE The keep.meSAFE Mental Wellness Student Support program is a support service available to all NCT students. The program can support you with a variety of mental health and wellness related concerns.

You can contact keep.meSAFE 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7) to speak with an experienced and professional counsellor.

• The program can support you with a variety of mental health and wellnessrelated concerns.

• Connect via the My SSP application (app). keep.meSAFE counsellors:

• Are available 24/7 at no cost to you.

• Keep your information confidential.

• Understand your culture.

• Speak your language.

Good2Talk Good2Talk is a mental health support service for post-secondary students.

Good2Talk offers professional counselling, mental health information, and referrals to local resources.

One-on-one Wellness Appointments HWCS provides one-on-one support for students with emotion, mental, or physical health concerns.

Educational Workshops and Events Workshops

• HWCS offers informative and educational workshops related to health and wellness on topics, such as managing stress and anxiety, sleep hygiene, personal image, time management, and much more.

Events

• HWCS facilitates peer connection groups, helping students build connections, plan for goals, and engage with peers on campus.

• HWCS facilitates support groups that engage students in an intimate setting on topics, such as self-care, time management, habit change, and more.

• HWCS campus information booths inform students about guard.me, keep. meSAFE, mobileDOCTOR, and HWCS services, events, and activities.

NCT Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Club The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Club strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals, regardless of various aspects of identity, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or any other basis of difference.

The Club helps plan educational events, conduct community-building activities, and inspire change, because a more inclusive community is a more equitable community.

HWCS Ambassadors and Volunteers The HWCS department recruits, supervises, and supports a team of Student Ambassadors and volunteers.

Student Ambassador supports the ongoing events, activities, and initiatives of the HWCS department and report to the HWCS coordinator.

•

The HWCS Volunteer program offers the following positions:

Liaising with Community Partners HWCS is responsible for contacting and liaising with new and current community partners and vendors. Our goal is to maintain relationships with community partners while expanding and enhancing student resources within the broader community.

Other Initiatives • HWCS Unibuddy Community » Visit the Unibuddy platform and join the HWCS community group. Meet with peers and discuss health and wellness topics or share tips with and offer support to members of the NCT community.

Hygiene Kits: HWCS provides students with free personal hygiene kits, feminine products and filtered water, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST in Room 102 at the Mirvish Building (740 Bathurst Street).
