Publication
THE MUSE is the student-run literary arts publication at Northview High School. Each year, our publication releases our annual literary magazine issue in addition to monthly website updates which explore the impact of arts on our society. Both the magazine and website spotlight student writing and art in order to encourage the Northview student body to explore creative outlets and artistic expression. Each magazine aims to explore a thoroughly discussed and developed theme that aims to answer or draw attention to an issue pertinent to our communities. Our goal as a publication is to highlight the voices of our majority-minority student population through varying forms of the arts and sustainability as a safe space for all. This year, our staff consists of fourteen members, including two co-editors-in-chiefs who plan the classroom curriculum and oversee the overall production of the magazine and website. Through the course of the school year, each staff member creates several works of art and writing, designs 3-5 magazine layouts, and publishes 4 art-related web pages. This year, THE MUSE plans to sell 50 physical copies for 20 dollars each, as well as release the issue on our website to ensure all can access our work.
Editor’s Note
In creating Appetite, we first and foremost considered how the theme could be applied to the Northview student body. We are ambitious, forward, and the next generation of dreamers and movers. In other words, our “appetite” is insatiable. As you read through the magazine, we urge you to freely explore the depths of your hunger: dreaming, wondering, and growing. And to eagerly and voraciously imagine who you want to become: what impacts your ambitions will have on the world around you.

Philosophy
We are the dreamers. Our dreams are the fleeting whimsies of what we can become: a version of ourselves chasing knowledge & progress & life. Yes, this generation dreams. We’ve all felt it— the slow discontent gnawing, hungering, growing within us: a voracious desire to learn & grow. We are the insatiable generation; we desire it all. Through our literary magazine, we invite you to experience those wants with us as a three-course meal. Starting with the appetizer, an initial curiosity emerges featuring light colors like the moment of discovery & sparks of desires. When our hunger deepens, the entree is served. It is dark, mired in all that we may become. But as dessert finally arrives, we start to question. Are we truly fulfilled? Can we grasp the version of ourselves that we dream of? Regardless of the answer, we hope that you find your own hunger. We hope that your own appetite grows, insatiable, red, and waiting.

My dear,
How could you say that?
To say she was embarrassing, Weird and strange?
How could you say that?
She was only having fun, She was just a young girl, Enjoying her life.

,
If she would have known, How you would talk about her, Oh how difference you would have turned out. She was always excited to meet you, She fantasized about what you would be like, You remember, don’t you?
You may not say That you wish to be young again
If all you do, Is wish you hadn’t been young.

Thank you!
THE MUSE would like to thank the Northview faculty and staff for their endless support of our literary arts magazine. The limitless support of the journalism department, media specialists, and our fellow classmates allowed us to grow and ultimately find our own “appetite.” But most of all, we would like to give our immense gratitude to Mr. Hancock, our advisor. His guidance, encouragement, and support gave us the courage to become better writers, artists, and designers.
Additionally, we would like to thank the amazing and talented students of Northview High School. We are honored to feature their visceral pieces of poetry, prose, and art. Finally, we’d like to thank you— the readers. Thank you for supporting THE MUSE, and thank you for allowing us to share our dreams and hunger and appetite with you.
