NHPTV Connections The Roosevelts: An Intimate History They were icons who influenced 20th century American history more than perhaps any other family. Through wars, revolutions, depressions, and movements, the three led the country during “America’s century.” At times they had little in common but for one thing they always had in common: their ability, desire and conviction to lead. This 7-part documentary, by NH’s own award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, tells the stories of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three of the most prominent figures in American politics. This landmark film weaves their individual lives into a single narrative for the first time. Premieres September 14 - 20 at 8 & 10 PM Get Action (1958-1901) Teddy Roosevelt becomes the youngest president in US history at 42. Meanwhile, Franklin Delano admires his older cousin’s career. In the Arena (1901-1910) Theodore makes himself loved in the White House. FDR courts and weds Eleanor. The Fire of Life (1910 -1919) Theodore campaigns for American entry into WW I. Franklin becomes Assistant Secretary of the Navy, while Eleanor finds war work. The Storm (1920-1933) Franklin runs for vice president. Polio devastates him the following summer. Eleanor builds a political life of her own. The Rising Road (1933-1939) FDR’s sweeping New Deal restores the people’s self-confidence. Eleanor becomes a political force. The Common Cause (1939 -1944) FDR shatters the third-term tradition, struggles to enter WW II. Eleanor struggles to keep New Deal reforms alive in wartime. A Strong and Active Faith (1944 -1963) FDR wins re-election but dies shortly after. When Eleanor dies in 1962, she is mourned as the First Lady of the World.

Best Of The Season
September brings a notable, if not entirely welcome, shift in our personal schedules. But we have a number of new programs in the NHPTV lineup that will help take some of the sting out of the end of summer! Having seen two episodes and heard Ken Burns talk about his latest film, The Roosevelts, I’m especially looking forward to seeing the entire series. We’re also offering two screenings this month where you can preview the documentary and hear two of his Florentine Films producers provide context on researching and making a Ken Burns film. Other programs I’m eager to share with you include two new NOVA specials on vaccines and our digital lives; several entertaining new British programs (Masterpiece, Moone Boy, Spy); and a patriotic celebration of Francis Scott Key and “The Star-Spangled Banner” on September 13th. Thanks for watching and supporting NHPTV! Peter Frid, NHPTV President & CEO and NHPTV Member
