NHPTV Connections Documenting America’s Eras Telling the story of America’s politics and causes in unbiased detail is a PBS speciality. In a series of programs this month, this ability shines through in these programs. On Dick Cavett’s Watergate, the 40th anniversary of the Watergate scandal documents it in the words of the people who lived it: from the botched burglary at the Democratic National Headquarters; to the must-see TV of the daily Congressional Watergate hearings; to the ongoing behind-the-scenes battle between the White House and “The Dick Cavett Show,” culminating with the resignation of President Nixon on August 9, 1974.

Summer’s Best Summer is keeping my family busy with trips to the beach, ice cream sampling and projects around the house. When our granddaughter stays with us, and we’ve all had enough activity for the day, we’re happy to know there are great programs on NHPTV that suit the tastes of adults as well as kids. A few items of note: If you’ve been reading the Connections newsletter on your iPad each month, we want you to know we’ve switched to another application that will allow it to be read on all devices, mobile and otherwise. That launches this month and does not require a special app. Look for the link on our schedule page nhptv.org/schedule. And, I have two save-the-dates for you: our special preview of The Roosevelts next month (see box below), and our first NHPTV Family Fun Day here at NHPTV on September 27, complete with PBS characters and lots of fun! Join Us For A Preview & Discussion Of The Roosevelts In Manchester Find out how Ken Burns’ producers research and create his documentaries, and hear from Anne Roosevelt, granddaughter of Franklin Delano and Eleanor Roosevelt, at a screening preview of Burns’s new documentary The Roosevelts: An Intimate History at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm’s College September 10th at 7 p.m. This event is free of charge and open to the public, but registration is required as seating is limited. The seven-part, 14-hour film, which premieres on NHPTV September 14, follows Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt for more than a century. Together, these three individuals not only redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and with each other, but also redefined the role of the U.S. within the world.
