NHPTV Connections Meet Two Of America’s Famous Storytellers Walt Disney

He created one of the most beloved cartoon characters in history, Mickey Mouse; conceived the first ever feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; pioneered the integration of media and marketing with thousands of branded products; invented the anthropomorphic wildlife documentary; and conceived Disneyland. And while he was a polarizing figure – though true believers vastly outnumber his critics – Walt Disney’s achievements are indisputable. This new two-part, four-hour film from American Experience examines Disney’s complex life and enduring legacy, featuring rare archival footage from the Disney vaults, scenes from some of his greatest films, and interviews with biographers, animators and artists who worked on early films, and the designers who helped turn his dream of Disneyland into reality. In 1966, the year Walt Disney died, 240 million people saw a Disney movie, 100 million tuned in weekly to a Disney television program, 80 million bought Disney merchandise, and close to seven million visited Disneyland. Nearly fifty years later, his reach remains enormous. Few creative figures before or since have held such a long-lasting place in American life and popular culture.

September 2015 Our Winning Stories We brand ourselves as “New Hampshire’s storyteller,” and here are a few reasons why. In August we hosted an event at Lake Sunapee on the beautiful grounds of The Fells. Will Lange and Rebecca Rule provided the entertainment, enthralling the crowd with funny and compelling stories. New seasons of the programs they host, Windows to the Wild and Our Hometown, begin this fall. In other storied news, two NHPTV-PBS KIDS Writers Contest participants won national prizes, making this the 10th time NHPTV winners have placed in the PBS contest. You can read their stories at nhptv.org/kidswrite. Inspiring and unique stories are what make Windows to the Wild, Our Hometown and other NHPTV and PBS shows so rewarding to produce and share with you. Be sure to tell us about any interesting stories that you think are worth sharing with fellow viewers. On a separate note, you may have heard about changes to the relationship between PBS and Sesame Street. There is no need to worry about this seminal program. Sesame Street will continue to air weekly on NHPTV, and next year we will air new episodes. Thank you for your support. Peter Frid, NHPTV President & CEO

The Civil War Ken Burns’s award-wining documentary brought to life America’s most destructive and defining conflict: the Civil War. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the war, NHPTV and PBS are re-airing a digitally remastered version of the epic documentary that set the standard for historical documentaries. Follow the war from an indictment of slavery to the battle of Gettysburg to the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and Lincoln’s assassination. The broadcast, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the series’ initial broadcast in 1990, is a newly restored high-definition version.
