NHPTV Connections Trailing Adventure With Will Lange On Season 12 Of Windows To The Wild Where will the trail of adventure lead on season 12 of Windows To The Wild? Join host Will Lange, award-winning producer Phil Vaughn and videographer/producer Steve Giordani as they cover the outdoors from New York State to Vermont to Mt. Washington and points all around. This month, Will gets involved in trail magic and walks memory lane in the Adirondacks. Later this season, he meets Laura Zerra, a survivalist famous for her appearance on the Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid series. He'll also catch up with best-selling author Tom Ryan and his new pup Samwise, who is following in Atticus's pawsteps on the trail. Join the adventure online, anytime at nhptv.org/windows.

Trail Angels On The A.T. When hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail, you'll bump into folks walking the entire stretch from Georgia to Maine, as well as those doing shorter segments. These hikers encounter little way-stops where local folks offer relief from the trail in the form of food, beverages, rides, postal box, or just a friendly ear. They are known as trail angels, and they offer "trail magic." Will joins past A.T. hikers Scott Ellis and his friend Austin at their trailside grill where they offer hikers tasty trail magic as a way of paying forward what they've received – and in exchange for some good trail stories.

Poldark In 18th century Cornwall, times are as tough as the rocky shoreline: unemployment, hunger, and sickness are widespread among the working class, while wealthy landowners prosper. One man dares to defy the status quo. After his life-or-death courtroom drama, Ross behaves in a less than heroic manner. With Demelza's unexpected pregnancy, several dangerous flirtations, and a storm brewing between Poldark and George Warleggan, there is plenty of drama on the horizon.

The Durrells In Corfu Keeley Hawes (The Tunnel, Upstairs Downstairs) stars as an intrepid widow who decamps from 1930s England to a sun-dappled Greek island with her four recalcitrant children. There's an epic quality of Greek myth in this amusing series: Gerry’s enchantment with the animals on the island; Margo and Leslie’s quests for the opposite sex; Larry’s struggle to get his writing published; and Louisa’s futile stratagems to force her children to get jobs. This six-part series is an adaptation of Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals and sequels.

To Duel And To Parry

Hamilton's America

The story of Alexander Hamilton is most remembered for its dramatic conclusion, which saw Hamilton killed in a duel by Vice President Aaron Burr. But the full story of this political genius – a poor immigrant who built himself up from nothing to become one of the nation’s most vital architects – has largely been forgotten by history…until now. Follow Lin-Manuel Miranda in a behind-the-scenes Great Performances documentary, as he brings his vision of the super-popular Hamilton to the stage. This program launches the PBS Fall Arts Festival, airing Fridays at 9 PM.

Mark Twain Prize: Bill Murray Known for his ironically insincere yet soft-hearted characters on film and television, Bill Murray is the most recent recipient of the Mark Twain Prize. Recorded at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, this special features a star-studded cast of Murray’s friends and colleagues. Guests include entertainers and comedians such as Dan Aykroyd, Aziz Ansari, Bill Hader, David Letterman, Paul Shaffer and Sigourney Weaver.

Independent Lens: Best of Enemies

As India vies for independence and British rulers struggle to hold power, illicit agreements, romance and drama abound. The summer home of British aristocracy is on the verge of revolution. This month, a family secret is revealed, but it comes at a cost for Adam and Ralph. Meanwhile, Alice decides to take a stand against her husband, Aafrin is trapped in a nightmare and something unpredictable is about to shake things up at Simla.

In the summer of 1968, television news changed forever. Dead last in the ratings, ABC News hired two towering public intellectuals to debate each other during the Democratic and Republican national conventions. William F. Buckley Jr. was a leading light of the conservative movement. Gore Vidal, a Democrat and cousin to Jackie Onassis, was a leftist novelist and polemicist. Neither could agree with the other.

The Contenders: 16 for '16

Presidential Debate Coverage

This eight-part series reveals the humanity, the twists of fate and the surprising mistakes behind 16 of the most compelling and tumultuous presidential campaigns in modern history. This month, take a look at visionaries like Gary Hart and Jesse Jackson; two candidates who etched out a third party bid (Ralph Nader and Ross Perot); and other candidates.

Co-anchored by Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff with commentators David Brooks, Mark Shields and Amy Walter, the PBS NewsHour presents live coverage and analysis of the presidential and vice presidential candidates’ debates. Count on PBS to provide thoughtful coverage this season.

American Experience: Tesla

American Masters: Norman Lear

Sundays • 10 PM on NHPTV PRIME

Nikola Tesla has had electric cars, rock bands, a unit of measurement, and a planet named after him. But eclipsed by contemporaries such as Edison and Marconi, the visionary scientist died impoverished and largely forgotten. Take an in-depth look at Tesla, who imagined a world of robots, radio, radar, remote control, the wireless transmission of messages and pictures, and harnessing the wind and sun to provide free energy to all.

Monday, October 3 • 10 PM on NHPTV PRIME

Largely responsible for the explosion of bold American television in the 1970s, writer/producer Norman Lear’s name is synonymous with the sitcom. Hear stories from his turbulent childhood, early career, groundbreaking TV success (All in the Family, The Jeffersons), and social activism. Features interviews with John Amos, George Clooney, Rob Reiner, as well as cinéma vérité moments with Mel Brooks, Jon Stewart and Amy Poehler.
