NHPTV Connections Summer Tales Of Love And War Masterpiece: Poldark Almost 40 years ago, Captain Ross Poldark galloped across the TV screens of millions of PBS viewers, vexing villains and winning female hearts in one of the earliest hit series on Masterpiece. Now the gallant captain rides again in a thrilling revamped version with all the action, adventure, and romance of the original, plus spectacular Cornish scenery and local color. Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) stars as Captain Ross Poldark, a Redcoat who returns home to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolution. Eleanor Tomlinson stars as Demelza, a strong-willed miner’s daughter who escapes from home and finds refuge and more with the aristocratic Poldark. The series begins as Poldark returns home to find that he’s assumed to have been killed in action. He discovers that his father has died and left him a meager inheritance and ruined land, his love Elizabeth has forsaken him and is about to marry his cousin. His uncle and the local gentry suggest he leave to make his fortune elsewhere since Poldark apparently has it all stacked against him. How little they of know this headstrong adventurer!

Crimson Field In a tented field hospital on the coast of France during the First World War, teams of doctors, nurses and women volunteers work together to heal the bodies and souls of men wounded in the trenches. Oona Chaplin stars in this new drama about these frontline medics — with a heartfelt look at their hopes, fears, triumphs and tragedies. The hospital is a frontier: between the battlefield and homefront but also between the old rules, hierarchies and a new way of thinking. Each of the six episodes — with Hermione Norris, Kevin Doyle, Kerry Fox and Marianne Oldham — features stories about the patients, who include British soldiers, international troops and civilians.

June 2015 Summer Produces The sun is out, the farmers’ markets are back, and summer vacations are just around the corner. And our producers will be roaming the state working on new episodes of our programs. This month, we’re celebrating the NHPTVPBS Kids Writers Contest winners at the Currier Museum, and author and storyteller (and host of Our Hometown) Rebecca Rule will be the speaker. You can read the winning stories at nhptv.org/kidswrite. I hope by now you’ve had a change to watch our newest series, Our Hometown. The stories from Peterborough were so numerous that there are 36 video stories online; they’re all at nhptv.org/hometown. Speaking of Our Hometown, we’ll be up in Colebrook this summer, working on the next episode. If you’d like your town or city to be featured, email us at hometown@nhptv.org. And, if you’re looking for good cheer this fall, here’s a reminder that tickets to our 2015 Passport Craft Beer and Food event go on sale this month and will sell out fast! Details at nhptv.org/passport. Enjoy your summer! Peter Frid, NHPTV President & CEO
