NHPTV Connections The Drama Of Sunday Night Victoria After the sudden death of her uncle, Alexandria Victoria was called at the age of 18 to lead her country. This lush and riveting new series from Masterpiece continues, as the young Queen finds her footing and power in a world dominated by men. Her loyal confident Lord Melbourne advises her to find a mate and strengthen her position as the leader of Great Britian. When she picks Prince Albert, her first cousin, she marries for love. All the while, she navigates politics and palace life, setting the stage for her often tumultuous reign of 63 years. Famous for her candor and spirit, Victoria seemed to have it all: a passionate marriage, nine children and the job of being queen of the world’s most important nation. (If you're a member of NHPTV Passport video on demand, you can binge watch the entire series now online anytime!) Sundays • 9 PM on NHPTV PRIME (does not air 2/26; season finale is 3/5)

Mercy Street The acclaimed original PBS Civil War drama continues, taking us closer to the war and into the halls of Confederate power, all set against the intensifying war, starting with the Seven Days’ Battle and culminating with Antietam. After a failed attempt to assassinate President Lincoln, Frank is sought by a detective named Pinkerton and deceives Emma about his activities. Meanwhile, her sister Alice spies for the Confederates. A former slave, Charlotte Jenkins, is working in a contraband camp, where formerly enslaved African Americans endure horrific living conditions and disease, but also get a glimpse of freedom. She identifies the beginning of a smallpox epidemic and enlists Samuel Diggs to help her cause, but the situation is fraught. With Mercy Hospital under the rule of a maniacal and incompetent director, Dr. Foster, Dr. Hale, Nurse Mary and Nurse Hastings face challenging situations amid the horrors of a war that brings them new patients hourly. Sundays • 8 PM on NHPTV PRIME (does not air 2/26; season finale is 3/5)

February 2017 We'll Help You See The World

As fans and members of New Hampshire PBS, you're familiar with our travel programs. Whether it's Windows to the Wild, Rick Steves, or exotic locales on Travelscope, you're only a click away from seeing the world. I find these shows, with their focus on sights and history, fascinating. And when there's an opportunity to experience travel...count me in! That's why I'm excited about our Discover Germany trip planned for early September. We have a guide, Dr. Stephen Reno, who is an expert on Germany and religion. His name may be familiar to you as the former chancellor of USNH. On the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we'll follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther and travel around Germany from Munich to Berlin, with many stops in between. Head over to nhptv.org/travel for more information! Closer to home, book your ticket to see Rick Steves at The Music Hall in Portsmouth on March 28th. He's a compelling speaker, and you won't want to miss him talk about how we can broaden our perspective through travel. Get your tickets at nhtpv.org/events; it's going to be a great show! All the best wherever your travels take you, and thanks for your support. Peter Frid, President & CEO
