Critters Meals on Wheels

Several years ago, our drivers discovered many seniors were sharing their meals with their pets and neither were getting enough to eat. Critters Meals on Wheels began. The resulting seniors who are able to keep their pets have a reduction in loneliness, anxiety and depression. We are proud to help make this possible for the seniors enrolled in our Meals on Wheels program.

Adult Education

Meals on Wheels provides a daily nutritious meal for people who are unable to prepare their own meal.

Neighborhood House is honored to have been delivering meals in the Peoria area since the 1970s. Fifty years later we are delivering to over 800 participants throughout Peoria and Tazewell Counties. It is our privilege to be able to continue to provide for this need within our community.

We are committed to providing resources and education to empower our community to reach their fullest potential.

Neighborhood House is here to help empower our community through all life stages. Whether you want to complete your GED, become a better reader, or further your education in general, Neighborhood House’s Adult Education Program can help you achieve your goals.

At Neighborhood House, the Adult Education Program offers: • GED classes (language arts, math, social studies, and science) • Adult Basic Education classes and one­on­one tutoring • Flexible learning (individualized) • Classes in budgeting, building credit and workplace skills • Northstar certification in Computer Basics, Internet Basics, Email, Windows OS, Mac OS X, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Social Media, Information Literacy • Employment counseling • Lunch and learn events

Annual Winter Coat Giveaway Each fall we giveaway hundreds of new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves to help prepare our community for the winter weather.

Santa for Seniors Through our partnership with UFS we are able to provide annual holiday gifts to over 1,000 local senior citizens within our community. This is a great volunteer opportunity for local organizations, groups and families.

Angel Tree Traditionally it has been our pleasure to host our annual Toy Shop during the holiday season for families. However, COVID dictated the need to adapt this program.

We were glad to modify our outreach to an Angel Tree, which allowed us to continue to give back to the community in a collaborative way during the holiday season.

FEED

FEED Food Pantry & Sunday Meals Far too many in our community face food insecurity. Neighborhood House provides free resources to support individuals and families to ensure no one is going hungry.

Food Pantry • 2nd and 4th Thursday of Every Month • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM or until 75 boxes have been distributed • Participants will need to show a government­issued ID

Sunday Meals With the help of local churches and organizations, families can come to Neighborhood House every Sunday for a meal. Meals are served at 12:00 p.m. This program is funded and operated by volunteers and is a great opportunities for large groups and families to volunteer and serve our community.

EDUCATE Youth Programs – After­School & Summer Neighborhood House is proud to support the children and families in our community year­round through the various free youth services programs we offer.

After School Program During the school year this program offers educational support and fun activities for children in our community.

Monday – Friday: 2:30 p.m.­5:30 p.m.

Ages 5 – 15 Participating children will receive: • Nutritional meal • Gym time • Homework help • Tutoring • Snack Summer Camp We provide an 8 week summer day camp for area youth, ages 5­15. Camp participants will enjoy a variety of fun, engaging activities and field trips.

Daily sessions are Monday thru Friday 8:30am until 4:00pm Breakfast, a snack, and lunch will be provided.

Volunteer Opportunities Helping the Community through Neighborhood House Neighborhood House is always interested in people who want to help their community and provides multiple opportunities through various programs at different times of the year.
