Brigadoon owner Cheryl Mackie (right), with granddaughter Stephanie Mackie (left). In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre is pleased to announce their Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, Cheryl Mackie of Oxford Mills. Cheryl received this award during our virtual event on Tuesday, March 8. The Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize a woman who has been in business for many years, and to celebrate her achievements as a business leader in our community. We have awarded nine LAA prior to this one. Cheryl Mackie is the

owner of The Brigadoon Restaurant. Cheryl opened the restaurant in Oxford Mills 32 years ago! She is strong, courageous, tenacious, gracious, generous, kind, and is a loyal community supporter. Cheryl immigrated to Canada from England when she was 17. She has worked in hospitality most of her life in management roles for various Ottawa restaurants. She had an eye on becoming independent and she made that happen through hard work and tenacity. Along with her partner at the time, she started the hunt to purchase a building for her own British style eatery.

After much research and showings, the building at 9 Bridge St, Oxford Mills, was the one! Cheryl and family and friends began renovations right away. With lots of elbow grease, their vision for The Brigadoon came to fruition. They provide fine dining in one of Ontario's finest heritage buildings. They offer lunch, dinner, Sunday roast lunch, afternoon tea, and many themed evenings. Cheryl has always been a community supporter. She has donated to the local library, sponsored curling teams and other sports teams, and she has given to the Kemptville Youth Centre, plus many,

many more causes. Another descriptive word would be resilience. Along with her granddaughter, Stephanie, who now helps Cheryl run The Brigadoon, they continued to provide service to their community through the pandemic in the form of take out. They are looking forward to serving their customers in person again moving forward. Congratulations to Cheryl on 32 years of success! It is an impressive milestone, and we appreciate all of her hard work and dedication to her community, to her business and to her family.
