WELCOME TO NFFTY 2012 PRESENTED BY BING!

T

he films in the festival this year are unquestionably the most outstanding collection of films we’ve ever had, and perhaps one of the most incredible lineups of films in any festival ever. With 222 films coming from 30 U.S. states and over 20 countries, you can imagine the vast diversity and unique entertainment these films bring. The stories of NFFTY 2012 are heart-stopping, laugh-out-loud funny, gut wrenching and truly unforgettable.

But we can’t do all this alone — WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Talented Youth, NFFTY’s parent organization, is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. We must raise money from individual donations to maintain stability, sustain our festival, and grow year round educational programming. We have a goal of raising $20,000 during this festival weekend from individual donations. Please consider a donation of any size to help support the great things we do. We have some great thank you gifts too! Thanks for coming to NFFTY and discovering what’s next in film! Enjoy the shows!

Not only is this a phenomenal year at NFFTY for great films, but we’ve added an entirely new component to the festival: Future of Film Expo, co-presented by The Next Fifty (celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Seattle’s World’s Fair). The Expo, right in the middle of NFFTY 2012 (Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28), brings the best in film education, new technology, and industry experts to Seattle. The Expo features over 30 exhibitor booths, 15 filmmaking panels and workshops led by industry experts, plus amazing hands-on learning experiences for film enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Best of all, it’s all free!

This has also been a big year for our Youth Filmmaking Excellence Program. We provided several professional level workshops for Seattle area filmmakers in high school, with an emphasis on supporting students with limited financial and film resources. We have plans for many more this summer and fall.

If audiences know a director is gay, does it (and should it) change their perception of a film? What are the potential risks and benefits of being identified as a queer filmmaker? Presented by the Academy of Interactive Entertainment | Award-winning author, animator and educator, Tony White, presents some of his award-winning 2D animated films and underlines why traditional art skills are fundamentally important - not only to traditional animators but for all contemporary CG artists intending to work in both the film and computer game industries! “ Presented by the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) | Between “FADE IN:” and “FADE OUT” every screenwriter has a list of essential points that must be covered. They include the primary and secondary goals of the protagonist, the well-defined antagonist, a welldefined “Ordinary World” and all the complications that propel the protagonist on his or her journey to defeat the forces that challenge him or her or, conversely, that defeat the hero.

Welcome /

April 27–28 Seattle Center Exhibition Hall 11am–5pm Daily Free

We hope you find this as exciting of an opportunity as we do and block off ample time to take it all in! How better to explore the Future of Film than with the directors of tomorrow! See you there!

What is the Future of Film Expo? -

Here at NFFTY, we receive countless questions from filmmakers about equipment, schools, and film industry contacts. We also hear from film schools and film technology companies asking how they can be more connected with our NFFTY filmmakers. So we decided to bring it all together into an event celebrating film—not just for our filmmakers, but all filmmakers and film fans! We searched for the most interesting topics, panelists, newest innovations in equipment— what we would want to see as filmmakers and enthusiasts ourselves! We partnered with the Next Fifty, a six-month celebration of the 1962 World’s Fair at the Seattle Center, to bring you this FREE 2-day Expo featuring exhibitor booths, speakers, workshops, panels, demonstrations, lounges and networking opportunities, for filmmakers, and film fans of all ages.

For Film Enthusiasts & Professionals: -

The Future of Film Expo will have exclusive panels on the newest trends in film technology, music in the film industry, navigating the film school system, as well as, behind the scenes with independent film heavyweights, and more from industry experts. There will also be hands-on demos with major technology, gear companies, and film production brands.

For Beginners & Families: -

Attendees don’t have to be filmmakers to have a great time – the Future of Film Expo will be fun for the whole family! There will be an ongoing Film 101 interactive experience where anyone can come and learn the basics of making a movie, and the Xbox 360® Lounge will feature workshops, roundtable discussions, demos and networking. Plus opportunities to hang out and play with Kinect for Xbox 360 ® and experience the latest in Xbox LIVE ® entertainment.
