The NFBPA, a professional membership organization dedicated to the advancement of Black leadership in the public sector, was founded in June 1983 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Over the years, its membership grew to include managers and executives in virtually all disciplines represented in state and local governments. In addition to public service professionals, the association's membership embraces graduate students, deans, and faculty at schools of public administration, community service professionals, and executives in the corporate sector.

The South Florida Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) celebrates its impactful participation at the NFBPA FORUM 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland, held from April 3rd to 7th under the theme "Excellence in Service, Strength in Leadership." With 116 members actively engaged, our chapter seized the week-long opportunity for workshops, sessions, and networking, enhancing our members' skills and connections on a national scale. We contributed significantly to discussions on critical public administration issues, reaffirming our commitment to leadership development and professional excellence. Our achievements were underscored by prestigious recognitions: Stephanie Moliere received the Steven D. Ford Memorial Award for emerging leaders, and Anthony Snipes was honored with the Marks of Excellence award for his leadership. We also celebrated the graduation of members from the Mentor Program and Executive Leadership Institute, marking milestones in their careers. Andrea Knowles-Hill, Assistant Director, Intergovernmental Affairs/Boards Section is an Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) graduate.

Members of the NFBPA South Florida Chapter recently participated in the Broward Mega Business Mixer in collaboration with the Coalition of Black Organization Leaders (COBOL), marking a significant success in fostering networking and innovation. Held at a prominent venue in Broward County, the event provided a vibrant platform for professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and forge new partnerships across various sectors. Attendees from NFBPA engaged in insightful discussions and gained valuable insights into emerging trends and opportunities in business and community leadership. The mixer exemplified the chapter's commitment to facilitating meaningful connections and supporting the growth and impact of its members in the broader community.

The NFBPA South Florida Emerging Leaders committee held the first annual Executive Chat Mother's Day Brunch. It was a resounding success, held to honor and celebrate mothers within the organization. The event, themed “Balancing Career and Motherhood”, took place on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Palm Beach State College Boca Campus. The event provided a warm and inclusive atmosphere where emerging leaders connected with seasoned professionals and shared insights on balancing career growth with family life. Attendees enjoyed engaging discussions, heartfelt tributes, and networking opportunities that reinforced the supportive community fostered by NFBPA South Florida. The brunch not only recognized the invaluable contributions of mothers in public administration but also underscored NFBPA's commitment to empowering its members through meaningful events and initiatives.

TheNationalBlackForumforBlackPublicAdministrators(NFBPA)SouthFlorida Chapter celebrated the success of its Inaugural Leadership Forum 2024, held onJune28attheColonyWestGolfClubinTamarac,Florida.Themed"Shaping Tomorrow Together," the forum drew enthusiastic participation and facilitated lively exchanges and networking opportunities among attendees. Noteworthy speakers included Alan Williams from The White House, Phyllis Dickerson from the African-American Mayors Association, and Jim Carras from Harvard University'sBloombergCenterforCities,whoofferedvaluableinsightsonurban resilience. Legislative perspectives were shared by Florida State Senators Rosalind Osgood and Jason Pizzo, while a panel on South Florida MegaRegions featured prominent Black women leaders in municipal government. The event also marked the presentation of a $1,500 academic scholarship to Fabio Cabrera, underscoring NFBPA's commitment to nurturing future public administration leaders. Chair Merdochey LaFrance and Co-Chair Daphnee Sainvil expressed gratitude for the collaborative spirit that defined the forum, highlighting its role in addressing community challenges and fostering inclusiveleadership.
