INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

GLOBAL MARKET TREND: AGEING CAR PARC DRIVES DEMAND FOR VALUE-FOR-MONEY SOLUTIONS Drivers are keeping their cars longer, and the global vehicle parc is ageing faster than ever. This trend is creating strong demand for reliable, value-for-money aftermarket parts. DR!VE+, the global aftermarket brand exclusive to NEXUS members, offers workshops the perfect solution to service today’s ageing vehicles efficiently and cost-effectively. Since 2021, the automotive market has been undergoing a significant transformation. In mature markets, more drivers are retaining their vehicles for longer periods, leading to a sustained increase in the average age of the car parc. Economic pressures and uncertainty around the transition from internal combustion engines to electric mobility have encouraged a “wait-and-see” approach. Households are prioritizing cost management but still rely heavily on their cars, meaning vehicles are being kept on the road longer.

This trend is particularly visible in mature markets. In the United States, the average age of light vehicles increased from 11.4 years in 2014 (Bureau of Transportation Statistics) to 12.6 years in 2024 (S&P Global Mobility / Reuters). In the European Union, the average car age rose from 10.6 years in 2016 to over 12 years in 2022, and Germany surpassed the symbolic 10-year mark in 2023. While emerging markets such as China and India show younger fleets, the ageing effect dominates globally because of the size of developed markets. •••

WORKSHOPS AT THE CORE OF AN EVER-CHANGING AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET The automotive aftermarket is a challenge for independent workshops, as it is undergoing one of the most significant transformations of the past decade. Electrification, increasingly complex vehicle systems, digital expectations from drivers, and a globalised supply chain are reshaping the rules of competition. The aftermarket is not just about repairs. It is about building trust, delivering value, and ensuring vehicles perform at their best throughout their lifecycle. Workshops are at the center of the interaction, defining the best option for their customers and ensuring that they are safe and can rely on the repair and maintenance operated on their vehicles. Their position at the centre of aftermarket flows is becoming more visible and more vital than ever. A market driven by new fundamentals Growth in the aftermarket is no longer defined solely by vehicle age or parts availability. It is shaped by broader dynamics: •L onger vehicle lifespans generating consistent maintenance demand and cost-saving solutions (reman, reused...).

•T he rising impact of ADAS, software-driven systems, and EV components, increasing the need for high-level diagnostic and repair skills. •C ustomer expectations shift toward clarity, responsiveness, and digital access. •C ompetitive pressure challenging workshops to strengthen their differentiation and value proposition. ANTICIPATING THE AFTERMARKET: HOW GIPA’S FORECASTING SUITE HELPS THE INDUSTRY SEE BEYOND TOMORROW Have you ever wondered what the future will look like? In today’s accelerating automotive aftermarket, anticipating is the only way to secure competitiveness, align resources, and meet customers’ expectations in time. But predicting the future is not easy and GiPA has made this challenge its core mission developing a complete forecasting suite that turns complexity into clarity: GiPA SDP360, GiPA Horus, and GiPA Geoparts. Together, these tools give strategists, product managers, and executives the ability to understand what is happening, what will happen and what they should do about it. A European overview As an example with GiPA SDP360, GiPA’s long-term vehicle parc projections show a landscape that is indeed transforming, just more gradually than what was expected some months ago. By 2035, the EV share of the global parc is expected to reach 26.9% globally. In this forecast is included LATAM (Argentina, Brazil, Mexico), Europe (Spain, Germany, France, Italy, UK, Portugal, Poland) and China. Yet despite this expansion, internal-combustion vehicles will continue to dominate the parc in 2035, particularly in Europe, where a slower implementation of the “Green Deal” is extending the life cycle

of ICE vehicles. The car parc is expected to remain composed of approximately 36% Petrol engine, 6% Diesel engine and 7,2% HEV. This evolution carries strategic implications for the entire aftermarket value chain. Through GiPA SDP360 scenario simulations, GiPA identifies where market share shifts are likely to occur. For instance, as the parc progressively incorporates more electrified technologies, the OES channel is forecast to strengthen, gaining 1.2 percentage points, driven largely by product families associated with EV-specific maintenance and high-value technical components. •••

28

SIDE In addition, GiPA SDP360 highlights an expected decrease in sell-out turnover for specific car age segments. Vehicles aged 5-7 years are forecast to generate a decline in turnover between 2026 and 2027. Since this age group represents a significant share of auto centres’ activity, these players may experience a tangible impact on their overall sell-out performance in 2026 and 2027. 

THE INDUSTRY HAS NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITING

I N S I D E E D I T I O N 42 • D E C E M B E R 2025

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OF THE AFTERMARKET I want to start with a clarification: I am not an aftermarket specialist. I am a car engineer. I’ve spent 42 years in this industry—15 at Renault and 27 at Valeo, where I finished as Chief Engineering and Marketing Officer. I am officially retired, but I remain deeply involved because, quite frankly, the automotive industry has never been more exciting than it is today. I now advise several companies, including two new vehicle manufacturers. One is a startup in small mobility, the other focuses on vehicles for people with special mobility needs. In both cases, the same lesson applies: if you do not design the aftermarket from day one, your business model will fail. Service, repair, parts, and data access are no longer downstream concerns—they are structural.

To understand where we are going, it helps to step back. The 20th-century automotive story followed a clear arc: pioneers first, then luxury vehicles, and finally mass-market adoption—driven mostly by incremental engineering. I believe the 21st century will replay this pattern with electric vehicles and digital technologies. We had pioneers in the early 2000s. Today, we are in a phase dominated by premium and luxury EVs. The next—and decisive—phase will be true popularization. The real question is: what will trigger it, and is the aftermarket ready when it does? Four major forces are shaping this transition First, electric vehicles are no longer optional. The 2035 targets are set, and the competitive race with China is already underway. For the aftermarket, this means fewer clutches and oil changes—but it does not mean less business. It means a different business: high-voltage systems, electronics, software, and battery-related services. Those who adapt will find significant opportunity. Second, digitalization and connectivity are reshaping business models. Data-driven services will define value creation. If independent players do not claim a role here, others will—OEMs, tech companies, or platform players. Data access is not a technical issue; it is a strategic one. Third, China is now the only major automotive market still growing strongly. In just a few years, Chinese brands have moved from lagging to leading. This is not theoretical competition—it is happening now, in cost, speed, software, and execution. •••

32

SIDE Fourth, ADAS is rapidly transforming vehicles into sensor-rich systems. Cameras, radar, lidar, and software all require calibration, monitoring, and care. The data they generate enables entirely new aftermarket services—but only if workshops have the tools, skills, and access. All of this sits within two unavoidable global constraints: decarbonization and resource scarcity. Transport is a major source of emissions, and access to critical raw materials is tightening. This makes circularity unavoidable—not recycling first, but repairing, reusing, and remanufacturing before recycling. Circularity is not ideology; it is economics. We also need to talk about light mobility. Scooters, e-bikes, microcars—these are exploding in cities as access for traditional cars shrinks. Yet the service infrastructure for these vehicles is weak or nonexistent. That gap is a clear opportunity for the aftermarket to step in early and define standards. Affordability, however, is the hardest problem we face. In Europe, the average price of a new car has risen by roughly €12,000 in ten years. Regulations explain perhaps €2–3k. Inflation another €2–3k. The rest comes from mix and moving upmarket. Salaries did not follow. Demand is soft not because people no longer want cars, but because they cannot afford them. The aftermarket’s role is therefore essential: keeping vehicles on the road affordably is I N S I D E E D I T I O N 42 • D E C E M B E R 2025

no longer a side mission—it is central to mobility access. There is also a generational shift. The average new-car buyer in Europe is around 58 years old. One Japanese brand is close to 60. Tesla is nearer to 45. In China, the average is about 34. Younger buyers behave differently. They research heavily, value digital experiences, and accept new vehicle formats. Microcars are rising in cities, and policymakers are pushing for sub-€25,000 EVs. These vehicles will need fast, low-cost service—exactly where independent workshops excel. Delivery and fleets are changing as well. Look at large Chinese delivery platforms: hundreds of millions of users, hundreds of thousands of riders, autonomous robots operating 24/7. The message is clear— last-mile electric fleets will require industrial-scale maintenance. This is a new fleet, a new rhythm, and a new service model. The mainstream EV wave will come from entry models under €25,000. In Europe, where roughly half of vehicles are sold into fleets or leasing, these cars will move quickly into workshops. The volume will come faster than many expect. But there is a risk. OEMs already use apps to book service and pre-order parts. This is convenient for drivers, but it can lock independents out. Fair access to in-vehicle data is therefore essential. Without it, competition collapses.

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

Repair economics are also changing. Electronics complexity means that a minor bumper impact can disable radar or lidar and generate repair bills in the thousands. This creates space for smart, safe, lower-cost solutions—strong ADAS calibration offers, new partnerships with insurers, and transparent pricing models. On autonomy, I remain skeptical. Robotaxis may work in controlled zones, but they will remain a niche for the next decade. The idea that autonomy will soon eliminate accidents, body shops, or repair demand is unrealistic. Software-defined vehicles are also more complex than the hype suggests. Architectures are centralizing, suppliers ship more hardware with less software, and “features after sale” rarely sell well—while Chinese competitors often price software at zero. For independents, the lack of standardization across OEM software stacks makes tools and training harder. Standards would help, but we are not there yet. Circularity must become real. At Valeo, we saw how difficult it is to recover cores: in one case, only about 3% of alternators came back from the aftermarket. Without organized collection, circular systems fail. Yet the potential is huge. In a headlamp pilot, around 80% of units that appeared broken still had functioning LEDs and electronics. With plastic repair and testing, remanufacturing became viable—cutting costs and lead times, with 24-hour reuse platforms. This is not theory. It is proven business.

So what does this mean for the aftermarket? First, you must own the customer relationship through convenience and transparency—including mobile service where possible. Second, shift your offer toward high-voltage systems, electronics, software services, calibration, and data-driven maintenance— while continuing to deliver on core items like tires, wipers, and glass. Third, invest in people and tools: diagnostics, ADAS calibration, battery health, and software workflows. Fourth, never forget the human moment— when a driver is stranded, anxious, and needs help now. Fifth, push hard for parts and data standards. And finally, prepare for a long ICE tail from 2035 to 2050. Owners will keep older cars alive longer. Stock, standardize, and serve them efficiently. Change is everywhere. But the opportunity is larger than the risk—if the aftermarket moves now. Stay close to customers. Fight for data access and standards. Invest in skills. Engage OEMs with clarity and firmness. Without a strong, innovative aftermarket, the future of mobility will not be sustainable. 

BIPOLARITY OR MULTIPOLARITY?

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

THE WORLD IN FLUX: GEOPOLITICS AND STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP We are living through a historical rupture. I believe that 2025 marks the end of the post–World War II international order—the system built on American leadership, multilateral institutions, and a shared belief in liberal democracy. This rupture did not happen overnight. It crystallized around what I call two wars and an election. The first was Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022—a frontal challenge to borders, sovereignty, and international law in Europe. The second came on October 7, 2023, with the attacks in Israel and the war that followed, plunging the Middle East back into a conflict with global reverberations. The third event was political rather than military: the re-election of Donald Trump in the United States. Together, these moments tell us that the old rules no longer apply. The United States, which once acted as the guardian of the status quo during the Cold

War, has become a revisionist power—an actor willing to bend or break the very system it once created and defended. That is a profound change, and it is destabilizing not only for America’s allies, but for democracies everywhere. There was a fourth moment for me, more symbolic but no less powerful. On September 3, 2025, China held a massive military parade commemorating its victory over Japan. Watching it, I was struck by an eerie historical echo. It reminded me of Europe’s great royal gathering in 1910—the last moment of imperial pageantry before the catastrophe of World War I. Four years later, Europe was at war. The question we must ask is whether the torch of global power has now passed to Asia. There is a deeper irony here. The slogan “Make America Great Again” may end up producing the opposite of its intent. It risks •••

36

SIDE accelerating a different outcome: Make China Great Again. Even as China faces economic headwinds at home, it projects confidence, pride, and historical continuity abroad. Power, after all, is not only about growth rates—it is also about narrative and momentum.

BIPOLARITY OR MULTIPOLARITY?

How did America, long a source of stability for democracies, become a source of uncertainty? I see three major turning points The first was 9/11, which shattered A merica’s sense of invulnerability and began a long cycle of fear and overreaction. The second was the 2007–2009 financial crisis, which exposed deep inequalities, eroded trust in elites, and fuelled anger toward institutions. The third was the rise of D onald Trump. I see Trump less as the cause of America’s crisis than as its most visible symptom. What matters is not only his unpredictability, but the people around him—actors with a coherent project to reshape the American state in a more authoritarian direction. Authoritarian regimes around the world are watching closely. They interpret America’s turmoil as evidence that liberal democracy is in decline. And from their perspective, time is on their side. Yet this is not a story of pure decline. There are zones of resilience. India, for example, plays a stabilizing role. Rather than chasing great-power confrontation, it is focused on economic consolidation and internal development. Europe, meanwhile, has begun—particularly in

I N S I D E E D I T I O N 42 • D E C E M B E R 2025

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

the first hundred days of what some call “Trump II”—to move from adolescence to adulthood. Forced by circumstance, Europeans are taking greater responsibility for their own security and for the defense of democratic values. I also see what I call an “Asian West”: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and increasingly countries like Indonesia and the Philippines. These societies may not be Western geographically, but they share core strategic and political interests with Europe— rule of law, open societies, and resistance to coercion. On the Middle East, we saw a plan made public just yesterday. It aims to push Arab and Muslim leaders to take shared responsibility for resolving the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, while also demanding significant movement from Israel itself. I am sceptical of its chances—unlikely is the word I would use—but the alignment behind it is nonetheless notable. It suggests that exhaustion may be opening space, however narrow, for new thinking. Looking ahead, I see four possible futures The first is the most dangerous: a return to spheres of influence, where great powers carve up the world by force. This is the road Europe took before World War I—and we know where it led. The second is a new bipolar world, this time dominated by the United States and China. The added danger here is that nuclear weapons begin to feel “normalized,” lowering the psychological barrier to their use.

The third scenario is a managed multipolarity: China, America, India, Russia, and Europe balancing one another—tense, imperfect, but potentially stable. The fourth, and in my view the worst, is chaos within the democratic world itself— as populist and illiberal regimes gain power across the West. Polling trends in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany are deeply worrying. Democracies do not usually collapse from external attack; they erode from within. Where, then, is the good news? Paradoxically, it lies less in geopolitics than in science and medicine. Human progress continues there at an extraordinary pace. But even this hope is ambivalent. Technology is never neutral. Artificial intelligence is already transforming warfare—through drones today, and potentially autonomous systems tomorrow. By lowering the cost of using force, AI risks making conflict more tempting, more frequent, and less restrained. The same technology that may revolutionize cancer treatment could, if left unchecked, make geopolitics far more dangerous. Let me end with an image. The era of “white bread”—of relative stability, predictability, and comfort—is over. We are entering a time of “dark bread”: heavier, harsher, more difficult to digest. The challenge before us is not nostalgia for the world we lost, but clarity about the world we are entering— and the courage to act before the worst scenarios become reality. 

I N S I D E E D I T I O N 42 • D E C E M B E R 2025

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

CASE STUDY: CHINA, ECAV AND NEW INVESTMENT MODELS Let me start with a simple observation: if the automotive market feels chaotic today, it’s because we are not in a cycle—we are in a revolution. I describe this moment with one acronym: ECAV. Electric. Connected. Autonomous. Software-defined Vehicle. The rules that governed Automotive 1.0 and 2.0 are ending. A new game has started, and many players are still using the old playbook. The first thing to understand is how the car itself is changing. The modern vehicle is becoming a phone on wheels. Software now defines the experience far more than mechanics. I joke about people like me—automotive dinosaurs—who dislike touchscreen gear selectors. My daughter, by contrast, switches vehicle settings on a

screen without thinking. This is not a generational anecdote; it is a market signal. Very soon, voice will become the primary interface. Almost everything in the cabin will respond to spoken commands. I have already replaced one administrative role on my team with AI tools. This is not future talk. It is happening now. These changes have deep implications for the aftermarket. Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts, which means less traditional maintenance—no clutches, no oil changes. But what disappears mechanically reappears electronically. Sensors, cameras, radar, software updates, and calibration become central. Diagnostics and data access are no longer nice-to-have; they are existential. Modern vehicles constantly gen•••

SIDE erate data. If independent players cannot read it, interpret it, and monetize it, they will be excluded. That requires a fundamental shift away from the classic parts-pluslabour model toward tools, partnerships, software, and continuous training.

THE ECAV REVOLUTION: ELECTRIC, CONNECTED, AUTONOMOUS, AND (SOFTWAREDEFINED) VEHICLE

Now zoom out to the global market, because the shock is not theoretical. Europe is under real pressure. New-car demand has fallen from roughly 15 million units to about 12 million. German OEMs and suppliers are struggling. China now produces around one-third of the world’s vehicles, and European brands are losing market share there at alarming speed. If volumes do not recover, downsizing is inevitable. In the United States, Tesla remains the exception. Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia are holding up reasonably well. Many others are not. On electric vehicle profitability, I will be very direct: nobody makes money. Even the leaders face margin pressure, and in China we see brutal price wars. When manufacturers push exports aggressively, it is often not a sign of strength but a symptom of domestic overcapacity. My message is simple: winter is coming. Expect bankruptcies, consolidation, and hard decisions. One reason this is so difficult is the speed of technology. Planning cycles are slower than innovation cycles. Today’s 350-kilometer EV becomes 700 kilometers, then 800, in a very short time. Every year brings major leaps. If you wait for certainty, you will always be late. My advice is to buy,

INSIDERS - GROWTH FUNDAMENTALS & MARKET DYNAMICS

learn, and adjust quickly. Products go obsolete faster than strategies. This also requires a mindset change, and here China offers an uncomfortable lesson. Many Chinese players did not come from automotive at all. They came from batteries, consumer electronics, or software—and then moved aggressively into vehicles. In the West, we often spend years debating frameworks, standards, and risks while others simply ship. My advice is blunt: drop the arrogance. Copy what works. Move. This brings me to investment models. Too many companies still rely on classic corporate venture capital. I call this the supermarket model. You raise a fund, buy stakes in startups that are already mature and sitting on the shelf, and hope their valuation rises. You rarely influence the product, you have limited control, and you often pay a high entry price. I prefer a different approach: the Corporate Venture Squad. In this model, several established companies form a hands-on coalition with one or more startups to solve a specific, shared problem. It could be remote EV diagnostics. It could be ADAS calibration. Partners pilot together, co-design the minimum viable product, and ensure it works in real workshops. The solution is then licensed across the network, allowing it to scale quickly. Risk is lower because you are building what users need. Adoption is faster because customers are already embedded. And the technology stays aligned with aftermarket reality.

I used this approach earlier in my career, co-developing solutions with six or seven companies at once, and it works. This model fits the aftermarket particularly well because the hardest part is not invention. It is scale. Getting a solution into thousands of workshops is the real challenge. If network members already have usage rights, scale is built into the design, not added later as an afterthought. So where should we focus first? There are several concrete problem areas that are ready now. Remote and EV diagnostics, turning raw vehicle data into useful, billable insights. Camera and radar calibration that is reliable, standardized, and workshop-friendly. Battery intelligence, covering health monitoring, safety, and decisions about second life. Connectivity and vehicle-to-everything systems that link vehicles, workshops, and supply chains into a single flow. My final message is this: start with quick wins, but do not be afraid to back a few breakthrough bets. The revolution is already underway. The only real risk left is standing still while it passes you by. 

CHRISTINA JØRGENSEN CEO, Aftermarket

PARTNERSHIP: THE KEY TO GROWTH AND RESILIENCE IN DYNAMIC MARKETS In a market defined by change, growth depends on forming the right partnerships — those that turn complexity into opportunity and challenges into momentum. At Dinex, we see market dynamics not as disruption, but as energy, and resilience as the ability to turn that energy into forward movement. In this article, we explore five key aspects of a healthy Aftermarket partnership — geared toward mutual growth. No. 1: Simplifying Growth – One Supplier, Full Systems Simplifying the supply chain is one of the smartest ways to drive growth — fewer suppliers mean fewer costs and complexities. And with Dinex, customers can source complete emission systems from turbo to tailpipe in one place. No. 2: Empowering Growth – Knowledge, Support, and Training As technology advances and complexity intensifies, the Aftermarket often hesitates toward new independent spare parts. •••

No. 3: Connecting Growth – Smarter Digital Collaboration Lack of digital efficiency can be a true growth bottleneck. Easy data access, smooth and transparent ordering, and efficient collaboration are key. The Dinex Partner Portal delivers all that — with new features constantly added to make everyday work even easier.

No. 4: Agile Growth – Speed and Flexibility in Dynamic Markets Markets never evolve in a straight line, and without agility to follow their dynamics, growth opportunities are lost. With local warehouses, own production, market insight and deeply rooted “Customer First” approach, Dinex is ready to adapt to market and customer needs.

Comprehensive range of Bosch thermal management portfolio From engine cooling to air conditioning – needs-based Bosch vehicle solutions

Thermal management in modern vehicles is becoming increasingly complex. Bosch is responding to this development with decades of expertise and an expanded portfolio that offers the aftermarket a comprehensive range from a single source. The proven range of engine cooling products has been supplemented by the essential components of vehicle air conditioning. Thermal management: A system with multiple tasks A modern thermal management

system is crucial for the reliable operation of a vehicle by protecting components from thermal overload through optimal operating temperatures, contributing to efficient engine operation, and supporting a pleasant interior climate. Its main task

is to optimize the entire heat and cold balance. This ensures that all components operate within their optimum temperature range. At the same time, it ensures a pleasant climate in the vehicle interior. Managed by a control unit, components such as coolant pumps, valves, and fans ensure precise on-demand circulation of heat and cold. Bosch has a profound understanding of the entire system and already offers the aftermarket a wide range of electric coolant pumps, solenoid valves, and engine cooling fans.

Bosch – workshop partner for air conditioning components

New to the program: Comprehensive range for air conditioning systems For over 15 years, Bosch has been a competent partner for workshops with its wide range of fully automatic A/C service units and accessories for the maintenance of air conditioning systems in vehicles. To also support in the event of repairs, Bosch is now including the key components of modern vehicle air conditioning systems in its European-wide workshop program. Important role of thermal management in e-mobility The increasing electrification of mobility causes high demands on thermal management. In hybrid and electric vehicles, the coolant and air conditioning circuits merge into a highly complex overall system. This gives the refrigerant circuit an important additional function: previously used primarily for interior cooling, the refrigerant circuit will in future also be used to cool the powertrain components of hybrid and

electric vehicles. This keeps the battery, electric motor, and power electronics within the optimum temperature range to ensure reliable operation.

New Technology: Keep your eyes open when buying constant velocity drive shafts! Not all drive shafts are created equal. Not all deflection angles are the same. The technology for drive shafts and their CV joints has also evolved perceptibly since

current vehicles. This no longer meets the OE standard and results in altered handling that car owners are not used to. The surprise comes the next time they park,

the 1960s. What began with a deflection angle of 47° has now developed into an angle of more than 52° in standard equipment. That may not sound like much, but it makes a considerable difference in driving comfort and safety.

when the steering geometry has changed without warning after the repair. When ordering parts, workshops should ensure they avoid outdated joint technology with incorrect steering angles, even if the solution seems inexpensive. Information on this can often only be found in the description text!

Major impact on handling Not all aftermarket suppliers have kept up with the times and developed their drive shafts accordingly. Products with a low bending angle are still often offered – even for New ST/SX technology: maximum steering angle maintained.

The workshop is only on the safe side with the same technology that was installed at the factory! And that is guaranteed by GKN Automotive.

Old technology: significantly reduced steering angle.

Bag-in-box: – sustainably clever packaging New LIQUI MOLY container uses 90 percent less plastic than the classic 20-liter canister. The exterior of the new bag-in-box packaging consists of coated, waterproof cardboard. It contains a fully recyclable plastic bag, which uses 90 percent less plastic than a conventional 20-liter canister. Visible for garages: a significantly lower volume of waste in the garbage can or container. The bag-in-box cartons fit perfectly into LIQUI MOLY’s tried-and-tested oil cabinet. This means that you can continue to use your organization and storage systems from us and do not need any alternative equipment or storage concepts. Even before LIQUI MOLY fills the additional packaging variant, it has already demonstrated its sustainability credentials. Less CO₂ is produced as soon as the empty containers are delivered to production. The volume of the flat cartons and plastic bags is much smaller than that of plastic canisters, which optimizes logistics and protects the environment. Even when filled with oil, the new container scores points compared to the pure plastic canister when it comes to the space required on a pallet. With the bag-in-box packaging, workshops can rely on a futureproof solution that not only reduces operating costs but also protects the environment. Click for more information www.liqui-moly.com

MANN+HUMMEL as a pioneer: filtration meets machine learning MANN+HUMMEL sees the future of the aftermarket shaped by the potential of AI to handle complex data, enabling predictive insights and enhancing operational efficiency. Customer focus is at the core of the global filtration expert‘s transformation. Three main aspects drive this focus: convenience through a broad portfolio and customer-oriented solutions, reliability through strong operational standards, and competitiveness supported by digitalisation and artificial intelligence. With smartFE, MANN+HUMMEL has created an application for the AI-based development of filter elements. It combines the quantity of big data with the quality of smart data. We are convinced that AI will become a key technology for innovative filtration solutions. However, we also know that it is the people who make filter manufacturer MANN+HUMMEL a global leader in innovation – not the machines. Our engineers, sales and marketing experts at 80 locations worldwide are and remain our greatest asset. smartFE is designed to combine the knowledge and experience of our employees and support them. More power for our customers and partners smartFE gives us and our customers another valuable competitive advantage. That’s because with smartFE, we are even better than before. Intelligent algorithms transform numbers into measurable and usable insights, delivering high-quality data within seconds – based on input from our experts, analyzed by our experts. This enables us to continuously optimize our processes and develop pioneering filters with even higher performance and efficiency. Thanks to AI we can support our teams by using big data quickly, concisely and in an understandable way. All relevant information is now collected in advance, structured via data pipelines and then processed by smartFE. In this way, test results, field test data and simulation data complement each

Focus on the future

other to enable optimal machine learning. The result: the machines take over the automation work while our engineers can use the time profitably. With smartFE, we are closer to our customers than ever before. For a new customer, we were asked to develop a completely new filter application: only rough dimensions and performance requirements were known. The development process was highly dynamic and iterative. Close collaboration and regular consultations with the customer were essential. smartFE supports the development engineer in finding a design for the customer order. The engineer enters the dimensions of the design space in smartFE. The AI then provides him with an initial set of thousands of potential filter element designs: generated from the complete MANN+HUMMEL filter media portfolio and perfectly adapted to the available customer specifications. The engineer can now quickly sort through the potential designs, translate them into solutions based on his expertise, and make an initial design decision. In the background, smartFE automatically prepares all relevant data and visualizes performance indicators such as filtration efficiency and lifetime estimates in a precise and clear manner. Export functions provide curated data for the rest of

the value chain, for example for design experts or for communicating with the customer. If design changes are required, smartFE enables the engineer to quickly revise the design area and offer the customer a reliable alternative. This knowledge of pioneering filter quality, efficiency and performance also flows into the aftermarket products of the global filtration expert, which offers a comprehensive product range in OE quality under its premium brand MANN-FILTER. The portfolio in-

cludes air, oil and fuel filters for combustion engines and industrial applications, as well as filtration solutions for electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, and cabin filters to protect vehicle occupants. With smartFE, we will be able to respond more quickly to any challenges in the future and to develop solutions for new requirements. Because we want to continue offering our customers innovative MANN-FILTER products in OE quality with a broad performance portfolio in the future.

POWERFUL HELPERS FOR TOUGH JOBS: NEW TOOL BOXES FOR SUSPENSION AND STEERING REPAIRS Not only is Continental expanding the range of suspension and steering components for the aftermarket, they are also providing workshop professionals with the right equipment for the job: the new TOOL BOXES SUS01 and STE01 are designed to make the maintenance and replacement of these components far easier. TOOL BOX SUS01 for suspension components: two special tools for taking the hard work out of disassembly. The suspension parts mechanics deal with on a daily basis are often very dirty and difficult to access, so undoing them takes a lot of effort. However, the task is now much easier thanks to the new TOOL BOX SUS01. This contains two high-quality special tools: a ball joint puller with hydraulic assistance and a compact spreader tool. Both are tailored to the specific repair requirements with suspension jobs. › Hydraulic ball joint puller With a compression force of up to 12 metric tons, it is capable of separating tapered connections in a safe and controlled manner, making it ideal for ball joints and track rod ends – including in commercial vehicle and agricultural applications. The threaded adjuster ensures maximum flexibility. › Compact spreader tool This tool can be used to spread suspension strut and ball joint mounts from 5 to 11.5 mm – perfect for separating the strut from the steering knuckle. The innovative lead chamfer with rounded edges allows it to be inserted more easily into the steering knuckle. Used together with a ¼-inch square drive ratchet – while counter-holding with a 17-mm openended spanner – it allows the job to be performed with ease and without any risk of excessive loads. The viewing window is a particularly handy feature that shows the current spreading area at all times – even when space is tight.

TOOL BOX STE01 for track rods: replacement without removal of the steering gear Inner track rods or axial joints with a diameter of 30–43 mm can be replaced quickly and safely with the help of the new TOOL BOX STE01– directly at the vehicle, without having to remove the steering gear and with far less effort. The tool’s open design allows it to be easily attached, even when exterior parts of the joint are seized. The built-in eccentric wrench can be flexibly adjusted to different outer profiles (circular, flat, square or hexagonal) and ensures a secure grip with no slipping. Helpful instructions are included in the practical and robust case. Top tip: When replacing the track rod, always observe the torques and instructions specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Sustainability That Fuels Growth — How Webasto Is Driving Circularity Forward Sustainability has become a key future topic for the automotive industry. For Webasto, it means far more than developing energy-efficient products – it is a strategic principle shaping decisions across the company. “When we talk about sustainability, we’re not referring to individual projects, but to a mindset,” says Jörg Hornung, Vice President Aftermarket at Webasto. Sustainability is no longer just a compliance requirement – it is influencing growth fundamentals and future market dynamics. For Webasto, circularity and resource efficiency create competitive advantages: from cost-efficient production and long-lasting products to stronger customer loyalty and a more resilient supply chain. Responsibility by Design Webasto drives sustainability across all locations with a clear agenda. The company’s climate targets follow the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) framework and are firmly rooted in its strategy. Several production sites already generate electricity via on-site photovoltaic systems. At the Schierling plant, used Webasto standard batteries serve as stationary energy storage units to increase the share of self-generated solar power and reduce external energy use. By 2030, all Webasto sites worldwide are set to run exclusively on renewable energy. Sustainability also shapes product development. From the earliest design stage, Webasto identifies materials with a high CO₂ footprint and replaces them with more sustainable alternatives At Webasto, sustainability runs through every part of the company and plays a key role in every phase of product development. wherever possible. Product Carbon Footprints make the climate impact of individual components transparent – a key foundation for making each new product generation more compact, more efficient, and more resource-conscious. Circular Economy as a Guiding Principle The concept of the circular economy runs through Webasto’s development and production processes. The aim: return materials to the value cycle at the end of product life and minimize waste. “We follow the ‘10 Rs of the Circular Economy’ – from Refuse and Reduce to Reuse and Recycle,” Hornung explains. “This approach starts at the design stage and requires real change – not only within our company but across the entire supply chain.” This results in products designed for durability, repairability, and recyclability – such as parking heaters for passenger cars and efficient climate systems for motorhomes. For cooling applications, Webasto increasingly uses more environmentally friendly refrigerants such as R32, which has a significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) than conventional alternatives. New heating systems also operate with reduced partialload levels, lowering electricity and fuel consumption. A Promise for the Future Webasto remains committed to making mobility more efficient, comfortable, and sustainable with every new product generation – throughout the entire life cycle. “Circularity only works if everyone involved pulls in the same direction,” says Hornung. “That’s why we collaborate closely with customers, suppliers, and technology partners who take sustainability just as seriously as we do.” This approach shows that responsible action and business success are not contradictions – but drivers of each other.

Jörg Hornung, Vice President Aftermarket at Webasto, knows that sustainability and business success are not mutually exclusive.

GROWTH IN MOTION:

HOW KYB BUILDS ON STRONG FUNDAMENTALS In a changing market, KYB keeps its focus on what matters most: smarter technology, responsible manufacturing and real-world impact. For KYB, growth isn’t about chasing shortterm gains. It’s about building on the fundamentals that lead to lasting progress: innovation, adaptability, and responsibility. In an automotive industry defined by rapid change, KYB continues to evolve its technology, its manufacturing, and its mindset to meet new market dynamics head-on. This Kaizen approach is what has kept KYB at the forefront of hydraulic technology for over 90 years.

or sudden manoeuvres. But KYB’s innovation goes beyond the damper itself. Its complete IDC system, based on a Sky-hook body control concept, analyses both road and driver inputs to tune each actuator in real time. Drivers can personalise the experience through comfort, normal, or sport modes, balancing enjoyment with safety.

Smart, Sustainable Manufacturing Innovation doesn’t stop at the product. Predictive analytics, automation, and AI are reshaping the way KYB manufactures too.

Innovation That Drives Progress Sustainable growth depends on continuous product evolution, and KYB’s second generation Intelligent Damping Control (IDC), developed in conjunction with VW, shows how the company stays one step ahead. KYB’s IDC, a continuously variable damping shock absorber, has been fitted to multiple vehicle models across Europe and Japan for almost a decade. Its high-performance hydraulics and fast-acting electromagnetic system deliver excellent comfort and stability – whether during everyday driving

At KYB Advanced Manufacturing Spain (KAMS), the Twin-Zero artificial intelligence project set out to create a digital twin of a production line, with the goal of achieving zero anomalies, predictive maintenance, and complete traceability of both raw materials and finished goods. Running from 2022 to 2024, the initiative explored advanced sensory and visual data-capture

systems, aiming to make manufacturing more intelligent, efficient and sustainable. Environmental innovation continues at KYB Suspensions Europe (KYBSE), where the award-winning 4-Bar Initiative has cut energy use and CO₂ emissions by up to 29% without affecting performance. By reducing compressed-air pressure in production from 7 to 4 bar, KYB has shown that smart engineering can deliver sustainability gains without compromise. The project earned national recognition for sustainable productivity and positioned KYB as a role model across the Iberian Peninsula. Globally, KYB has also rolled out solar power systems across 12 production sites in seven countries, generating more than 13,000 MWh of renewable energy each year and preventing nearly 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. This global network of factories across the globe is key for KYB’s vision of local production for local consumption.

Cleaner Technology for the Future Sustainability extends to KYB’s products too. The company’s SustainaLub™ project has developed a hydraulic fluid made from naturally derived base oils rather than fossil fuels. Recyclable, carbonneutral, and biodegradable, it removes the environmental risks associated with petroleum-based fluids.

The product has already been extensively tested with OE partner and top-level motorsport, with the SustainaLub™ hydraulic fluid outperforming the traditional petroleum-based fluid. Full market release is planned for 2026, marking a significant step forward in eco-friendly suspension technology.

Global Reach, Local Focus With manufacturing and sales networks across the world, KYB champions local production for local markets. This approach reduces transport emissions, shortens lead times, and allows KYB to respond quickly to regional demand - all while maintaining consistent global quality standards. This approach is vital for KYB as we aim to work with our international partners in high growth emerging markets and ensure that we are able to offer the same industry leading service and support already enjoyed in established markets across the world.

Driving Progress Responsibly From advanced damping to intelligent manufacturing, KYB continues to strengthen the fundamentals of growth: innovation, adaptability, and sustainability. It’s a long-term commitment to progress – and a reflection of how KYB is helping to shape a smarter, cleaner future for mobility.
