In the dark our senses are wide open, we are more vulnerable and hyper-aroused, and so whatever happens to us there will stay with us. Initiations in the dark are initiations of the soul.” ― Lucy H. Pearce, Burning Woman I was always afraid of the dark when I was younger but, in the same breath, craved it. The polarizing feelings would always intrigue me. Now, as a Mother of three and a Womb Worker, I can understand why. The Womb is dark, it’s your first place of existence- it’s a safe space. It’s your home until you learn that it can be scary or that “dangerous things” happen within the void. You do not associate it with fear.

You associate it with comfort, safety, and love.

Maybe that is why Womb Light® channeled through me after my second son was born in 2020. To shine a light on the beauty of the darkness, to ignite the light within me to dig deeper into this space of creation, this space of nourishment, and this space of power. The portals I have been guided through began with the light but only have since become much darker- in the most incredible ways.

As women, we experience duality in almost every aspect of our lives. Our cycle and infradian rhythms dance with darkness and light every 28 days. Our ancestors bled with the dark moon because it was safe to do so. So why today, with all this knowledge, do we still lean only towards the light? Why is spiritual culture solely focused on love and light when we can also master love and dark? It makes “love and light” fall into the category of patriarchal programming. And more women are realizing this truth for themselves. Uncovering the lies and omissions that were given to us in the light. Once we arrive on Earthside, we no longer had our safe space within the shadows of our mother’s womb. We were exposed in the light, judged in the light, and oppressed in the light.

Memoirs of a Deity A Selection from the Essays of I.A.M. (Ijtihad Aaqil Muhammad) "I decided to start speaking up. Doing some day-to-day channeling during this 7-Day Chakra Fast. There are a few things I would like to talk about that don’t have anything to do with my usual per se. But, being an artist is just one facet of myself. I’m not going to put myself in a box, especially with the things that I feel a need to speak on. I trust myself to do my thing. There’s a lot out here that I feel my ways about.

Today is the third-eye day of this chakra cleanse, and this is what is coming through."

I am currently part of a spiritual group. We meet weekly. We talk about our weeks, but we also tap into different states of presence and help each other grow spiritually. Individually, we do what we have to do. I can’t help anyone grow and they can’t help me grow if I’m not willing to do the work on my own.

I guess we just promote the importance of moving forward in our evolution by just speaking, reflecting, and learning. I advise anyone on their journey not to shy away from your like-minds once you start to meet them. They need you and you need them. You’re going to come across people that, if you welcome them into your life, will really mirror your consciousness. It’s not an end-all-solve-all to your path but it’s a great part of it to be able to connect with the moment and expand with people who understand you. It helps you feel at ease when your journey gets lonely at times. It’s important to understand that you’re not alone and simply welcome those who are there to reflect with you and be with you on this journey with open arms.

I’m doing a 7-day fast where each day represents one of the seven chakras, starting with the Root and going all the way up. Each day, we select different foods that go with each chakra and even wear the colors that represent each center. I’m not wearing indigo today, but I have my Lapis Lazuli crystal around my neck. You also want to connect with the energy of each chakra. Ask yourself questions that get the juices flowing and chemicals bubbling for each chakra, so you can get in alignment.

Today is centered around the third eye. I’ve been doing my best to stay present. The benefit of staying present, especially on your third eye, stretches as far as seeing through illusions, strengthening your intuition, trusting your inner knowing, and cultivating a deeper understanding that there is more to what you see, hear and experience than you know. My third eye initiation feels like reclaiming my power and awareness of choices. If you’re not paying attention or if your third eye is clouded, you’ll miss opportunities just like that. Do not subscribe to patterns and energies that sabotage your growth.

y getting a look at things from a heightened point of view, you start to see more clearly. For example, as a music-based artist, being invited to a social gathering after months of solitude allowed me to practice what I preach and test where I’m at. Even though I’ve been in hermit mode, I knew this was warranted and I would eventually be able to bring my new energy and teachings to the world that needed it. One of the benefits of my fast was becoming acutely aware of the state of the entertainment world, and just seeing what was now so evident I couldn’t ignore. I couldn’t turn down my inner knowing anymore and it stirred up a lot of conversation.

PURIFIED REVELATIONS We have a lot of entertainers that are conscious but still trapped within paradigms that steal their health and energy. The entertainment industry is one of the pillars of our social matrix. Things like alcohol, drugs, lowvibrational music, and lifestyles do slow down the speed of your awakening process. Hollywood plays a vital role in which side of health you sit on. And, it's time to take radical responsibility for our lives and spiritual health.

The truth is so massive at this point, and the importance of your health, your wellness, and your sovereignty cannot be ignored. Health can’t be negated. Certain diseases can be healed and illnesses can be alchemized.

With every conscious decision we take toward our health and power, we may see a manipulation of the truth. I have seen many pseudo-awakened entertainers speak about certain concepts within spirit and lifeforce. For someone who isn’t awakened and doesn’t know the value of their choices and substances, subtle influences can cloud their inner "knowing” from being activated.

When you feed your mind, body, and soul what it needs to fully come online, the channel in which your oracle transfers information will be true and clear.

My Spiritual Journey with Plant Medicine: Cannabis.

Is anyone else trading in their glass of pinot noir for a joint of Indica these days? Scroll through your social media channel of choice and you will notice a growing collective of accounts committed to promoting plant medicine over alcohol… Or, maybe my algorithm just knows what I’m into lately.

Cannabis use has boomed throughout the pandemic for many reasons including legalization, accessibility, and the desire to continue exploring unique health and wellness options. I can shop for weed on my phone, have it delivered to my house, and have a relaxing night - sans hangover. It’s easy, it’s convenient, and it’s damn good.

Growing up in the 90s, I was told drugs were bad and medical marijuana was one of those drugs. It would fry your brain. You would be labeled a “stoner.” I was told that people who smoke weed become lazy AF. I remember telling my high-school boyfriend I would break up with him if I found out he “smoked up” (we did break up, but for other reasons).

Fast forward a few years, I moved to Australia and met a new group of friends who handed me an education and a new outlook on the power of pot. It could heal you. It did heal me. And I’m not the first person to have this aha moment. Cannabis has been used for thousands of years across mother earth for improving well-being. Its notable effects include relaxation, reduced anxiety and inflammation, and, straight-up, fun times.

Through many years of exploring various strains and methods of consumption, and learning to honor my tolerance, I learned to use cannabis to get into a deeply meditative space.

In meditation, I discovered the ability to focus on something difficult like trauma or a bad energetic experience and more easily make peace with it. It’s like I was able to give a much-needed hug to a painful part of my past and move forward. It was magical.

Freeing. The ultimate release. I was left with a feeling that no therapy session or chat with a friend could give me. Simply put, I felt lighter.

And I wanted to share this feeling with others who needed it. But I wasn’t sure how. Truth be told, I’m still figuring it out. I am just starting to dip my feet into this corner of the wellness industry. I started being more open about my vision to help others, which felt very vulnerable (cue imposter syndrome!) But with a couple of puffs and some deliberate deep breaths, I’ve meditated on my vision, and I know it is this: To create a safe space to guide people to a deep state of relaxation and release buried negative energy using the medicinal properties of this herbal plant.

Every time I timidly explained my calling to someone, I got a supportive response. People were curious to learn more.

They wanted to feel more connected to themselves. More spiritual. They tried to do the work but didn’t know how or couldn’t do it in their own space. So I created one in the form of a home studio.

Through guided meditations, breathwork, visualization exercises, sound therapy, massage, aromatherapy, and crystals, each session is uniquely based on the individual(s). Operating on a pay-what-you-feel model, you won’t find me on a branded social media page – my journey isn’t about that. But damn, my photographer did a great job capturing these shots for the story!

I wonder how this spiritual endeavor will evolve for me. Will my vision continue to resonate with others? Do I genuinely have a gift to share? Can I really help people heal themselves? All signs point to yes on my magic 8-Ball. At the very least, I can say I’m exploring a new part of myself, growing as a human, connecting with other like-minded people, and creating a dreamy studio space available for whoever feels called to it.

And to think it all started with a little green leaf...

Trauma.

A word we are becoming all too familiar with as it is a frequent topic of conversation.

From bullying to sexual, verbal, and physical abuse, PTSD, and everything in between, trauma can come in many forms and is different for everyone. No one’s trauma is inferior to another’s.

Everyone handles, processes, and works through their traumatic experiences in their own way. Whether it is fully digested or not, most people on the planet have experienced some sort of trauma in their life. Even an overload of stress can create a trauma response in the body.

Chakras, known as energy centers in our body, are points where trauma and the emotional force associated with the trauma get trapped. We have major and minor Chakras throughout the body, I typically see trauma stored in the lower 3 Chakras, The Root, The Sacral, and the Solar Plexus. The trauma stored in the Chakras creates lower vibrational emotions such as depression, fear, shame, anger, and guilt. In my healing practice, I use Reiki along with metaphysical anatomy and my intuitive gifts to guide me to areas of the body that may be harboring these emotions.

When traumatic experiences and the emotions associated with the trauma(s) are not processed, released, or healed, the emotions fester and create ailments in the body, and worse case, disease. I have countless clients that have seen numerous doctors and specialists in pursuit of a cure. When they do not receive answers or a diagnosis, they become frustrated and begin to seek other avenues. This is when they reach out. I am certainly not discounting western medicine and fully believe it has its place, but I think it is important for us to understand why ailments and diseases initiate in the body, especially when there is no family history.

Trauma is stored in our subconscious, which operates 95% of the brain and how we react, (yes, only 5% of the brain is the conscious part where we are fully aware). Understanding every move we make, every blink of our eyes, and every thought we have makes an imprint on our mind/body and thereby stored trauma wreaks havoc on our overall well-being when not healed. This is why it is essential to work with those who specialize in trauma. Reiki is a wonderful healing modality to use in conjunction with therapy. I have witnessed clients have a breakthrough with their therapist after receiving multiple Reiki sessions. Reiki has been transformational for my healing journey. It allowed me to see what I needed to process, let go of, and heal. I am now showing up as my true, authentic self and the best version of myself. I know Reiki has been a massive part of that and I am excited to see what Reiki can do for you too."

how does Reiki work?

I am simply a channel for the Reiki energy to flow through me to the client. Sometimes clients see shapes, colors, and images.

Reiki allows them to fully relax to an almost hypnotic state. As a result, I have had clients share their traumatic experiences during the session and recall moments they didn’t remember as it was stored in their subconscious.

I hold sacred space and allow the Reiki to flow as each client processes whatever comes up. At times, tears are shed. Their bodies may involuntarily move, and they may express words they would normally internalize. Every session is completely different, and the client understands that whatever is meant to come up during that time... will.

Reiki is non-denominational and can be practiced and received by all. Reiki is loving, powerful, and supportive healing energy. I let it lead the session and bring forth what needs to take place in the moment. I also give my clients tools to implement outside of our sessions such as the importance of meditation, yoga, grounding, and how to protect and cleanse their energy.

How to identify where trauma is stored in your body.

My best recommendation is meditation. If you’re new to meditation or don’t know how to meditate, remember the simple truth that meditation is about being present.

Begin by sitting in a comfortable position or lying down. Close your eyes and focus on each inhale and exhale. Begin visualizing an energetic map of your body and guide your breath along the map. And, use all of your senses to bring forth what you need to acknowledge. What do you see, hear, taste, smell, or feel? You may see an actual color or image in your body, or maybe feel like your breath is stuck somewhere or it feels like a knot is in your stomach. Be aware of anything that is brought to your attention and take time afterward to journal your experience. This will be helpful to share with your therapist and Reiki Practitioner. Once we slow down and welcome stillness, we connect back to our bodies. Our body is constantly communicating with us. It’s up to us to listen.

The 3 biggest lessons that shaped my wellness journey.

Wellness is the new standard you probably didn’t even know you needed. Especially as you navigate motherhood, everyday life, and simply being human in your post-pandemic reality. As a Wellness Coach, it is my passion to help busy, burnt-out women navigate their hectic lives feeling empowered AF with healthy habits so they can thrive instead of barely surviving.

So what is wellness anyway?

When it comes to your health ‘wellness’ can seem so broad. So let’s narrow it down.

Merriam-Webster defines it as: “The quality or state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal.”

Sounds simple, right? Let’s dive a little deeper and explore what wellness looks like in practical terms in your hectic world. But, first, let me share my story.

As you’ve probably experienced yourself, burning out has become so incredibly insidious. I clearly remember burning out for the first time at the age of 24. Working 7 days a week, pushing my body to its limits, and rarely taking the time and space to recover. I woke up one morning in shock. The insides of my mouth were covered in giant canker sores. I felt completely drained and mentally overwhelmed. And what I vividly remember the most was that feeling of fear. Fear of not being in control over my body. Helpless and insecure I heard that little voice inside my head that quietly spoke up loud enough that I was ready to listen.

The cycle itself keeps you perpetually going through the motions of your life on autopilot completely disconnected from your body. Dr. Lotte Dyrbye, a physician-scientist who studies burnout at the Mayo Clinic, states burnout is not considered a medical condition. However, whether at work or in your everyday life, the symptoms are so often easy to dismiss. Burnout can look and feel like several things simultaneously including, but not limited to, exhaustion, low libido, headaches, frustration, cynicism, irritability, instant anger, insomnia, depression, and changes in eating habits. Ever go grocery shopping while you’re burning out, hangry, menstruating, with screaming kids, after a full day of soul-sucking work only to come home having to figure out what the heck you’re making for dinner?

How often do you hear that voice inside your head?

And when you do hear it what does it say? How do you respond? Do you even acknowledge it? Or is your pattern to ignore what it’s saying, push through with your blinders on, and suffer in silence praying for the weekend so you can collapse on the couch? Life happens fast. And if you’re not slowing down enough to pay attention to that voice in your head, that feeling in your gut, or those symptoms of imbalance that keep popping up, your body will only be able to handle so much before it starts to shut down. If you’ve ever experienced burnout firsthand you’re in great company.

The same goes if you’re sensing that your time is coming, you’re burning both ends of the candle, and you’re working extremely hard just to keep it together and push through. Let’s be real. Life pulls us in so many directions, with so much responsibility on our shoulders, and so little time to make it through the day. What’s worse is that in the little “free” time you do have you often find yourself overly exhausted and just playing catch up.

My second experience with burning out came exactly 10 years later at the age of 34. At this point in my life, I was a mom to our 2 beautiful kids who were 4 and 1. I worked full time in my “dream job” that I loved but gave all my attention to while simultaneously starting to build a business, which I knew nothing about, on the side. Life was hectic. It was full. And I can’t even begin to count how many mornings I woke up feeling anxious with sweaty armpits already stressed about getting the kids to daycare and myself to work on time. I was constantly in a bad mood, everything stressed me out, my limiting beliefs around scarcity and not having any time were screaming loud and clear, and I barely made it through each day. My own self-care wasn’t even on my list of priorities so like so many other women I know I put everything and everyone before me. This was after I decided to build a better life for myself and my family.

Pay attention.

Pay attention to those quiet whispers. Do you know the signs and symptoms of imbalance in your mind and body? It could possibly show up as pain or stubborn injuries that don’t seem to go away.

Tune into you.

I am giving you permission to prioritize your own self-care. If you are in the mindset of thinking your own self-care is selfish, consider this. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Your loved ones around you depend on you showing up as your healthiest self. Taking some time every day to lean into your wellness is part of navigating burnout. Surround yourself with positive energy. Listen to podcasts and read personal development books. And say NO to responsibilities that don’t align with you.

Show up.

Avoid mindlessly scrolling on social media. Give yourself clear time limits for how you spend your time online. Stop consuming toxic news that leaves you feeling even more drained and disempowered. Create zero tolerance for surrounding yourself with people who gossip. You know these things. It's time to commit. Start each day with gratitude. Level up your whole foods and nutrition. Invest in quality probiotics and vitamins because so much of your overall health starts in your gut. Get moving in a way that makes you feel good. Take time every day to get outside and connect with nature. Do more things that make you happy.

The amazing news is that even if you’re deep in burnout and experiencing struggles you never thought imaginable there is still so much you can be grateful for and take control over. And starting at the level of your mindset is powerful beyond measure.

And just like that, we’ve come full circle. We’re ending our conversation on burnout focused on what wellness looks, feels, and sounds like within the landscape of your motherhood; while building your career, with other humans who depend on you, and while radically taking up space for you to just be no matter the demands of everyday life.

Sober Curious – A Multidimensional Lifestyle I used to think sober people were boring. Like, what kind of life is it if you’re not having “fun.” That was my limited thinking; “The only way to have fun was with a drink or a substance in hand.” It’s what I did and what most of society does. It’s how we socialize, network, celebrate, and deal with the craziness of life,... and, well, I’ve had my fair share of drama. Ironically, most of the melancholy could have been avoided if only I quit drinking. But, I never considered myself an alcoholic, so “did I really have a “problem?”

The short answer is: YES, girl. I did. Alcohol and I had a very toxic relationship…

I had proof I could quit because I did it several times. The longest I went without drinking was six months in 2011 when I was first dating my now husband. I decided to quit to salvage this blossoming relationship and I only started again because of severe F.O.M.O. Giving in to temptation at a wedding in 2012 opened Pandora’s box and I continued to drink for the next 7 years. But… there was always this whisper, my intuition, my Higher Self asking me to quit.

Truth be told, I was terrified… so, I became what I now branded “sober-curious.” I started following sober accounts on Instagram and would take mini breaks from drinking for two weeks to a month at a time. Always coming back to the same old shame, guilt, and frustration that alcohol caused. I won’t bore you with the broken record conversations I had with God, girlfriends, and my husband. I was looking for someone to give me some tough love, to be compassionate, and set me straight. To tell me… and actually, SHOW me there was a better way.

After a conversation with a dear friend, I realized my integrity was shit. I was making promises to myself, to God, and to my future, and never keeping my word. No selftrust, no connection to Spirit, and everything in my life was starting to feel it. With alcohol, I had a mediocre existence, at best. So, I decided to make one more promise, a POWER PROMISE! An intention to honor my word all the way through. My Power Promise - an unbreakable agreement with myself, for myself, and no one else. And on June 12, 2019, I quit…or actually started... I started living.

Substances, no matter how psychedelic and enlightening they can be, ultimately disconnect you from the raw truth of your spirit.

This journey has been more than what I expected. It has cracked me open. It has dissolved any illusions of whom I thought I was and who I felt I needed to be in order to fully love myself and be loved in return. What I’ve embodied on this 3+ year adventure brings me to my knees.

MIND

Sobriety is your superpower!

And... if we aren't growing, we remain stuck, stagnate, and nothing changes. Mindfulness is the practice of becoming aware of what is no longer serving you. It takes courage to act in a new way, to change patterns and habits. And this leads to the dismantling of stories you’ve long held onto as truths. It allows you to be a loving observer so you can develop compassion and understanding for yourself and others while they transform their sobriety. To forgive and extend grace for your past and be grateful for the lessons.

It’s a multidimensional lifestyle that elevates your mind, connects you to your spirit, heals your body, and raises your energetic frequency. Being sober requires all of you; Mind, Body, Spirit, and Energy. It requires your commitment and your moment-to-moment intention.

But, good news! Your spirit is already on board, or you wouldn’t be reading this now. Now the rest of you gets to catch up. Let’s break it down!

Sobriety is the conscious application of your mindfulness.

Each day you choose to recommit, you are making a different choice than your past self would have.

Mindfulness leads to growth.

BODY Sobriety requires getting in tune with your body. Recognizing how alcohol has affected you both internally and externally.

This can look like extra weight, bloating, liver disease, exhaustion, foggy brain, stress, anxiety, overwhelm, confusion, rashes, or blocked communication between your body and mind. Every time you consume a substance unnatural to your body, you’re literally ingesting a foreign “poison” and showering your vital organs with low-vibration chemicals and energies.

Your body is your home for this life and it is the only one you get in this lifetime! Think of your body as the template that houses your desires, creations, and cosmic manifestations. For me, alcohol was a major crack in that foundation. A leak so large it could have annihilated everything I built! It’s your responsibility to honor, cherish, love, and nurture this divine vessel and fix the cracks in your foundation. Take inventory of these leaks in your field, your energy, and your habits. You can repair the damage by removing what isn’t serving you.

SPIRIT Sobriety is one of the most spiritual initiations and blissful experiences! I think when it all comes down to it, addiction can stem from not believing or feeling worthy of how good life can get once you eliminate your vice. You strip away all the noise, negativity, and interference that addiction and substance infiltrate into your life. Sobriety forces you to look at your shadows and old stories and clean your house of heaven. Substances, no matter how psychedelic and enlightening they can be, ultimately disconnect you from the raw truth of your spirit.

According to one passage I found… “Alcohol comes from the Arabic word ‘al-kuhl’ which means ‘BODY EATING SPIRIT’, and why it’s referred to as “Spirits.” Plain and simple, alcohol is a lower vibrational entity. When you consume alcohol, Your spirit leaves its home because it no longer feels safe in your body and because we know that like attracts like… what do you think drinking is attracting back to you? No wonder it can feel like your dreams are taking forever to manifest. To create success in your life and business… you must be in sync with your spirit and create safety and harmony in your body.

ENERGY Substances of any kind amplify your emotional state and alter your chemical balance. What sources of nutrients or chemicals you put in your body will influence the way it communicates with you and not just while you’re drinking, but for days to follow. It takes time to alleviate and cleanse the effects of any substance you put in your body. Your emotions are how you know when you’re off track or living in alignment. If you haven’t done the inner work of healing those unwanted suppressed emotions, they will quickly surface when a reactive substance is introduced, and probably not in the most conscious ways.

Detoxing your body will reveal these emotions in a controlled way. This is something to CELEBRATE! Once you are aware of what’s been lurking in the shadows, you can transcend and transmute this low-frequency energy. Illuminate your shadows and send them love! After all…that’s all they are looking for…, especially addictions.

Bonus: You create space for the high-vibe people, experiences, and opportunities that will elevate your life when lowvibrational substances are no longer ruling your life.

Allow sobriety to be an experience that transcends you.

This may be difficult to hear but worth sharing… your life will change. You may lose friends who cannot give up a certain lifestyle or feel disconnected from the things that you have gotten used to. You may find others resisting your decision and trying to get you involved. But when we get sober, we become a HUGE mirror for others and that can often trigger people into over-indulging or getting inspired. You must be more committed to yourself than ever before! Lead the way for yourself first. And know this: it gets BETTER. I promise. Partying, drugs, and alcohol are so glamorized in our global society and they are perpetrated everywhere for everything. When we make the life-long decision to walk this path, it’s easy to look around and wonder how difficult it will be.

But here’s a reminder: You weren’t created to FIT IN! Staying in integrity with yourself is the BEST GIFT. Choosing to honor yourself and see this sober journey as a gateway to your higher self will allow more doors to open for you. It’s a spiritual journey, friend, and we all know that these types of adventures are anything but linear. There will be lows and many highs, but they will be all-natural highs. Sobriety allows you to experience it all which is THE GIFT OF BEING ALIVE! The great moments are more vibrant and you’re able to navigate the harder times with clarity and compassion. Your true essence is revealed over time and your path becomes clearer, just like your mind, body, soul, and eventually, life will. Sobriety allows you to tap into the magic and limitlessness that you already ARE. Being sober lifts the veil!

OPENING YOUR MIND TO ENERGY HEALING. Energy healing literally changed my life! It raised my vibration and my consciousness. It gave me the power to transcend victim consciousness.

It gave me the strength in finding my own self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-respect. It empowered me because it taught me to empower myself. So how does energy healing actually do this? First, I want you to remember a very important formula: trauma + conditioning – emotions = energy disruption.

Now, we ARE energetic beings and everything IS energy. Scientists have proven this to be true and this article is not about proving this fact. To give you an interesting idea, imagine an invisible energy body surrounding your physical body; to many, this is known as an aura. In this energy body are layers. Each layer has different functions and is associated with a different chakra, the seven main energy centers or ‘wheels’ of the energy body. Each chakra and layer both influence areas of the physical body and the other energy bodies. Chakras and acupuncture points are openings for energy to flow into and out of the aura (energy body).

This energy is associated with a form of consciousness; therefore, we experience the exchange of energy in the forms of seeing, hearing, feeling, sensing, intuiting, or direct knowing (also known as the ‘Clair’ senses.)

Hoping I haven’t made your brain fart, it is important to understand this when learning about energy healing. Opening the energy centers and increasing our energy flow is key for steady movement in our lives. The more energy we let flow, the healthier we are.

Illness in the system is caused by an imbalance of energy or a blocking of the flow of energy. In other words, a lack of flow in the human energy system eventually leads to disease. It also distorts our perceptions and dampens our feelings and therefore interferes with the experience of living a joyful life.

While traditional medicine has its place (and I truly believe science has achieved incredible breakthroughs) there is also a place for energetic and holistic care. Many would say when they go to their doctor for an issue, they end up receiving a band-aid solution; only using medications to address an issue yet not resolving or reversing the underlying problem. However, if more people were open to a holistic approach, they would find answers and relief through alternative treatments possibly more than they ever find with traditional medicine. There are many options for energy healing, but the most commonly known are Reiki, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), and Hypnotherapy.

If you are suffering from an ailment and find that traditional methods of care are not working, why not try something a bit different? Sometimes allowing yourself to open up and try something new is just what you need to change your life. If you are new to energy healing and wondering exactly what it’s all about, it’s actually quite interesting. This type of treatment is based on the belief there is energy running through the body. Picture this, the human body as an electrical circuit. Just as electricity runs through a circuit, energetic currents run through the body. If there is a blockage, this causes problems in the body as well as in the electrical circuit. When these blockages or crossed wires occur, a whole host of problems can happen. If you just put a band-aid on them, they will continue to get worse over time. Energy healing works exceptionally well because many of the techniques can identify underlying problems in the body, instead of just treating the symptoms as traditional medication often does. When you can identify the underlying problems, you are able to create a treatment plan and vigorously address the problems in a straightforward manner. The result is achieving health and happiness through personalized treatment. What is wonderful about energy healing is that most people can learn it quite easily and apply it to their lives in very little time, meaning a more balanced life in the short term, as well as the long term.

What causes an imbalance or block in the flow of energy?

So glad you asked! Here’s where that formula I told you to remember comes into context (trauma + conditioning – emotions = energy disruption).

The majority of people today have been conditioned to react to unpleasant experiences by blocking their feelings and emotions which stops a great deal of natural energy flow. For example, a person is rejected many times when she tries to show her love to another, and she eventually stops showing her love by trying to stop the inner feelings of love. In order to do this, she will unknowingly stop the energy flow through the heart chakra. When the energy flow is stopped or slowed down, the development of the heart chakra is affected.

Express your Emotions to Move Energy.

Another example would be when a person feels uncomfortable showing his emotions because they didn’t know how to address emotional trauma at home throughout his childhood, therefore he wasn’t given the chance to express his emotions and heal them. They ‘shut off' the internal button for feeling emotions and have a bruised inner child or solar plexus chakra. They don’t want to feel or witness the pain of others and find it uncomfortable to share their own pain.

Eventually, in both these scenarios, a physical problem will very likely result if the energy does not start to flow smoothly again. This same process works for all the chakras. Whenever a person blocks whatever experiences they’re having, they in turn block their chakras, which promote the flow of universal life force energy while also creating imprints to the subconscious mind.

Disrupted, weakened, blocked or imbalances in your energy body can all be caused by many situations occurring in our lives, such as emotional or physical trauma, injury, negative self-talk or social toxicity, nutritional depletion, destructive lifestyle, and relationships, neglect of self and lack of love for oneself or others, cultural conditioning and/or childhood traumas. Difficulties are inevitable in life, for each one of us, and we each develop a unique coping strategy. If these difficulties persist, these coping strategies can become chronic patterns, anchored in the body and the subconscious mind as defense structures. It is important to recognize the blocks we carry, and find and understand their source to then heal them.

At the age of eighteen, I flew to Costa Rica after deciding to end my long-term relationship, and in the middle of my busy work schedule as a fitness coach and yoga teacher, I built an online brand and started a shiny full-time career with Lululemon. Sounds crazy right? I highly suggest it.

I found Soul Work on Instagram and reached out to the founder of the global tribe of soul seekers and healers. She got back to me right away at a time my account was still known as @laylatheteenyogi, but I loved her mission and I was beginning to re-awaken another level of my own profound mysticism. The Soul Work documentary brought me to tears, it was about the global and existential crisis of being disconnected from nature, our innate selves, and our spirituality.

While traveling hours into the jungle from the airport, I was surely nervous. But, I turned that nervousness into excitement. I did not know anyone and I was definitely the youngest one there. I had never traveled alone before so I was immersed in everything I saw, tasted, and heard. One of the first exercises at this traumainformed yoga teacher training was an eye-gazing exercise. I barely knew anyone’s name but it did not matter, I saw them and they saw me. My goal was to reach everyone in the room and truly SEE them, no speaking, with my eye contact and the pure recognition that she is me and in all of us, there remains a WE. We opened up about what we saw in each other. We saw strength, we saw fierceness, we saw passion, we recognized the individuality of the soul in front of us and, in that, we had seen ourselves in one another.

A memory that stuck with me was when we sat in a sacred circle together and each person shared how they experienced trauma in their lives. We had a safe space to unleash what triggered us deeply and unravelled our transgenerational trauma. We were all from completely diverse backgrounds but had shared remarkably similar yet hidden pain. I had felt a duty to heal the wounds of my ancestors who had survived wars, poverty, and racism. These triggers are called "samskaras" in the yoga tradition, the thorns that get pushed when past pain comes for our hearts.

I felt the calling to teach and serve our younger generation since I was twelve years young. I started teaching kids classes at around thirteen and found it remarkable how these kids of all ages had such depth of emotion and wisdom. I taught them meditation, breathwork, yoga, and even mindfulness through conscious artwork. They, too, taught me how to play, how to laugh, and how to tend to my inner child. This was the catalyst for becoming a yoga teacher. At seventeen, my mom told me it would be good for me to pursue it.

The truth is, my own youthful shadow led me to the light. I did not have this stereotypical moment with God or sunshine or butterflies; I was not already peaceful, I was not grounded or rooted in wellness, I was lost. It was when I was dabbling with therapy and self-medication that yoga found me. At that time in my life, if I worked out it was because I did not like my body and if I felt stressed I was looking for a vice. I was depressed and unable to find joy in anything. I constantly compared myself to others and truly did not know who I was. We first read the Bhagavad Gita, which some people refer to as a bible, but it is not, it is a playbook for life and spirituality. It was not the downward dog, or headstands that revived me (although I do have a mean headstand and crow pose now) it was this one word: Dharma. In Hinduism, it means an individual’s duty, the basic principles of cosmic or divine existence. The conformity of one’s duty to nature. Now I get to teach others to become yoga teachers at a fantastic women’s yoga studio. I can encourage them to pursue their dharma which is what I call a “full moon moment.” It’s when everything just comes together full circle!

How often do we conform to everything but our own true nature, our true calling, our mission, and our purpose? I felt purposeless in the past but found myself while leading others. Teaching yoga opened the doors to my YouTube channel: LaylaTheYogi, where I wanted to offer mental health and healing advocates to those who had no access to it during the past two and a half years. I had feedback from people of all ages and stages who hit rock bottom during that time.

I was working at Lululemon as a top sales representative for a new acquisition by the company, and throughout all of that on top of coaching fitness, I lost myself and my yoga, again. This was until I met Patti, the founder of Healing Through Om. She asked me if I wanted to co-facilitate a Women’s Empowerment retreat. I curated and facilitated my first workshop with these women, many of whom spent their whole lives serving others, their families, youth, etc., and needed this time and space.

The theme of the workshop was IN-sourcing pleasure.

We often outsource pleasure to a person, thing, addiction, or vice but we never turn inwards to unlock our sensuality, joy, and playfulness. We mindfully ate cacao, a grounding and awakening substance, facilitated sound healing, meditation, and intuitive movement which honors and liberates the body instead of punishing it or judging it. We also had sacred discussions on the feminine wounds and the practices to use to experience more pleasure within each chakra and our nervous systems.

The quote that I had channeled for the end of the workshop was: “If you asked me how much this world was worth, I would tell you it's worth what you love. If you asked me how much I was worth, I’d tell you I'm worthy of love.”

If that resonated deeply, I published my book, which is divinely me but in paper form, with Sarah Elle, the editor of Next Level Psychic magazine, and her publishing team. My book is called Roses and Sage: Therapy for the Modern Soul. It is the wisdom I have gained through pursuing my dharma, but in short, a capsule of my honey-sweet words. It has eighty-nine pages of floral beauty that are there to empower you to unlock your purpose, meditate, cry, and laugh while you relate to it all! Each page is made for the romantic-aesthetic lover in us.

It really puts into perspective how we value external parts of ourselves, the superficial self, or the “lowercase” S-self as I had once learned it to be called. As opposed to our organic, unsugar coated Self.

I recently manifested working with Ethereal, a new spiritual center in the heart of my home of Ontario. It is the most beautiful pink, crystal oasis!

Each crystal and piece featured in the store from the floors to the corners is intentionally picked to serve a healing purpose, and did I mention it is all pink? Besides the stunning aesthetics and the largest Amethyst collection I have seen, the owner, Elizabeth, has inspired another dimension to my Dharma.

Worth is not your net worth, it is YOU! It is the unique and even darker parts of you that cannot be replicated that are inherent of excellent value.

The mission of Ethereal is to uplift our youth and create a future of healing, light, and love, which is much more aligned with my vision. There are many beautiful events, and sister workshops to be shared and I am excited to offer my energy to this shared mission.

Yoga and writing have been divine extensions of my dharma. I started as a fitness coach and even became a kickboxing trainer at seventeen years old. I loved the guidance I could offer others when I was offered such opportunities to lead. You would never think a yogi would tell people to get angry and hit harder… Well, here I am, and the truth remains that healing is not always comfortable, and it can be one of the most challenging feats you will have to conquer. We all are healing from something In one way or another, we are all healing from something. Whether it is an addiction, a broken bone, or a relationship - The one thing that all recoveries have in common is the fact that it is a process. We all have our own ways of grieving and coming to terms with what is going on around us.

As a psychic medium and a social worker, I have a lot of people who come into my world who feel like the process is too daunting to work through. That’s what keeps people away from the thing they really desire - not believing that they can do the work to get there. I wanted to share a few viewpoints for you to ground into. These are some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned personally and also share with individuals who are on a road of discovery, recovery and learning to trust the process.

Temporary Solutions and Skipping Steps to Get Ahead Won’t Lead You to a Full Recovery. No Matter How Badly We Want to Recover Overnight. Going Through the Process and the Journey is Just as Important as the End Goal.

We Always Learn Something, and Nothing is Ever a Loss.

Everything you feel is valid; the first stop on the road to healing is accepting that there is something to heal. When you can meet yourself with a deeper level of acceptance, your world can shift.

Baby steps; be gentle with yourself on the days you need to be.

No one expects you to be a superhero. There is NO timeframe for healing. We all adjust differently to the experiences we move through in life. Focus on your own process.

Do not be afraid to ask for help: build yourself a solid support system. Lean into people you can trust and those to whom you can relate. You are never alone.

Listen to yourself: whether your recovery is emotional, mental, or physical it is important to listen to the signals that your body or mind is trying to send you.

Do not manifest your fears. Healing is a learning process, whether you are learning how to walk, how to love, or how to hold your head up high with confidence. Everything worthwhile is created through a process.

Before you teach yourself how to walk again, you have to learn how to stand on your own two feet. You have to learn how to step over obstacles that might get in your way without falling back down, and eventually you’ll learn how to run and even dance. But don't forget how you taught yourself to stand back up.

MEDICINE, HEALING AND INTUITION On a dark fall night, it was cold, damp, and coupled with lightning and rain. The falling leaves drift by the wind and cast floating shadows on the windows in front of me. I don’t recall the occasion or exact date of that particular memory except for the sensations of pain in my body. It was when I was 4, or maybe 5 years old, living in a part of the eastern society ruled by communist ideology in the 70s.

My parents were both college scholars who were struggling through the turbulences of a disastrous period in the history of my people when freedom, culture, respect, and dignity were systematically destroyed. My father emerged from 4-year captivity in a prison cell on campus and had little hope for the life ahead. His consolation to my shaky voice reflecting the pain I was experiencing was seemingly to suggest I put on a thicker layer when the temperature takes a dip. I was told the pain I was having was “caused” by a persistent low-grade fever.

I was taken to different doctors; however, no one could tell my mother what the real causes of my illness were.

Despite inconclusive diagnoses, the treatment methods were unanimous: injecting various antibiotics into my body which resulted in painful swelling bumps on my buttocks that seemed never to go away. I remember being told that Tetracycline was used, which eventually caused my teeth to develop erosions from the roots to the enamels; the other “side effect” could've damaged my kidneys and digestive system.

“Pharmaceutical medications have the effect of (powerfully) disrupting symptoms, not necessarily designed to “heal” the body nor to correct the root imbalances which caused the symptoms to occur in the first place. Symptoms can be “friendly” reminders of the body’s wise nature for us to correct unhealthy patterns in our lives, whether physical, emotional, or behavioral.”

No one could tell me today how many different antibiotics I had been given, and there were quite a few, including the ones that I could never forget. I was a brave boy, never cried when having injections, except that one, so painful that my tears gushed out without my consent.

My health took a turn for the better after I turned 7 years old, thanks to a local track and field club favouring my height and getting me involved with exercise.

Jumping, running, sprinting, and plyometrics made me strong and agile. Before I knew it, I invested most of my energy in training during my years in high school to the level that I broke numerous school records and won first place in the city with a population of three million. What was interesting though, after achieving my athletic goals and maintaining an active lifestyle, I noticed something wasn’t quite right in my mid-20s’. I began to develop severe seasonal allergies during the spring, year after year. I remember a university doctor gave me an antihistamine to address the symptoms and it helped somewhat, however, I just didn’t feel “myself” when I took it. My symptoms got worse over time. I began to develop asthma while having seasonal allergies in the following years. I remembered calling my doctor while out shopping one day in the spring of 2002. I pledged to her that I was in distress and demanded she sends prescriptions for antihistamines and inhalers to the nearest pharmacy so I could get the medications right away.

I never thought medications would be necessary for me to breathe and to keep my nose from dripping constantly. The questions of what the implications of all I was experiencing were to my health and life started to intrigue my mind.

NEXT LEVEL PSYCHIC I wasn’t getting any answers until one night in spring 2006 when the moon was high, and the sky was full of stars. I was in bed, dosing off for the twentieth time from being kept awake by nasal congestion. Not sure how long after drifting off for the last time, I got woken up by a sudden sensation of suffocation and anxiousness. I jumped off the bed, looking for air I could breathe; however, I began wheezing and coughing instead of breathing. My lungs were constricting, my bronchioles were in spasm, and my heart was racing. I thought I was in a fight for my life. The memory of that unforgettable dark and painful night in my childhood flashed in front of my eyes. What was happening to me? I stumbled to the living room and threw my body on the couch.

I thought about calling 911, doubling up on medications, and thinking I could probably use both of those inhalers at once. Amidst feeling frightened and confused, I seemed to have sensed a glimpse of light peeking into my consciousness: I remember praying to God when I was miserably sick from a high fever once, and strange enough, it helped me feel better. So I got on my knees and started to visualize that I was praying to the highest power I had known, asking for help to relieve my distress.

Born in an agnostic family, I didn’t have much worshipping experience, except being at churches on a few Sunday mornings with friends. Somehow, I had always wanted to someday fulfill the quest of “finding” that invisible, illusive yet “feels like it is just hovering over me” kind of existence as the Supreme Power in my life, especially when I experienced hardships and felt this invisible power had guided and protected me all alone. This time, what I experienced was unlike anything I had anticipated: with my head down and darkness surrounding me, I slowly started to feel a sense of relief, as if there was a trickle of light coming from above and gently entering my body through the crown, then little by little, illuminating all the dark spots inside of my body. Feeling lighter and relieved from the darkest fear I had ever experienced, I started to have a realization. Strangely, it seemed to have arrived at my heart center as a visceral sensation, rather than a shift in the mind. Whatever my heart felt was clear: “this would be the last time you depend on your health and life on chances, speculations, or medications.”

It was my time to wake up; it was time to let go of the assumption that I was a sick child who had been damaged by antibiotics, the illusion that I am strong because of my achievement in athletics; and the medical indoctrination that some patients may need to take certain medications through the rest of their lives. I was caught up in the play of fear versus ego; the fear of inadequacy and the ego of proving otherwise. My addictive training regimen distressed my adrenal system further when every time my mind commended the sympathetic nervous system to “do more, go faster and be stronger”.

I could see myself from the above; I could see that LOVE, true love for myself and others was the empowerment I needed to manifest my visions of healing.

I attended a healing workshop where I learned Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and started practicing it daily. I started paying more attention to my body sensations and emotional nudges. I started eating mostly organic foods. I gave up on plastic bottled water, and I practiced qigong and meditation daily.

Looking back at that transformative period after I stopped all medications, I came to the realization that the awakening of my consciousness allowed me to uncover my inner wisdom which already existed in my soul for true healing and wellbeing. 5 Tips to Unblock the Flow of Energy!

There is within us all an energy that can guide, comfort, and move us. We can't see it, we can't touch it but we know it exists. The powerful force that takes us to the highest of mountain tops yet comforts us in the deepest valleys. This energy flows with each breath we take. Our hopes and dreams begin to take flight and we begin to uncover who we truly are... And, then it happens.

The flow of energy stops. A traumatic event occurs.

Unkind words are spoken. Unfounded beliefs take root.

Instead of feeling the pure essence of love, you are now struggling to keep yourself from exploding in anger and frustration. The tears that were once tears of gratitude are now tears of sorrow and pain. This is grief.

"How could this ever be? How did my life get so far off course?" But did it? If we all have a purpose, then we all have a journey. Each journey is unique.

Every person has a choice, to either embrace the journey or fight the growth.

With each step I've taken on my path, I fought with everything I could. My journey began with grief.

Dealing with grief is where my fighting truly began. I was filled with hurt, pain, anger, and bitterness. I longed forever but doubted myself. I fought forgiveness. I fought joy. I fought happiness. I thought it was an easier way to be than deal with any pain that I was feeling.

I must have made a conscious decision that I no longer wanted to feel the heaviness of grief. I wanted to love again. I wanted to be loved again. My energy seemed to have shifted. My energy somehow started flowing. I was shocked at the transformation that was happening right before my eyes. Each day, I could feel things shifting. Unknowing what was really happening but it felt beautiful. I studied and went deeper into my healing. Slowly, I started trusting the Divine. The life force within me was flowing naturally and magically. And I wanted to pass on the five essential elements I incorporated into this transformation.

But, have you ever heard the saying “one day I just woke up, and boom, here I am?” Well, honest to Pete, that is exactly what happened to me. After years of spiraling in grief, literally one day many years later after his passing I woke up from a solid night's sleep and my healing journey began.

I had pretty good momentum for a while but, in a blink of an eye, it would happen again. My energy flow stopped. Suddenly, unexpectedly, grief entered my world once more. It wrapped me like a cozy blanket on a winter’s night. At this moment in time, I knew I had to make a new choice. The choice of embracing the journey or fighting it once again. This time I quickly chose to embrace the journey and let it lead me somewhere new.

4. Allow expressions to come through.

Just like pictures and symbols, expressions are an efficient way to receive information. If you see a plate of food overflowing, you might hear the expression, "her plate is too full," or you see someone that looks extremely and abnormally tall and skinny like they have been stretched out, the expression "she's stretched too thin" may come to mind.

5. Be open to interpreting symbolism.

I encourage you to make a list of symbols that mean something to you. A symbol or visual can mean something very different to each person, so it's helpful to individualize your symbols.

This will also help with the efficiency of receiving your information and giving readings to others.

6. Don't disregard any hints or information.

You may be "in your zone," and someone seemingly out of the blue appears, and you might be quick to think you are supposed to disregard or clear that person or experience out of your space or off your reading screen. Before you do, take some time to address what this person means to you or is symbolic of. They may be coming through as a way to give you efficient information and a new symbol to add to your symbols list.

7. Speak it out loud.

Try speaking your information out loud. Speaking out loud is not a must but can help complete the receiving and understanding process. It's similar to when you have a dream, and you don't really understand it until you say it out loud and hear the words, then all of a sudden, it makes sense.

8. Say what you see and see what you say.

Give yourself permission to "say what you see and see what you say." If you see an apple, say it out loud, "I see an apple," as you give attention to the energy; it's like acknowledging that you see the information and it's ok to see the next thing. So it begins to shift, and your awareness is on the fact that the apple looks a little green or it's still growing. It's not quite ripe or ready yet. That may even be the answer to your question.

9. Visual and auditory cues are your friend.

If you are feeling stuck in a visual, you can always start from scratch and ask for a new different visual. Sometimes certain information is easier to receive through a visual and sometimes through words. If the visual is blocked, ask to hear the information and vice versa.

If you can't hear, ask to see something.

10. Take note of what arises.

When you can, write down the information you receive. This is helpful because sometimes you simply forget the information that is coming through, and some information you receive may not make complete sense until later. When it does, it's just more validation that you can read energy! The more your information is validated, the more you let go of doubt and establish trust in yourself and your abilities.

Track your intuition How do you know if it's your intuition?

As an intuitive reader and psychic development teacher, the question I get most is, "How do I know if it's my intuition?" At first, it may be challenging to differentiate your intuition from your emotions, fear, or wishful thinking.

Still, the more you connect to your intuition, the more you will notice it and identify it as your intuition.

You want to start with knowing what your intuition actually feels like.

Sometimes it may feel like a fleeting thought when you are being guided through the small things, like "grab your jacket." For the bigger things in life, it's more of a deeper knowingness that doesn't go away.

Whether it's the smaller or the bigger things, notice the subtleties. When you continue to connect to that feeling or sense, it grows stronger. The more you listen, trust and take action on your intuition, you will become in alignment with it.

Intuition feels subtle…

It can be a little different for everyone, but here is how to tap into and recognize whether it's your intuition or not.

It feels calm, light, and neutral.

It feels like gentle guidance, a sense of direction, or a deep knowing.

It feels like a slight tingle, just enough to make you aware of something.

It feels easy to tap into “yes”,”no”, “this feels right”, or “something feels off.”

It feels familiar or innate, like something that is you, that has always been you.

If it's hard to differentiate your intuition from other people's thoughts and projections, see if you can identify whose other voices you are hearing. You may recognize the judgmental voice of a parent, friend, spouse, society, culture, the voice of an emotion or your logical mind. This is not your intuition.

It is not your intuition if…

It feels heavy, forced, abrasive, or judgmental.

It feels like an emotion (fear, worry, or concern).

You can recognize it's someone else's information.

You are questioning your deservingness.

You are your ultimate guidance system. When you trust your intuition, life flows with more ease. When you ignore your intuition, it will continue to nudge you, and something will feel off. Trusting this guidance, even when you may not want to hear it, is a practice in and of itself. I know, easier said than done!
