We are thrilled to introduce the Offices of the New York State Inspector General’s (OIG) Statewide Internship Program—designed to empower the next generation of public servants and foster meaningful growth through hands-on learning experience.
An internship at OIG offers a unique opportunity to learn about New York State government by working alongside investigative counsels, investigators, and auditors to evaluate allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse in the state’s executive branch agencies, divisions, officers, boards and commissions, and over most public authorities and public benefit corporations.
OIG seeks highly motivated and detail-oriented college, law, and graduate students who love a challenge, work well as part of a team, and are passionate about our core mission of enhancing integrity, transparency, and accountability in New York State government. In order to expose law fellows and interns to various aspects of state government, the summer includes a variety of informational programs including a weekly lecture series, roundtable lunches, and field trips.
Our goal is to offer law fellows and interns an enriching experience where they can apply their skills and make meaningful contributions to our work. We are confident this program will shape future leaders while strengthening OIG’s commitment to accountability, integrity, and transparency.

SITE VISITS
To expose all Summer Program participants to the diversity and breadth of New York State agencies, every effort is made to facilitate attendance at, or participation in, internal and external agency meetings, public meetings and trainings, court proceedings, and site visits to jurisdictional agencies. Past site visits have included all of New York State’s Bridge Authority Bridges, New York Power Authority’s Niagara Power Vista, the New York State Archives, the New York/New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, the New York State Capitol, New York State Court of Appeals, and more!
The site visits were the best part of the internship! All of my peers in law school only drafted legal documents and observed court. The field trips and Speaker Series provided something so unique and worthwhile to this experience, Through the site visits, I was able to better understand the role of the office, network with professionals, gain a deeper understanding of the legal community, and break up the monotony of legal work therefore ensuring my full attention and energy when drafting.
