J.A.S. Trio Provides Great Local Entertainment

and perform nice little gigs at nearby establishments. The group released a 2006 CD called “Out on the Town,” featuring standards like “Autumn Leaves,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and more. Enter a local eatery, one may find Stephany melodiously singing tunes while Jimmy and Arnold accompany her on guitar and upright bass, respectively. “I met Arnold while auditioning for another jazz band back in 2004,” recalls Ramundo. “He had always wanted to bring his wife [Stephany] along to sing a few tunes but the drummer at that time [it was his project], never seemed keen

on the idea. That group disbanded shortly afterwards, and Arnold and I felt musical chemistry, so we decided to continue.” Stephany attended one of the duo’s gigs, provided lead vocals that evening, and the J.A.S. Trio was officially born. Per Stephany, the name part was easy for the unique
form of jazz they play. “The JAS Trio got its name from the original spelling of “jazz”....”jass.” The first letters of our names spell out “jas.” The group began started out playing in coffee houses to spread the word, gain experience, enjoy some food and garner a small paycheck.
“Our first good paying job came when we made a connection with Amazing Grapes in Pompton Lakes,” says Stephany. “We played here on a regular basis for about two to three years before dwindling down to about four times a year.” During this period, the J.A.S. cont. on page 15
