the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, as a result of this project. Iannicelli has been in scouting since 2005, when he joined Cub Scout Pack 54 under Den Leader Ted Edgar. In 2009, after achieving the Arrow of Light, the highest rank in Cub Scouts, he joined Boy Scout Troop 159 under Scoutmaster Bob William. His journey to Eagle Scout required Iannicelli to attain six prior ranks: scout, tenderfoot, 2nd class, 1st class, star and life. Scouts must successfully fulfill several requirements for each rank. They learn many important life skills, such as first aid, camping and citizenship throughout the ranks. Iannicelli also earned the required 21 merit badges and coordinated and executed a service and leadership community project. For his Eagle Scout proj-
ect, Iannicelli restored the playground at his grandfather’s church, New Beginnings Bible Church in Flanders. The project took place over the course of two months and had a total of 376 hours. The project consisted of refurbishing and re-staining three play sets, re-painting a merrygo-round and building a bench for parents to sit on and watch their children play. He obtained donations from the New Beginnings Bible Church congregation, as well as several local businesses, including Lakeside Nursery, Sherwin Williams, Home Depot, La Gratella, Roxbury Bagels, BJ’s and Amish Mike’s. Approximately 25 volunteers assisted with the project. He and his grandfather worked together to build the redwood bench over the course of several months. The newly restored playground has been a welcome renovation to the church
and the surrounding community. Iannicelli said he is very thankful for all of the leadership and guidance of the adult leaders and fel-
