Seniors Earn Character Scholarships From Wegmans

ive graduating high school seniors from Morris County received $500 scholarship grants from Wegmans Food Markets for their character and values. Wegmans partnered with each school to select a student who exemplifies the family-owned company’s values: Caring, respect, high standards, empowerment and making a

The scholarship winners in the New View Media coverage area are Alex LoRusso of Hanover Park High School, Becky Garcia of Morristown High School and Julia Hark of Whippany Park High School. “Our employee scholarship program is a point of pride at Wegmans, and it’s a pleasure to award these honorary scholarships as

young people into labs to teach them STEM subjects, has now reached 380,000 children across the United States, she said. She and her department received the Public Relations Society of America’s Pyramid Award, Best Special Program category for the development of the science education program, according to the luncheon brochure. Rotenburg started her professional career as a special education teacher in her native Canada and has always focused on women and their children in her philanthropy. “I vowed to always help young deserving women,” she said. Working for a major international corporation, Rotenberg and a few female colleagues formed an informal women in leadership group. “We were under the radar because of how complicated it is to do anything up front,” she said. “You don’t do anything alone, you do it with a team, you do it with your spouse,” she said. In her acceptance, Rotenburg encouraged everyone in the audience “to learn every day.” Rotenburg has been in her current role since 2009. Prior to that she was president of BASF Canada,

overseeing communications, legal, human resources, finance and logistics for all BASF Canadian business, including agricultural products, nutrition, chemicals, performance products and plastics. She was BASF Canada’s general counsel and corporate secretary. She holds a juris doctor from the University of Western Ontario, a bachelor’s in political students and a bachelor’s of education from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She and her husband share their home with “three perplexing members of Generation Y and a pampered dog.” Also honored was Susanne Newmark, president and CEO of Newmark Associates, Inc. Newmark noted her daughter and granddaughters flew up from Florida to be at the luncheon and thanked her daughter for her accomplishments in spite of not having June Cleaver for a mother. Newmark founded her commercial real estate firm 27 years ago and continues leadership programs even as many firms are cutting back, according to her biography in the luncheon brochure. In her acceptance speech, Newmark said she continued on page 4
