30th Holiday Festival Will Continue Important Fundraising Efforts For NYFS This holiday season will mark the 30th time that a Holiday Festival will benefit Newtown Youth & Family Services.

The 2015 Newtown Holiday Festival will be presented Sunday, December 6, from 11 am until 4 pm.

The festival will include ballet performances, trolley tours, a gingerbread house contest, the Festival of Trees, visits with Mrs Claus and Frozen-themed children’s events.

The Jingle Bell Jam, which debuted last year on the eve of the Holiday Festival, is also scheduled to return, on December 5.

Additional events will be announced as the festival date approaches.

One of the most popular events of the Holiday Festival is the walking tour of privately owned homes. Hour Tour Co-Chairs Brid Craddock and Kathy McLeary have arranged for six homes to be on the tour. All of this year’s houses are on Main Street; most festival events will be within Edmond Town Hall, at 45 Main Street.

The Holiday Festival raises money primarily through the tickets sold which provide entry to its events. 2015 Holiday Festival tickets are $25 for a family four-pack (two adults and two children), $10 for adults, and $5 for children (with a $10 maximum for children).

Tickets will be sold at Newtown Savings Bank branches in Newtown and Brookfield, and at the NYFS office, 15 Berkshire Road in Newtown. They will also be sold on the day of the festival.

NYFS is licensed by the Department of Children & Families as an outpatient clinic for children, and by the Department of Public Health as a psychiatric outpatient clinic for adults and as a facility for the care or treatment of substance abuse or dependent persons. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation.

St Rose Readying Christmas Boutique The St Rose Christmas Boutique will return to the church’s Parish Hall Friday through Sunday, December 4-6. Shoppers will find a large selection of Christmas gifts, including many new offerings this year. A large display of angels, pictured, was one small part of last year’s event. Proceeds will benefit the parish. The grand opening will be Friday night, 6:30 to 10.

The boutique will then continue Saturday, 9:30 am to 7 pm; and Sunday, 8 am to 1:30 pm. The Monsignor Weiss Gathering Hall, at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, is at 46 Church Hill Road. For additional information call the parish office, 203-426-1014.

Author Replaces ‘Christmas Jar’ Cash Stolen At Ohio Library DOVER, OHIO (AP) — A jar of cash that was meant to be a Christmas gift for a needy family this holiday season was stolen from an Ohio library in early October. The author whose book inspired the collection stepped in to save the day.

Dover Public Library had collected about $1,000 that was swiped by a thief caught on surveillance video. Some of the money was found the next day in the book drop with a handwritten apology.

The Times Reporter reported that Christmas Jars author Jason Wright started collecting donations to replace the fund, and he brought a jar with $1,000 when he spoke at the library in late October.

Mr Wright had hoped to speak with the jailed suspect to explain the charitable purpose of the jars, but the young man from Dover declined the visit.
