THE FOUNDATION OF A SAFE AND CONNECTED COMMUNITY
Today and every day, I am reminded of the many blessings that make Newton County one of the finest places in Georgia to live, work, worship, raise a family and build a future.
June is a special month. It marks the beginning of summer, a season when families spend more time together, children participate in activities, and communities come alive with opportunities to create lasting memories. It is also a time when we recognize National Safety Month and celebrate Father’s Day, two reminders of the importance of looking out for one another and serving those around us.
As your Sheriff, I have the privilege of meeting people from every part of our county. Whether I am visiting a school, attending a community meeting, partnering with local businesses, worshipping with members of our faith community or simply speaking with residents, I continue to see the same thing: Newton County is filled with people who care deeply about one another.
The strength of Newton County has never been defined by its size or resources. Its greatest strength comes from its people. It can be seen in neighbors who step up when help is needed, parents who make sacrifices for their children, educators who inspire students and community members who dedicate their time to making a difference.
That same spirit can be found throughout the many individuals who serve our county each day, including those in public safety, healthcare, education, ministry and countless other roles that strengthen the community we call home.
I firmly believe a safe community cannot be built by law enforcement alone. It requires a partnership where residents and public safety professionals work together with a shared commitment to protecting one another.
That partnership remains the foundation of everything we do at the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Public safety is strongest when citizens remain engaged, stay informed and take an active role in their communities.
Summer often brings increased travel, outdoor
ativities and time spent with family and friends. I encourage everyone to make safety a priority, whether traveling on our roadways, attending local events, supervising children around water or enjoying time outside.
A moment of caution can prevent a lifetime of regret. A simple decision to stay aware can make all the difference.
This summer, we must also continue focusing on one of our greatest responsibilities: investing in our youth.
Our children represent the future of Newton County. The opportunities we provide today will help shape the leaders, professionals and community members they become tomorrow.
Young people need encouragement and positive influences. They need adults who are willing to listen, guide them and remind them that their future matters.
I encourage parents, grandparents, mentors, coaches, educators, clergy members and community leaders to continue pouring time and attention into the lives of young people. Sometimes a conversation, a kind word or a small act of support can have a lasting impact.
As I reflect on the many partnerships that contribute to Newton County’s success, I am reminded that strong communities are built when people care for one another and work toward a shared purpose.
To our faith community, thank you for the compassion and support you provide throughout Newton County. Your ministries and outreach efforts bring hope and assistance to countless individuals and families.
To our business community, thank you for investing in our county and helping create opportunities for growth. Your commitment plays an important role in strengthening the place we call home.
To our educators, thank you for preparing the next generation. Your influence extends far beyond the classroom and leaves a lasting impression on students.

And to the men and women of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, I offer my deepest appreciation. Each day, our deputies, detention officers, investigators, administrative staff, chaplains and civilian personnel demonstrate a commitment to serving others with professionalism and dedication.
I am proud of the men and women who wear the Newton County Sheriff’s Office badge and the difference they make in the lives of our citizens.
As we continue through 2026, I remain optimistic about the future of Newton County because I believe in the people who make this community special.
I believe in the families who call this place home, the organizations that serve our residents and the individuals who continue to invest their time and talents into making Newton County better.
History has shown that communities thrive when people unite around a common purpose. Challenges will always exist, but our willingness to work together gives us the strength to overcome them.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is located at 15151 Alcovy Road in Covington, Georgia. From I-20, take Exit 92 onto Alcovy Road and travel north on Alcovy Road for approximately one mile and cross over Highway 142. The Sheriff's Office will be on the left.
The administrative office hours for the Newton County Sheriff's Office are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding county holidays.
The Newton County Jail is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

SHERIFF SWEARS IN NEWLY HIRED NCSO PERSONNEL, SUMMER INTERNS
On June 2, Sheriff Ezell Brown administered the Oath of Office to three newly hired Newton County Sheriff’s Office personnel. The personnel who took the Oath of Office were Deputy Sheriff Malik Harrison, Detention Officer Curtis Booker Jr. and Detention Technician Shwana May.
Sheriff Brown also administered the Oath of Office to six summer interns who will support the NCSO throughout the season. The interns who took the Oath of Office were Emma Mann, Deonta Robinson, Brianna Leverett, Takirra Smith, Shakira White and Malakai Dotting.
K-9 SADIE VISITS SUMMER CAMP AT WEST NEWTON ELEMENTARY
On June 12, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office visited the summer camp at West Newton Elementary School, where students had the opportunity to meet K-9 Sadie.
The visit allowed campers to interact with deputies in a fun and engaging setting while gaining insight into the important role K-9 Sadie plays in serving the community.
Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office appreciate opportunities to connect with local youth and support positive community programs. Building relationships with the community’s youth remains an important part of the agency’s commitment to public service.
NCSO PARTICIPATES IN COVINGTON’S JUNETEENTH
On June 20, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office participated in the 2026 Juneteenth celebration in Covington. The day kicked off with the annual Juneteenth parade through the Square, followed by a festival at Wolverine Gym.
Sheriff Brown and the NCSO thank everyone who made the day so special, especially the Newton County Historical Committee on Black Heritage Preservation for organizing such an incredible event.
NCSO CONDUCTS VEHICLE CHECKPOINT TO PROMOTE ROAD SAFETY
On June 26, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Covington Police Department, Georgia State Patrol and surrounding Central Region Traffic Enforcement Network (CRTEN) agencies, conducted a countywide vehicle checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. to reduce impaired driving and promote road safety.
The vehicle checkpoints resulted in the following statistics:
• 6 arrests unrelated to DUI offenses
• 5 DUI arrests
• 32 citations issued
• 27 warnings issued
• 3 drug-related arrests
• 7 vehicle impounds
Sheriff Ezell Brown emphasized the importance of checkpoints, stating, “Our top priority is the safety of our community. This coordinated effort shows the dedication of our deputies and partner agencies to keeping Newton County’s roads safe. By addressing impaired driving and other violations, we aim to prevent tragedies and protect lives.”
Sheriff Brown and the NCSO appreciate the collaborative efforts of all participating agencies and thank the community for their cooperation.
NCSO HOSTS 7TH ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL GOLF TOURNAMENT
On June 22, 2026, Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office hosted their 7th annual Back to School Golf Tournament at Ashton Hills Golf Course in Covington, Georgia.
This year’s event brought together 84 golfers, forming 21 teams, to raise funds for the Sheriff’s Office’s annual Back to School Giveaway, which provides local students with essential school supplies ahead of the new academic year.
“I am grateful to our sponsors, golfers and community partners whose support helped make this year’s Back to School Golf Tournament a success,” said Sheriff Brown. “The funds raised through this event directly support our annual Back to School Giveaway, ensuring students throughout Newton County have the supplies they need to begin the school year prepared and ready to learn. I also want to thank our volunteers and Sheriff’s Office personnel for their dedication and hard work. Their commitment to serving our community continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families.”

Since 2009, Sheriff Brown has remained committed to partnering with community members, local businesses and organizations to give back through a variety of annual Newton County Sheriff’s Office events, including the Back to School Golf Tournament, Back to School Supply Giveaway, National Faith & Blue Weekend, Toy Ride and the Sheriffs’ Guardian Angels Toy Giveaway.
The success of these events is made possible through the generosity of sponsors and all donations supporting these initiatives. No taxpayer funds are used to support these community programs.

SHERIFF BROWN JOINS COMMUNITY FOR VILLAGE BLAST
On June 27, Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office joined the community for the City of Porterdale’s annual Village Blast celebration. The event brought neighbors together for an evening of patriotic celebration. Sheriff Brown and the Sheriff’s Office enjoyed the opportunity to connect with residents and celebrate alongside the community.
Behind the scenes, Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies worked alongside officers with the Porterdale Police Department to assist with traffic control and help ensure everyone remained safe during the festivities.
NCSO HOSTS 7TH ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL GOLF TOURNAMENT
On June 26, Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Unit visited Bethlehem Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School in Covington, bringing smiles and excitement to the children in attendance.
During the visit, Sheriff Brown and members of the Community Outreach Unit spent time with the children and presented them with junior deputy badges as a special reminder of their visit.
Sheriff Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office appreciate opportunities to connect with the community’s youth, building positive relationships and inspiring the next generation.
