NCSO July 2022 newsletter

On July 4, 1776, the 13 American colonies declared their independence from the British monarchy. Also known as Independence Day, the 4th of July has been a federal holiday in the United States of America since the year 1870. The month of July is when we see and take advantage of the beautiful fireworks, the magnificent celebrations, and the delicious food!
Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the 2nd and 3rd US presidents, expired on the exact same day, July 4, 1826. It is extremely doubtful there was much cel ebrating occurring on that particular Independence Day!
One of the most historic facts about July occurred on July 16th, 1969, when the crew of the Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Four days later, on July 20th, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. The moon landing will forever be known as one of America’s greatest scientific achieve ments.
A MOMENT WITH
Unfortunately, one of the more tragic events occurred when seven US Presidents passed away in July; the most of any month.
Currently, July 4th celebrations are held throughout the country full of honor, cheerfulness, and time well spent with family and friends.
I have certainly learned that spending time with family is one of the best ways to create memorable experiences. In my opinion, nothing can replace the time one spends with his or her family. This is especially true if you have children.AsIwas growing up, my mother and father spent a considerable amount of time with me, my sisters, and my brothers. They were true example setters. They taught us values and how to treat and love one another. As a father, I have always tried to spend time with my family. Although my profession dictates a busy lifestyle, I will never forget that my family always comes first in my life. My cur rent thought process about family and friends mirrors the words of the actress by the name of Kathleen Bates, who once said, “My inner strength comes from my friends. I have a very close group of friends and family, and we all help each other through our dark times.”
On the other hand, Independence Day provides a great opportunity for family members and friends to reunite and relax. Why is it important to spend time with family and friends? Please understand that while time alone is import ant for creativity and inspiration, spending quality time with family and friends is just as important.
MOMENTS TO
1. It relieves stress: According to a study, conducted by Carnegie Mellon University, individuals who spend supplementary time with family and friends, tend to possess enhanced coping mechanisms when managing stress. They tend to use their social group as a stress buffer, allowing them to communicate their stress, instead of seeking negative coping mechanisms, such as alcohol and tobacco.
Spending time with family and friends can assist in coping with stress. According to Daniel Gilbert, a happi ness expert at Harvard University, “We are happy when we have family, we are happy when we have friends, and almost all the other things we think make us happy, are actually just ways of getting more family and friends.” I think I should let you know that while money cannot buy happiness, spending time with the ones you love is always an excellent investment.
Research shows that spending time with friends and family makes a difference when it comes to happiness. Social time is particularly important for happiness, even forStudiesintroverts.have shown that the amount of time spent with family and friends contributes greatly towards improving happiness; even more so than an increased income.
CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER IN JULY
2. Helps one’s overall well-being: Social groups pro vide emotional support, which can assist you in feel ing better about yourself. In fact, people who regard their friends and family as supportive, tend to possess an outstanding feeling of meaning in life and a greater sense of purpose than those who do not.
I would like to share with you some of the health bene fits of spending quality time with your friends and family.
As you might know, the month of July is named after the Roman leader Julius Caesar. Before the name July was changed, it was known as Quintilis, the Latin word for five, and the fifth month of the Gregorian calendar. Julius Caesar later modified the calendar, adding the months of January and February, and accordingly, the Julian calendar is in use currently!

Research is beginning to show that young people with strong family connections are far more likely to be well adjusted and create a better success of their life in terms of securing an improved education and better jobs. Your fam ily is a safe environment where your children can learn to interact without being judged or ridiculed for any unusual behavior. In this safe family environment, they learn what is socially acceptable and the importance of social skills.
SHERIFF BROWN
Participating in family gatherings so that your children can spend quality time with relatives provide them with an opportunity to follow the positive examples around them.
Children admire their relatives and love hearing stories about their lives. These stories oftentimes become a part of their heritage and will provide them insights into what they may be confronted with later in life, inclusive of how to overcome challenges they may encounter.

3. It Is Great for heart health: Stress can encourage the development of inflammation in the arteries, which is a precursor to clogged arteries. A study found that when individuals have the support of family and friends, they actually possess a reduced pulse and blood pressure, which in time, assist in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Please understand that when it comes to family, very little has changed. People live in families and whatever occurs in life, they are always ready to help. Why is family so important? The role of the family in a person’s life is crucial. The importance of this compo nent cannot be exaggerated. Our parents, close friends since birth and throughout life, continue to support us because we are a family. Every person remembers them from childhood. Parents teach us everything they know themselves. Thanks to them, we begin to walk, talk, hold a spoon, read, and write. If they had not been a vital part of our lives, who would we be today?
As I prepare to close this message, I want to leave you with this thought: Family isn’t always blood; It is the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are; the ones who would do any thing to see you smile and who love you no matter what.
Abundant Blessings to you and your respective families.
