WHEN THE FASHION PLANET TURNS INTO A HYSTERICAL TORNADO FOR A WEEK! The Hennessy Park Hotel, a unique venue for fashion professionals to meet each other through its various events, presented, for the first time in Mauritius, a fashion week from April 3 to 7. A five-day programme of activities featuring fashion shows and four workshops bringing together 16 local and international designers.

A grand premiere in the fashion industry. This edition of Fashion Week has been conceived to be the meeting place for fashion lovers in Mauritius.

A GREAT SEND Once again, the group launched the event by organizing a significant operation dedicated to fashion, launching the first edition of Fashion Week, which was organized by the Hotel of Ebène. Something to delight fashion lovers. The Hennessy Park Hotel, always at the forefront of fashion, has been able to open up to this realm by offering a choice of settings dedicated to the cultural scene and the contemporary landscape and has become an essential creative platform in Mauritius. Since its inception, the place has been sought after by designers from all over the world, including those in fashion.

This gathering brought together models, creators, makeup artists, hairdressers and photographers. The official launch took place on April 2 with a private ceremony before the first session on Wednesday, April 3, with a textile design workshop led by Isabelle Lacassagne of Maison Chanel Paris. In the evening, the public had the opportunity to discover a men’s and women’s ready-to-wear fashion show with stylists Annabelle Fleury, Oliver Thomas and Jeena Bodha. Also part of this fashion week’s program, celebrities from renowned brands, classified according to their specialization, came to lead four sessions, at a cost of 500 rupees per person.

EXPANSION Designed and developed in great style in the world’s major capitals, Fashion Week is always a great success with fashion enthusiasts and professionals. Fashionistas and designers from all horizons did not miss the Fashion Week workshops. Ivorian designers Yale Woody and One Pelebe shared their experience in the world of fashion design. Throughout the week, the public was able to attend some twenty fashion shows, which enabled the collections of 16 designers to be presented at the Hennessy Park Hotel, which, in the pursuit of their commitment to a national cultural identity, was able to position itself as a relay for these talented designers.

Among the locals were Akhil Tooree, stylist and Grand winner of the 2018 Backstage Awards. An exciting experience for the young man who thought he was incompetent for the Fashion Week. “It was an exciting experience and at the same time, I was proud to have been selected for this fashion week alongside the greatest Mauritian designers,” exclaims our fanatic. Even if the path is not so easy for him in fashion, it is in a more than positive state of mind that Akhil begins his ascension. He is convinced that by working together to build a stronger and more cohesive team, we can encourage the expansion of fashion in Mauritius, which can lead to job creation.

A BEAUTIFUL ENDING Saturday, April 6 was marked by a make-up workshop led

by Cédric Lanappe and a fashion show. In addition, Yale Woody and Kone Pelebe hosted a gala dinner. Hennessy Fashion Week ended on Sunday, April 7 by the pool with the presentation of the summer parade of designers Laurianna Babylone, Alicia Rountree, Tina Bhugun-Toolsee and Marine Dalais, Gabrielle and Megan.

In addition to the workshops and fashion shows, an exhibition of designer creations and fashion photographs was on display throughout the week.

QUAND LA PLANÈTE MODE SE TRANSFORME EN TORNADE HYSTÉRIQUE POUR UNE SEMAINE. Le Hennessy Park Hotel, scène de rencontre privilégiée des professionnels de la mode à travers ses différents événements, a présenté, pour la première fois à Maurice, une semaine de la mode du 3 au 7 avril. Un programme de cinq jours d’activités rythmé par des défilés de mode et quatre ateliers rassemblant 16 créateurs locaux et internationaux. Une grande première dans le paysage de la mode. Cette édition de la semaine de la mode a été conçue pour être le lieu de rencontre des amoureux de la mode à l’Ile Maurice.

COUP D’ENVOI Une fois de plus, le groupe a initié l’événement en organisant une intervention significative consacrée à la mode, en lançant la première édition de la Semaine de la mode qui a été organisée par l’Hôtel d’Ebène. De quoi ravir les amoureux des tendances. Le Hennessy Park Hotel, toujours à la pointe de la mode, a su s’ouvrir à ce monde en offrant un écrin de choix dédié à la scène culturelle et au paysage contemporain et est devenu une plateforme créative incontournable de l’Ile Maurice. Le lieu est prisé depuis ses débuts par les créateurs de toutes provenances, y compris la mode. Cette rencontre a rassemblé des modèles, des créateurs, des maquilleurs, des coiffeurs et des photographes. Le démarrage officiel a eu lieu le 2 avril avec une soirée privée avant la première séance, le mercredi 3 avril, avec un atelier de création textile animé par Isabelle Lacassagne de Maison Chanel Paris. Le soir, le public a eu l’occasion de découvrir un défilé de prêtà-porter homme et femme avec les stylistes Annabelle Fleury, Oliver Thomas et Jeena Bodha. Aussi programme de cette semaine de la mode, des vedettes de marques de renom, classées en fonction de leur spécialité, sont venues diriger quatre sessions, pour un coût de 500 roupies par personne.

EXPANSION Conceptualisée très en vogue dans les grandes capitales mondiales, la semaine de la mode remporte toujours un vif succès auprès des mordus de la mode et des professionnels. Les fashionistas et les créateurs de mode de tous horizons n’ont pas manqué les ateliers de la Semaine de la mode. Les stylistes ivoiriens, Yale Woody et One Pelebe, ont partagé leur expérience du monde de la création de mode. Ainsi, le public a pu assister tout au long de la semaine à une vingtaine de défilés qui ont permis de présenter les collections de 16 créateurs au Hennessy Park Hotel, qui dans la continuité de leur engagement en vue d’une identité culturelle nationale a su se positionner sous la forme d’un relais pour ces créateurs de talent. Akhil Tooree, styliste et Grand gagnant des « Backstage Awards 2018 » figurait parmi les locaux. Une expérience palpitante pour le jeune homme qui se croyait incompétent pour la Semaine de la mode. “Ce fut une expérience passionnante et en même temps, j’ai eu la fierté d’avoir été sélectionné pour cette semaine de la mode aux côtés des plus grands créateurs mauriciens”, s’exclame notre fanatique. Même si le chemin n’est pas si facile pour lui dans la mode, c’est dans un état d’esprit plus que positif qu’Akhil entame son ascension. Il est convaincu qu’en travaillant ensemble pour constituer une équipe plus forte et plus soudée, nous pouvons encourager l’expansion de la mode à Maurice, ce qui peut entraîner la création d’emplois.

UN DÉNOUEMENT TOUT EN BEAUTÉ Le samedi 6 avril a été marqué par un atelier de maquillage animé par Cédric Lanappe et un défilé de mode. De plus, Yale Woody et Kone Pelebe ont été les hôtes d`un dîner gala. Le Hennessy Fashion Week a pris fin le dimanche 7 avril près de la piscine avec la présentation du défilé estival des créateurs Laurianna Babylone, Alicia Rountree, Tina Bhugun-Toolsee et Marine Dalais, Gabrielle et Megan.

Outre les ateliers et défilés de mode, une exposition de créations de créateurs et de photographies de mode sera a eu lieu tout au long de la semaine.

FROM AFRICA, WITH STYLE! She is 27 years old, Mauritian and businesswoman. He is 28 years old, Nigerian and businessman. Love has made its way into to their hearts and their hearts have made their way to... AFRICA! Do you want to discover who is hidden behind these African colorful printed fabrics? In view of the release of “Origin Africa”, a new concept created by the photographer and director of Newstyle magazine Sachin Sagar, we met Karen and Michael, directors of Ankara Mauritius.

ANKARA LIT ON FIRE Fashion in Africa is gaining more and more attention in the global fashion industry, and for many compelling reasons. From Nigeria to South Africa and all over the world, outstanding talents are playing the international style game with something absolutely unparalleled.

And it is not only the flawless patterns inspired by the continent’s vibrant colours, sounds and legacy that have drawn the interest of some of the industry’s greatest protagonists: these African fashion designers are making fashion their own way by prioritizing local and artisanal skills and sustainable production as the main focus of their business models. While the current trend is being dominated by American and European creators and brands, African designers are demonstrating that it is time for Africa to thrive now. Karen Kistnamah and Michael Olawole are the two young characters behind Ankara Mauritius, one of the most fiery African collections on the island since a while now. “It all started with a present for Karen of some African fabrics for her 25th birthday.

She made a blazer and a dress out of it and it aroused a lot of interest. People kept asking where to find one for them.

A year later, Ankara Mauritius was born with the aim of offering an African experience to Mauritius. Our first collaboration was with Hans Dax for Miss University Africa Mauritius. This collaboration has allowed us to open up to the modeling industry,” says Michael.

AN EMERGING STORY.....

The label name comes in one single message: EMERGE. When creating and choosing their prints, they draw inspiration from each other before coming from different African cultures, mainly from Nigeria, where Michael is native. “Ankara Mauritius, as a brand, strives to make people happy, confident and stand out from the crowd with our range of products. The brand does not just create products, but offers a specialized African experience with the stories that each print has to offer,” explains our couple. When asked about the possible mass production of these labour-intensive looks on the Island, our couple followed: “With more than two years of operations, we discovered that Mauritius liked our brand because we are atypical”. With such success in Mauritius, the couple is determined to keep burning and shredding, regardless of the size of the brand. In addition, our couple is launching “Origin Africa” for Newstyle magazine. They are more than convinced that they can bring uniqueness, mainly through the stories of Africa. “We are very honored to be the flagship of the Origin Africa concept. We believe we have what it takes to share rich Ankara stories through our products. We think it is a very welcoming idea that has the potential to explore African culture in a positive way and what it can offer to the Mauritian people,” explain Karen and Michael. Remaining true to our African roots, wherever we are in the world, is the key factor of Africananism. A message that our Ankara owners value and want to spread to the fullest.

ANKARA ENFLAMMÉ La mode en Afrique gagne de plus en plus de terrain dans l’industrie mondiale de la mode, et pour de nombreuses raisons fascinantes. Du Nigeria à l’Afrique du Sud, en passant par l’Afrique du Sud et le reste du monde, des talents émérites se mesurent à l’échelle internationale avec quelque chose d’absolument sans égal. Et ce ne sont pas seulement les modèles impeccables inspirés par les couleurs vives, les sons et l’héritage du continent qui ont suscité l’intérêt de certains des plus grands protagonistes de l’industrie : ces créateurs de mode africains se sont forgés une place particulière en accordant une attention prioritaire au savoir-faire local, à la production durable, aux artisanats et aux modèles économiques des pays. Alors que la tendance actuelle est dominée par les créateurs et les marques américains et européens, les stylistes africains démontrent qu’il est temps pour l’Afrique de prospérer maintenant. Karen Kistnamah et Michael Olawole sont les deux jeunes personnages qui se cachent derrière Ankara Mauritius, l’une des collections africaines les plus ardentes de l’île depuis un certain temps déjà. “Tout a commencé par un cadeau pour les 25 ans de Karen de tissu africain. Elle en a fait une veste et une robe et cela a suscité beaucoup de curiosité. Les gens n’arrêtaient pas de demander comment en trouver un pour eux. Un an plus tard, Ankara Maurice est née

dans le but d’offrir une expérience africaine à Maurice.

“Notre première collaboration a été avec Hans Dax pour Miss University Africa Mauritius. Cette collaboration nous a permis de nous ouvrir à l’industrie de la mode “, affirme Michael.

UNE HISTOIRE ÉMERGENTE...

Le nom de la marque se présente sous la forme d’un seul message : ÉMERGER. Lors de la création et du choix de leurs imprimés, ils se sont mutuellement inspirés avant de se puiser dans différentes cultures africaines, principalement du Nigeria, où Michael est originaire. “Ankara Mauritius, en tant que marque, s’efforce de rendre les gens heureux, confiants et se démarquer de la foule avec notre gamme de produits. La marque ne se contente pas de créer des produits, mais offre une expérience africaine spécialisée avec des histoires que chaque imprimé a à offrir,” explique notre couple. Interrogés sur la possibilité d’une production de masse de ces produits à forte intensité de main-d’œuvre sur l’île, notre couple avance : “Avec plus de deux ans d’activité, nous avons découvert que l’île Maurice aimait notre marque parce que nous sommes atypiques”. Avec un tel succès à Maurice, le couple est déterminé à continuer à flamber et à se déchirer, quelle que soit la puissance de la marque. De plus, notre couple a lancé “Origin Africa” pour le magazine Newstyle. Ils sont plus que convaincus qu’ils peuvent apporter la singularité, principalement à travers les histoires de l’Afrique. “Nous sommes très honorés d’être le porte-drapeau du concept Origin Africa. Nous sommes convaincus d’avoir ce qu’il faut pour partager les histoires passionnantes d’Ankara à travers nos produits. Nous pensons que c’est une idée très prometteuse qui a le potentiel d’explorer la culture africaine d’une manière positive et ce qu’elle peut offrir au peuple mauricien,” expliquent Karen et Michael. Rester fidèle à nos racines africaines, où que nous soyons dans le monde, est le facteur clé de l’africanisme. Un message que les dirigeants d’Ankara apprécient et veulent diffuser au maximum.

INTERVIEW WITH HANS DAX & SAMUEL DAVID FOR ORIGIN AFRICA 1. NEWSTYLE: Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

HANS DAX: I am Hans Dax, 21 years old, international make-up artist and national director of Miss University Africa Mauritius.

SAMUEL DAVID: I am Samuel Alex David, 24 years old. I am a professional hairdresser and visual arts teacher at Clavis School.

2. NEWSTYLE: How come you two are working together? Tell us about your various collaborations.

S.D.: We met in 2016. Hans was about to have his first make-up show and approached me to become a hairdresser so we have always worked together since then because we are both passionate about what we do and we are both genuine perfectionists. We have worked together on a number of projects, featuring all the fashion shows organized by Hans (Strike a Poz, Illumination, Quintessence, Reveal and Enchanted).

3. NEWSTYLE: Tell us about Miss University Africa?

H.D: Miss University Africa is the most prestigious bikini-free beauty contest in Africa and in 2017, I won the Mauritius franchise, naming me the national director and president of the contest in Mauritius. Then I assigned Samuel as Vice President of the competition for Mauritius. This collaboration was a huge surprise as our 2017 Miss University Africa Mauritius representative, Lorriane Nadal, won the 1st International Prize, turning her into the first Mauritian woman to win an international crown. In 2018, Alexandrine Belle-Etoile won the Mauritius title and was ranked in the Top 10 at the international level. We are currently working on the 2019 edition and we do a lot of hard work to ensure that Mauritius can once again shine on the international scene.

4. NEWSTYLE: Thinking about “ Africananism “?

H.D & S.D: For us, this means that we are dealing with an African power where we promote different cultures and traditions while spreading the message that Africa has a lot of potential.

5. NEWSTYLE: Do you think Africa is sufficiently valued in 2019? If not, how/if yes, how?

H.D & S.D: We would say that Africa has made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go to show that we can do better than Europe or Asia. We are confident that this will happen, slowly but surely.

6. NEWSTYLE: What do you think of Newstyle magazine bringing a concept like “Origin Africa” to Mauritius?

H.D & S.D: We think this is an excellent idea because Mauritius is part of Africa and it will be an opportunity to showcase African beauty and the different African cultures.

7. NEWSTYLE: How do you feel about being the official make-up artist and hairdresser of “Origin Africa” for Newstyle Magazine?

H.D & S.D: We feel deeply honored and would like to thank Mr. Sachin Sagar for believing in us. We look forward to working on the first edition of Origin Africa. One thing is guaranteed, it will be lit! (laughs) 8. NEWSTYLE: How do you think you can contribute to this new concept?

H.D & S.D: We would endeavour to represent the different African cultures as best we could through the different make-up and hairstyles, especially the use of colours.

9. NEWSTYLE: Do you think people’s opinions about the “Dark skin” and “afro/curly” models have changed in the modeling industry?

H.D & S.D: Certainly! We worked with many models and many of them stopped relaxing their hair and embraced their natural afro/curly hair. They are often called upon because of their hair. One girl who has achieved a lot in the local modeling industry is Lauriana Babylone. She is a tangible example that African women have a place in the modeling industry and it is always a pleasure to work with her.

10. NEWSTYLE: A word for our Newstylers?

H.D & S.D: Always believe in yourself and love yourself because you are unique!

ENTRETIEN AVEC HANS DAX & SAMUEL DAVID POUR ORIGIN AFRICA 1. NEWSTYLE : Pourriez-vous vous brièvement vous présenter à nos lecteurs ?

HANS DAX : Je suis Hans Dax, 21 ans, maquilleur international et directeur national de Miss University Africa Mauritius.

SAMUEL DAVID : Je suis Samuel Alex David, 24 ans. Je suis coiffeur professionnel et enseignant en arts plastiques à l’école Clavis.

2. NEWSTYLE : Comment se fait-il que vous travailliez ensemble ? Parlez-nous de vos différentes collaborations.

S.D. : Nous nous sommes rencontrés en 2016. Hans était sur le point d’avoir son premier défilé de maquillage et m’a approché pour devenir coiffeur, si bien que depuis nous avons toujours travaillé ensemble car nous sommes tous deux passionnés par notre métier et sommes tous deux de véritables perfectionnistes. Nous avons travaillé ensemble sur de nombreux projets, notamment tous les défilés de mode organisés par Hans (Strike a Poz, Illumination, Quintessence, Reveal et Enchanted).

3. NEWSTYLE : Parlez-nous de Miss University Africa ?

H.D : Miss University Africa est le plus prestigieux concours de beauté sans maillot de bain en Afrique. En 2017, j’ai décroché la franchise Mauricienne et suis devenu le directeur national et président du concours à l’Île Maurice.

J’ai ensuite nommé Samuel au poste de vice-président de la compétition pour l’île Maurice. Cette collaboration a été une grande surprise puisque Lorriane Nadal, notre représentante de Miss Université Afrique Maurice en 2017, a remporté le 1er Prix International, faisant d’elle la première femme mauricienne à remporter une couronne internationale. En 2018, Alexandrine Belle-Etoile remporte le titre mauricien et se classe dans le Top 10 au niveau international. Nous travaillons actuellement sur l’édition 2019 et nous faisons beaucoup d’efforts pour que l’île Maurice puisse à nouveau briller sur la scène internationale.

4. NEWSTYLE : Que pensez-vous de “ l’africanisme “ ?

H.D & S.D : Pour nous, cela signifie que nous avons affaire à une puissance africaine où nous promouvons différentes cultures et traditions tout en diffusant le message que l’Afrique a beaucoup de potentiel.

5. NEWSTYLE : Pensez-vous que l’Afrique est suffisamment valorisée en 2019 ? Si non/ oui, comment ?

H.D & S.D : Nous dirions que l’Afrique a fait beaucoup de progrès, mais il reste encore beaucoup de chemin à parcourir pour montrer que nous pouvons faire mieux que l’Europe ou l’Asie. Nous sommes convaincus que cela se produira, lentement mais sûrement.

6. NEWSTYLE : Que pensez-vous du magazine Newstyle qui apporte un concept comme “Origin Africa” à Maurice ?

H.D & S.D : Nous pensons que c’est une excellente idée car Maurice fait partie de l’Afrique et ce sera l’occasion de mettre en valeur la beauté africaine ainsi que ses différentes cultures.

7. NEWSTYLE : Que ressentez-vous à l’idée d’être le maquilleur et coiffeur officiel de “Origin Africa” pour Newstyle Magazine ?

H.D & S.D : Nous nous sentons profondément honorés et tenons à remercier M. Sachin Sagar de croire en nous. Nous attendons avec impatience de travailler sur la première édition d’Origin Africa. Une chose est garantie, elle sera enflammée ! (rires) 8. NEWSTYLE : Comment pensez-vous pouvoir contribuer à ce nouveau concept ?

H.D & S.D : Nous nous efforcerions de représenter au mieux les différentes cultures africaines à travers les différents maquillages et coiffures, notamment l’utilisation des couleurs.

9. NEWSTYLE : Pensez-vous que l’opinion des gens sur les modèles “Dark skin” et “afro/curly” a changé dans l’industrie de la mode ?

H.D & S.D : Certainement ! Nous avons travaillé avec de nombreux mannequins et beaucoup d’entre elles ont cessé de se défriser les cheveux et ont adopté leurs cheveux naturels afro/bouclés. Ils sont souvent sollicités à cause de leurs cheveux. Lauriana Babylone est une fille qui a beaucoup progressé dans l’industrie locale du mannequinat. Elle est un exemple éloquent que les femmes africaines ont une place dans l’industrie de la mode et c’est toujours un plaisir de travailler avec elle.

INTERVIEW WITH SARA LAGAILLARDE, A SMASHING COMEBACK! Away from the lens and on the podium for a couple of years, she recently made a stunning comeback. Young, proud and determined, Sara Lagaillarde is one of those young women who have “this little something”. Much more than folly! Fully aware of her particularity, she evolves as a stylist and enjoys modeling. If some describe this world as “superficial”, Sara joins those who describe it as rather “sensational”. We invite you to join us to discover her path...

OUR MULTI-TASKED YOUNG LADY Chilled, trendy and cheerful, Sara has, in all goodness, accepted to give us a little of her time for an interview. Voted “Model of the Month” for the April issue of our magazine, it was with a good will that she shared with us her journey in the fashion world. A journey full of glitter but not only!

Spotted at the age of eighteen, at the end of her school years by one of her friends, Sara made her debut, with the latter as a photo model just for fun. With a creative and tailor-made mother who has been working for over 45 years, Sara swam in the world of couture from a very tender age. Having developed a passion for it, she has now taken over the latter’s business as a designer and stylist.

Also working in real estate, Sara explains that it is not always easy to manage all these activities. “All you need is a good planning and you’re done! It is clear that my work will come before photo shoots or fashion shows. » A LUCKY STAR Despite the hardships she encountered on the Mauritian market, the young woman’s determination has not prevented her from obtaining profitable contracts. “Unfortunately, the market is not as large as in New York or Paris.

Mauritius is like a big city but it is a world that still remains closed here. On the other hand, I think it is wonderful that some local agencies are making their models work at the international level’’. She has been able to count on her lucky star and knows that her collaborations for fashion shows or photo shoots have been her blessing.

A blessing that has clearly been meant for her and has definitely immersed her into this universe she loves so much. “The circle remains limited although it is expanding. We have always seen the same faces for a decade while in Mauritius we are lucky to have a beautiful range of gorgeous girls. It’s good to see some new heads, it brings a little freshness and more variety to the visual.

I’m glad I was so lucky. It was a great experience.’’ Very quickly, Sara found herself learning by her own efforts in the field. From the age of eighteen, she began to do photo shoots and runway shows. “I had the chance to be part of the Laurent Bernard boutique and to wear the creations of major French brands. It’s just Phew!” she says.

THE ANGER TO SUCCEED! Modeling is not just about the body. What we learn is also important. To be a model is to express something that stems from oneself without saying a word. Everything passes through the gaze, emotions and gestures that the charge photographer captures, capturing with each “click”. Sara understood it well. Consequently, the adventure did not stop after the shooting for her friend, her various collaborations with photographers and catwalks.

For her, this environment as a whole is “a device” that allows people to express themselves and make themselves known. “A model is a chameleon. It is essential to be able to adapt to the clothes or products for which you are the muse. Just as an actor must adapt to each new role. The most important thing is to know how to take advantage of it while remaining humble and grateful,” she says. Beyond modeling, fashion design or real estate, the young woman devotes her free time to horseback riding and social activities. “I find that there is nothing better in life than being able to help people without expecting anything in return. Be it as a Miss or as a model, it is important to be able to give a part of yourself. “A young woman filled with niaque and love. These qualities are the pride of her family.

It is also on the support of the latter that Sara counts with both eyes closed. h brands. It’s just Ow!” She says.

WE SAY WE’LL MEET IN TEN YEARS...

We wanted to know what her vision of the future would be. As Patrick Bruel sang, we gave her an appointment in ten years’ time. Well, not the same day, not the same time, but we wish her to become a great woman. It is as the director of her own garment line that the young woman projects herself. “I have always encouraged young girls to get started. You have to keep your feet on the ground, believe in yourself and never give up,” she says with conviction. In the meantime, Sara plans to take advantage of the magazine’s title of “Model of the Month”. She also wants to relaunch her modeling career thanks to the exposure.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Newstyle magazine team for choosing me out of three other beautiful models, which I would like to salute. It is obvious that this competition will give me more prominence and it will be a great honor for me to be in front of Sachin Sagar’s camera, but also to have Ashish Rughoobur do my make-up. It is a real pride for me to show that I have collaborated with Team Newstyle. And I wish you all the best for the years to come.” Here is enough to end on beautiful notes.

Absente devant l’objectif et sur le podium pendant un moment, elle a récemment fait un retour fracassant.

Jeune, fière et déterminée, Sara Lagaillarde fait partie de ces jeunes femmes qui ont « ce petit quelque chose ». Bien plus que de la folie ! Totalement consciente de sa particularité, elle évolue en tant que styliste et se plait dans le mannequinat. Si certains qualifient ce monde comme « superficiel », Sara elle rejoint ceux qui le qualifie comme « sensationnel ». Rejoignez-nous pour découvrir son parcours…

NOTRE POLYVALENTE DEMOISELLE Détendue, Fashionista et toute souriante, Sara a, en tout bien, tout honneur accepté de nous donner un peu de son temps le temps d’une entrevue. Élue « Modèle du mois » pour le numéro d’avril de notre magazine, c’est avec de la bonne volonté qu’elle a souhaité se confier à nous concernant son parcours dans le monde de la mode.

Un parcours rempli de paillettes mais pas que ! Repérée à dix-huit ans, à la fin de son année scolaire par une de ses amies, Sara fait ses débuts, avec cette dernière en tant que modèle photo par simple plaisir. Avec une maman créatrice et couturière depuis plus de 45 ans, Sara a, dès sa plus tendre enfance, nagé dans le monde de la mode.

Y ayant prit goût, elle a aujourd’hui reprit l’entreprise de cette dernière en tant que designer et styliste. Travaillant aussi dans l’immobilier, Sara nous explique qu’il n’est pas toujours évident de gérer toutes ces activités. « Il suffit d’avoir un bon planning et le tour est joué ! Il est évident que mon travail passera avant les séances photos ou les défilés. » UNE BONNE ÉTOILE Malgré les difficultés qu’elle a pu rencontrer sur le marché mauricien, la détermination de la jeune femme ne l’a pas empêchée d’obtenir des contrats avantageux pour elle. « Le marché n’est malheureusement pas aussi étendu qu’à new York ou Paris. Maurice est comme une grande ville mais c’est un monde qui reste encore fermé ici. Par contre je trouve formidable que certaines agences locales fassent travailler leurs modèles au niveau international. ».

Elle a su compter sur sa bonne étoile et sait que ses collaborations pour les défilés ou les séances photos ont été sa chance. Une chance qui lui a clairement été destinée et l’a définitivement plongée dans cet univers qu’elle aime tant. « Le cercle reste restreint bien qu’il soit en expansion. Nous voyons toujours les mêmes têtes depuis une décennie alors qu’à Maurice nous avons la chance d’avoir une belle palette de belles filles. Il est bon de voir des nouvelles têtes ca cela apporte un peu de fraîcheur et plus de variété au niveau du visuel. Je suis contente de la chance que j’ai pu avoir. Ce fût de belles expériences. »

Très vite, Sara s’est retrouvée à apprendre d’elle-même sur le terrain. A partir de ses dix-huit ans, elle enchaîne les séances photos et les défilés. « J’ai eu la chance de défiler pour la boutique Laurent Bernard et de porter les créations de grandes marques française. C’est juste Ouf ! » S’exprime-t-elle.

LA RAGE DE RÉUSSIR ! Être mannequin, ce n’est pas seulement une question de physique. Ce que l’on dégage est aussi important. Etre modèle, c’est exprimer quelque chose qui émane de soi sans dire un mot. Tout passe à travers le regard, les émotions et les gestes que le photographe se charge de saisir, de capturer à chaque « clic ». Sara l’a bien compris. Du coup l’aventure ne s’arrête pas après le shooting pour son amie, ses diverses collaborations avec les photographes et les catwalks. Pour elle, ce milieu dans sa globalité est « un appareil » qui permet aux gens de s’exprimer et de se faire connaître. « Un mannequin est un caméléon. Il est essentiel de pouvoir s’adapter aux vêtements ou aux produits dont on est l’égérie. Tout comme un acteur se doit de s’adapter à chaque nouveau rôle. Le plus important et de savoir comment en tirer profit tout en restant humble et reconnaissant.», Soutient-elle. Au-delà du mannequinat, du stylisme ou l’immobilier, la jeune femme consacre son temps libre à l’équitation et au social. « Je trouve qu’il n’y a rien de mieux dans la vie que de pouvoir aider les gens sans rien attendre en retour. Que ce soit en temps que Miss ou modèle, il est important de pouvoir donner une partie de soi. » Une jeune femme remplie de niaque et d’amour. Des qualités qui, d’ailleurs font la fierté de sa famille. C’est d’ailleurs sur le soutien cette dernière que Sara compte les yeux fermés.

ON SE DIT RENDEZ-VOUS DANS DIX ANS… Nous avons souhaité connaitre sa vision de l’avenir.

Comme le chantait Patrick Bruel, nous lui avons donné rendez-vous dans dix ans. Bon, pas le même jour, ni la même heure mais nous lui souhaitons de devenir une grande femme. C’est en tant que directrice de sa propre ligne de vêtements que la jeune femme se projette. « J’ai toujours encouragé les jeunes filles a se lancer. Il faut savoir garder les pieds sur terre, croire en soi et ne jamais baisser les bras », avance-t-elle avec conviction. En attendant, Sara compte bien profiter du titre de « modèle du mois », attribué par le magazine. Elle souhaite, par ce même biais relancer sa carrière de mannequin grâce à la visibilité. « Je tiens premièrement à remercier l’équipe de Newstyle magazine de m’avoir choisi parmi les trois autres magnifiques mannequins que, je salue d’ailleurs. Il est évident que ce concours m’apportera plus de visibilité et ce sera un honneur pour moi d’être devant l’objectif de Sachin Sagar, mais aussi me faire maquiller par Ashish Rughoobur. C’est une fierté pour moi de montrer que j’ai collaboré avec l’équipe Newstyle. Et je vous souhaite le meilleur pour les années à venir. » Voila de quoi terminer sur de belles notes.

A YOGA SESSION WITH ALEXIA LANGLOIS LET’S BREATHE NOW! As part of our ongoing series of interviews with ambassadors from the outside world and discovery, we spoke with Alexia Langlois, a yoga teacher who uses yoga to further expand her horizons. Hearing about her experiences will motivate you to travel, and if you are motivated to experiment Yoga to find your own openings around the world, you will learn more here...

SELF-LOVE Alexia is 27 years old. With a South African mother and a Mauritian father, she was born, raised and educated in Mauritius. Two years ago, she was leading a normal and elementary life until the day she entered a yoga room and caught the virus. After several months of training, she became a yoga teacher. Today, she has found a balance and is free to compose her schedule according to her needs and particularly her desires... computer graphic designer, independent graphic designer for advertising companies and film shoots, she is sheltered in the practice of yoga after long and exhausting days. It was first and foremost for her that she entered this discipline. Wishing to adopt a healthier lifestyle and heal from some of the wounds of the past, Alexia will find in yoga the tools to reconnect with her body and free her mind. A turning point in her life that will help her rediscover herself.

TAKING A STEP BACK...

A retreat in Bali, a premier destination where all energies come together, made her realize the change that this discipline has brought to her life. A discipline that connects the body and mind through a single element: The breath!

Three months later, thanks to the benefits of this activity, Alexia will return to Ubud, Bali, to deepen her knowledge of Hatha and Stand Up Paddle (SUP) yoga teacher training. A so enriching discovery that it will not be possible to miss sharing these benefits with those around her. Today, we are so busy that we sometimes forget to live. It’s a real race against time on a daily basis and a habit of letting life

eat you. For the young woman, yoga is a way to cut herself off from everything, to step back from everyday life and find joy and satisfaction in the present moment. “This change led me to adopt a different lifestyle - I quit smoking and became a vegetarian. Yoga shows me that I am blessed for everything I need right now. It has helped me to become a stronger, calmer, healthier person... It has guided and stimulated me in my life,” she explains. Her preferences in terms of yoga style? Hatha, a slow practice and particularly good for stretching and relaxation.

It helps to calm the mind and body through breathing.

Through Hatha Yoga, our instructor explains that the body feels more relaxed and, at the same time, more energetic.

A plus that now helps her to be more peaceful when dealing with life’s hardships.

“I AM SURRENDERING TO LIFE. » Teaching is much more than just a technical skill. Teaching is above all about sharing...Sharing of one’s own knowledge and experience. Our trainer will agree with us on this point. She admits that she loves to share her passion for yoga with her students so that they feel inspired to practice it and harvest its benefits. “I am friendly and open, and I like to listen to my students and help them feel relaxed and calm after a stressful day at work. I like to believe that the slightest word or sentence I said in my class will change their day or evening for the better.” Her philosophy of yoga is simply to surrender to life. “It is essential to live as much as possible in the present time, not to dwell on the past and to worry about the future.”

YOGA... OVER AND OVER AGAIN! She will be attending a yoga training for cancer patients and survivors in New York in May. She’s looking forward to it. Also on the agenda is the teaching of Hatha Yoga and SUP in Central America for a few months. Finally, a plant training programme and skills in organising wellness retreats. The future is more than promising for Alexia. So much she wants to learn and it is with great enthusiasm that she plans to study, improve her knowledge and gain experience. “As I love to travel, I see myself hosting yoga and wellness retreats all over the world and, of course, in Mauritius. I hope to inspire people and spread my knowledge about yoga and how to be as healthy as possible.”

An adventure that we would like to follow through her...

AIMER SOI-MÊME...

Alexia a 27 ans. Avec une mère sud-africaine et un père mauricien, elle est native de Maurice, y a grandi et y a fait ses études. Il y a deux ans, elle menait une vie normale et élémentaire jusqu’au jour où elle est entrée dans une salle de yoga et a attrapé le virus. Après plusieurs mois de formation, elle est devenue institutrice de yoga. Aujourd’hui, elle a trouvé un équilibre et est libre de composer son emploi du temps en fonction de ses besoins et surtout de ses envies... infographiste, graphiste indépendante pour les boîtes publicitaires et les tournages de films, c’est dans la pratique du yoga qu’elle trouve refuge après de longues journées bien ardues. C’est d’abord et avant tout pour elle qu’elle s’est lancée dans cette discipline. Souhaitant adopter un mode de vie plus sain et guérir de certaines blessures du passé, Alexia trouvera dans le yoga les outils pour se reconnecter avec son corps et libérer son esprit. Un tournant dans sa vie qui l’aidera à se redécouvrir.

PRENDRE DU RECUL...

Une retraite à Bali, destination phare où toutes les énergies se rejoignent, lui a permis de prendre conscience du changement que cette discipline a apporté à sa vie. Une discipline qui relie le physique et le mental par un seul élément : La respiration ! Trois mois plus tard, en raison des avantages de cette pratique, Alexia retournera à Ubud, à Bali, pour approfondir ses connaissances en Hatha et en formation de professeur de yoga Stand Up Paddle (SUP). Une découverte si enrichissante qu’elle ne pourra se passer de partager ces bienfaits avec ceux qui l’entourent. Aujourd’hui, nous sommes tellement occupés que nous oublions parfois de vivre. C’est une véritable course contre la montre au quotidien et une habitude de laisser la vie vous croquer plutôt que de la croquer. Pour la jeune femme, le yoga est une façon de se couper de tout, de

prendre du recul par rapport au quotidien et de trouver joie et satisfaction dans le moment présent. “Ce changement m’a amené à adopter un mode de vie différent - j’ai arrêté de fumer et je suis devenue végétarienne. Le yoga me montre que je suis bénie pour tout ce dont j’ai besoin en ce moment. Il m’a aidé à devenir une personne plus forte, plus calme, plus saine.... Il m’a guidée et stimulée dans ma vie “, explique-t-elle.

Ses préférences en termes de style de yoga ? Le Hatha, une pratique lente et particulièrement bonne pour l’étirement et la relaxation. Il aide à calmer l’esprit et le corps par la respiration. Grâce au Hatha Yoga, notre instructrice explique que le corps se sent plus détendu et, en même temps, plus énergique. Un plus qui l’aide maintenant à être plus calme face aux difficultés de la vie.

“JE ME RENDS À LA VIE. » L’enseignement est bien plus qu’une simple compétence technique. L’enseignement est avant tout un partage... un partage de ses propres connaissances et expériences. Notre formatrice sera d’accord avec nous sur ce point. Elle avoue qu’elle adore partager sa passion pour le yoga avec ses étudiants afin qu’ils se sentent inspirés à le pratiquer et à en récolter les bienfaits. “Je suis amicale et ouverte, et j’aime écouter mes élèves et les aider à se sentir détendus et calmes après une journée stressante au travail.

J’aime à penser que le moindre mot ou la moindre phrase que j’ai dit dans ma classe leur changera la journée ou la soirée pour le mieux.” Sa philosophie du yoga consiste simplement à se rendre à la vie. “Il est essentiel de vivre le plus possible dans le temps présent, de ne pas s’attarder sur le passé et de s’inquiéter de l’avenir.”

YOGA... TOUJOURS ET ENCORE !

En mai, elle suivra une formation de yoga pour les patients et les survivants du cancer à New York. Elle a hâte d’y être. Également à l’ordre du jour, enseignement du Hatha Yoga et du SUP en Amérique Centrale pour quelques mois. Enfin, un programme de formation végétal et des compétences en matière d’organisation de retraites bien-être. L’avenir est plus que prometteur pour Alexia. Tant de choses qu’elle souhaite apprendre et c’est avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme qu’elle compte étudier, améliorer ses connaissances et acquérir de l’expérience. “Comme j’adore voyager, je me vois animer des retraites de yoga et de bien-être partout dans le monde et, bien sûr, à Maurice.

J’espère inspirer les gens et diffuser mes connaissances sur le yoga et comment faire pour être en bonne santé autant que possible.” Une aventure que nous souhaitons suivre à travers elle...
