TheBusinessTravelShow EuropeinLondonhasalwaysbeenthemostproductiveeventoftheyearforcontent andnews.Likeeveryyear, Mission wasthemediapartnerandtookpart inthetwo-dayeventattheendof Junewithateamoffivefromthe editorialandeventsdepartment, whichthisyearpromotedthenew EuropeanMissionAwards .The exhibitionfocusedoncorporate travelsustainabilityandsafety, basedontheISO31030standard ontr avelriskmanagement.Europeantravelmanagersarecompletelyunawareofthisstandard.Asurvey(of141professionals)showed that53percentoftherespondents didnotknowaboutit.However,the sustainableapproachtotravelmanagementwasbetter.
Practicalactions
Lasteditionamongthespeakers was Ford’sglobaltravelmanager StephenSwift ,whoexplained whatpracticalactionshewilltake
thisyeartomakethecompany’s travelprogrammemoresustainable. “Thefirstthingistolookforflights andhotelswithanenvironmental focus.Optingforelectricvehicles whenpossible.Andinthis,our TMCisagreatpartner.ThisisbecauseFordisinvestingheavilyin electricmobility”hesaid.The BusinessTravelSh owinLondon willpublishitsroadmaptozero emissions.Itwilldosobychoosing themostsuitablepartnerstoaccompanyitalongtheway. Travelmanagement companies(TMCs) commitment
TMCsarestartingglobalsustainabilityinitiatives,andthemostinteresting,announcedatBTS2022, concerns sustainableaviationfuel (SAF),thekeytodecarbonising aviation.
Toincreasethespread, American ExpressGbt presentedaSAF “bookandclaim”platform,based onblockchaintechnology.Andit alreadyhasitsfirstcustomer, Aon Greenfuelisatleasttwotoeight timesmoreexpensivethannormal jetfuel. Itisunavailableatallairportsanditsuse,mixedinsmall quantitieswithtraditionalkerosene, isrestrictedto“special”initiatives, Notforeverydayairlineservices. ThatiswhyAmexGbt’sproject withShellandAccentureshows foresight.Especiallyifweknowthe useofgreenaviationfuel cutsCO2 emissionsby80percent. With Avelia (platformname),travel agentsandbusinesstravellerscan contributetothedissemination whilechoosingtheairroutetobe booked.How?Thecustomeropts foraquantityofSAFandevenif thisisunavailableatthatairportof departure,thefuelwillbefedinto anotheraircraftwhererefuellingis possible.Inreturn,itwillreceive sustainability credits ,certifiedby blockchaintechnologyandusable forthecompany’sbalancesheet.

Today,sustainablefuelistheonly viableoptionforreducingaviation emissionsinthesho rttomedium term.
