The students in Stage 1 at Tomaree Public School have received a welcome boost to their ability to be computer literate through the schools Parents and Citizens Association (P&C).

There are 4 Stage 1 classes at Tomaree Public School.

A total of $1200 was raised by the school P&C through a school disco.

Fortunately the disco was held earlier in the year, just before Covid-19 restrictions were introduced.

This supported funds that the P&C were successful in obtaining

Cannabis plants seized FROM Page 1

A MAN faced court on Thursday 27 August after cannabis plants were seized and a hydroponic setup was uncovered in Raymond Terrace on Wednesday 26 August.

Following an investigation by officers attached to the Port Stephens-Hunter Drug Unit into the cultivation of prohibited drugs, investigators executed a crime scene warrant at a home on Sturgeon Street, Raymond Terrace about 11am last Tuesday.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized a dozen mature cannabis plants inside a hydroponic setup, steroids and ammunition. The hydroponic setup was dismantled.

A short time later, a 28-year-old man arrived at the property and was placed under arrest.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with cultivating a prohibited plant, possess prohibited drug and possess ammunition without permit.

He was refused bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court last Thursday.

Bushfire risk greater

THE release of the report of the inquiry into the NSW bushfires will make it even harder to get the fire fuel burnt off, according to longtime local fireman Richard Osborne.

“The government has adopted the 76 recommendations in the 466 page document, but these are a complex web of different requirements to pander to particular interest

groups. This will mean more regulations and mountains of paperwork. It will put an extra burden on the local volunteers,” he said.

Mr Osborne said

extra regulations would make staff retention more difficult.

“The training regimes at the moment consume so much of the volunteers’ time that any more requirements will mean that it will be hard to retain new recruits.

“There were 1967 submissions to the inquiry and 650 of them stated that the failure to burn off the fuel was responsible for the unfightable firestorms. This was the highest type of response received,” he added.

Mr Osborne is now calling for real action to result from the inquiry.

“Local residents just want burnoffs to happen, and they won’t because it will be just too hard to do,” he said.

“Every time there are big fires we get inquiries but nothing gets done.

This time is no different.

We also have a Royal Commission into the fires running at the moment but out in the bush the fuel levels are growing all the time.

Come summer, it will all happen again because burnoffs haven’t reduced the fire fuel during the winter,” he said.

Donna Abraham, Assistant Principal of Tomaree Public School, told News Of The Area, “Computing is an essential skill for all children to learn, and an important part of the curriculum.

“The regular use of computers in a classroom setting is vital in helping young learners to understand the digital world around them.

“As life-long learners the students and staff learn together to consolidate a variety of essential skills to set themselves up for the constantly changing world they live in.

“The increased level of student engagement is evident in classrooms where

technology is used as a tool to assist learning and develop a child’s love of learning,” she said.

A spokesperson for the P&C said, “It’s been a challenging year for the P&C with fundraising amidst the Covid-19 restrictions we have faced, but we are excited to have been able to help deliver this important learning tool to the school students.

“It opens the door for teachers to use a range of online tools and resources within their teaching program, which the children will love.

“The P&C look forward to building on this initial purchase for Stage 1 students and contributing further to the laptop accessibility for all stages across the school.”

Empowering Girls In Sport

By Marian SAMPSON THE SHE Program delivered by the Nelson Bay Hockey Club is reaching out to girls and empowering them, one hockey girl at a time.

The club’s mentoring and confidence program kicked off on the weekend to an eager crowd of girls who had been awaiting the start of the program after delays due to Covid-19.

Roxy Gee Kay is a member of the club and delivered the program.

She told News Of The Area, “We found out that we were successful in getting the funding from the NSW Office of Sport back in the beginning of June, but we were unsure about whether we could go ahead with anything.

“So, we decided to wait until we were sure that what we were doing was going to work with COVID-19 restrictions.”

The club did make some adjustments to the program to allow for physical distancing and group meetings, but in the end they are pleased to have been able to deliver

“We ran a pilot program last season at the club, and had such a great response that we decided to apply for funding so we could build on what we had started.

IN a bid to support the smaller businesses housed at Terrace Central, the shopping centre has created an omni channel platform called Rivershop which gives access to the centres’ food and beverage operators in an online storefront for their customers.

The centre is excited to announce that the pick-up service is now operational and the delivery service will commence next week.

This means for vulnerable residents within the community that they can still enjoy the food and beverages which they once sat down for at the centre in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Riley Pearce of the Panthera Group which manages Terrace Central told News Of The Area, “The delivery service will operate in a 10-15 kilometre radius from the centre.”

The online platform was developed to offer support to all the small businesses in the food sector within the centre, all of which have suffered through COVID-19 restrictions.

The offering has been well received by the tenants as it will potentially assist businesses to keep operating in times when there are less people in the shops and it will

also help keep employees on their books.

The centre has been working hard on delivering for tenants with the new ecommerce strategy, as well as renovating during the pandemic which will see a new children’s playground and outdoor seating area opening in coming months.

The online platform for food and beverages is the start of a growing movement for Terrace Central with the centre planning to offer a complete online shopfront for all the businesses in the centre.

Instead of ordering something online from someone you don’t know, you can order it from the same local business which you have always dealt with and know that your money is keeping locals in jobs.

Mr Grimley told News Of The Area, “Managing blood pressure is the single most important thing – you don’t know what it is until you get it measured.

“For older people knowing if you have an irregular heart rate is also very important as this carries a high risk of stroke from the heart, which is very preventable with blood thinners which are stronger than aspirin.”

He said that strenuous physical activity is a great way to prevent stroke.

“Managing cholesterol levels, and having a good diet healthy with more fresh food including vegetables and fruit which assists with weight issues.

Prevention, knowing and managing risk factors can reduce the risk of stroke.

“Locally John Hunter has an excellent system that is a world leader in acute stroke treatment

research and are leading the way in many things,” he said.

There is good news as Australians are lowering the number of strokes through better management of risk factors in the community.

However there is an increase in younger stroke cases.

“It is important to work to prevent stroke at any age, you can’t wait until you are old.

“The time to do it is when you are young,” said Grimley.

TIA (mini strokes) are warning signs preceding major strokes and Grimley stressed the importance of anyone having symptoms like a stroke, that gets better in a few minutes to see someone straight away don’t wait.

COVID-19 has made life more difficult for many people in the local area, and has highlighted the need for community members to have effective access to key services and community resources.

Diane Ball, the executive director of the Raymond Terrace-based Wahroonga Aboriginal Corporation, has been connecting local Indigenous families and individuals to the services and programs they need during the pandemic.

Since starting her corporation in 1994, Diane has worked tirelessly, and unpaid, advocating for local Aboriginal issues and making sure local people were accessing the support they required and were entitled to.

Diane said her experiences growing up infomed her later choice of career.

“You grow from childhood and you see the struggles. I was always passionate about being a voice, where sometimes our mob doesn’t have that voice,” said Diane.

“I was living and breathing it. The experience of being homeless, going through the struggles, I have been through the things that our mob faces.”

Diane said that often Aboriginal people weren’t aware of the support available to them, or had difficulty accessing it.

“I knock down barriers and support our Indigenous people to better help their lifestyle. For example, I make sure people have access and knowledge of our local Aboriginal health

services,” she said.

Diane also liaises with Government departments to ensure programs are inclusive and accessible to Aboriginal people.

“When I go into consultations with Government or community agencies, I speak about the programs and some of the barriers for people who don’t fit within the guidelines,” she said.

“I always come across barriers for Indigenous people, programs sometimes don’t cater for someone’s individual needs, then when they get this funding from the government, there are still barriers to accessing it. It’s like a revolving door. Then your’re back to square one.”

During COVID-19, the need for Diane’s role has been even greater.

“I hear a lot of people locally not being able to

access services during COVID 19, so I stay in contact with community members, see how they are going.”

Diane says that a onesize-fits-all approach simply does not work with Aboriginal communities, and said that building trust was an important first step.

“When you look at it you have your urban communities, and on the flip side when you go to reserves or missions, they are like a community on their own.

“Basically if they don’t know you they won’t voice their concerns. It’s about going out, introducing yourself, having a yarn. It does take time to build that trust.”

While her work is all done on a volunteer basis, Diane says she finds her role rewarding.

“Yeah I don’t get paid, but when I put a smile on an individual or families face, that’s all the payment I need.”

It’s alleged the motorbike failed to stop and officers initiated a pursuit.

Shortly after, the bike hit a gutter at a roundabout at the intersection of Port Stephens Street and Bourke Street The rider, a 29-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to a serious leg injury.

He remains at the hospital under police guard in a stable condition.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

IN NATIONAL Stroke Week, The Stroke Foundation tells us that strokes are debilitating and for those who have a stroke four in 10 will have repeat strokes.

More than 56,000 strokes will be experienced

by Australians this year, that is one stroke every nine minutes and globally one in four people will have a stroke.

Strokes are preventable, in fact 80% of strokes can be prevented; with research showing that eliminating high blood pressure can reduce incidence of stroke by 48%.

More than 475,000 Australians are living with the effects of stroke.

Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability in Australia.

What you might not know is that around 25 percent of stroke survivors are of working age, and that regional Australians are 19 percent more likely to experience a stroke.

Those living in regional areas are also more likely to die or be left with serious disability because of stroke.

When a stroke strikes, it attacks up to 1.9 million brain cells per minute.

Daffodil Day Brings Hope

DAFFODIL Day like most things looked a little different this year, but the team at Salamander Village Florist are set to break a record with their daffodil sales.

It was a sea of golden petals bringing hope to all, and plenty of locals stopped by to make sure that their donation would go to the cause.

Owner Wendy Martin told News Of The Area, “This is the fourteenth year that we have done Daffodil Day and nearly everyone who comes in has been touched by cancer in some way.”

This year despite the economic climate Wendy has committed to donate the entire $5 per bunch to the Cancer Council.

The team are well on their way to breaking their previous sales record for the event and anticipate 240 daffodil sales meaning Bay locals have dug deep to support the initiative which Wendy runs in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Salamander Bay. The Daffodil Day Appeal is Cancer Council’s most iconic and much-loved fundraising campaign.

It is a day for Australians to come together and donate to

help stop cancer.

The event funds research which is vital to saving lives and finding less harsh cancer treatments.

The money raised this Daffodil Day Appeal will help fund some of the brightest researchers in the country who are dedicated to discovering the next cancer breakthroughs.

For example $100 raised can pay for the collection, storage and analysis of DNA to use in our studies into how we can better prevent cancer.

Where $500 raised Supports a clinical trial of new cancer treatments, giving hope to cancer patients and maybe

even saving lives.

Without clinical trials and your support, new cancer treatments would not be available to patients who need them most.

The daffodil is recognised internationally as the symbol of hope for all people affected by cancer.

The Cancer Council chose it as the emblem as the bright yellow colouring heralds the return of spring, representing new life and growth.

To the Cancer Council, and those affected by cancer, the daffodil represents hope for a cancer free future.

This year, the Daffodil Day Appeal aims to raise more than $2 million for lifesaving cancer research.

THE Raymond Terrace and District Historical Society is being creative in 2020 and asking you to participate by contributing to their time capsule.

You can contribute to the time capsule which will be opened after five years to view the contrasts between now and then.

The historical society is asking the people of Port Stephens to put pen to paper and tell a short story of what 2020 means to us as individuals.

They are also asking for our views on what we would like to

All contributors will be invited to attend the review in 2025 when the time capsule will be reopened.

Writing can be a healing way to deal with situations and to explore feelings.

“Initially the plan was to target the younger generation to examine the change in five years and this has now evolved to include all generations and the wider community.

“Young people’s stories are

just as important.”

Stories should focus on where we have been, where we will go and what we are doing.

“The time capsule will be housed at Sketchley Cottage - it is a grenade box from the archives, and the war reference seemed very apt - we are not at war at the moment but we are at war against the pandemic,” she said.

Run Against Violence Is Back

By Marian SAMPSON RUN against violence is taking off for the third time and there are already teams of runners from the Bay lining up to complete the 1300 km run to raise awareness around domestic violence.

Run Against Violence is a volunteer-based, member association established to use running and other sporting activities as a conduit for engaging the broader community in family violence prevention.

Kirrily Dear, founder of the Run Against Violence, told News Of The Area, “This will be the third virtual challenge, I did the Broken Hill to Sydney run solo in 2017, through dust storms and snow.

“The event engages with the running community to get the broader community involved, get them in with adventure and educate them once we have them there,” she said.

Run Against Violence is on a mission to create

a positive culture within our local communities, to remove the stigma and social barriers that often stop people from talking about their experiences with violence and asking for help when it is needed.

The approach is inclusive.

Run Against Violence believes that anyone can be a target or perpetrator of family violence and that we all have a role to play in prevention.

Whether you run, walk or roll, everyone is welcome.

You don’t have to run too far to be a part of the movement either.

If you have ten people in your team, each member will need to average 6-7km per day to complete the Challenge.

A team of 20 members equates to 3-4km per day per person.

You don’t need to build your own team, you can join one during the registration process.

There are several Port Stephens based teams already registered, jump on line and join in.

I can totally understand you wanting a break from social media, and with the hard time Karens of Australia have had lately, a break makes a lot of sense. Hopefully by the time you return, Bunnings Karen will have been replaced with BCF David or Kmart Kellie and you can put away those name-change documents you’ve been toying with.

The thing is, many of us are old enough to remember LBI, and by that I don’t mean Long Beach Island or Lower Back Injury or Leveraged Buy In, but Life Before Internet.

It was a time when we practiced mindfulness all the time. It was called ‘Mum’s locked me out of the house again’. We sniffed salty air instead of multi-levelmarketing oil blends and we took the occasional dodgy photo rather than having our lives constantly compared to everyone with an ego, a library of filters and twenty different pouts. It was accepted that we could quite happily exist without needing to be stimulated ever 20 seconds. Entertainment consisted of making mixed tapes and the Paddlepop Lick-a-Prize which no one ever won but we did eat our body weight in Paddle Pops every summer.

We’ve lost sight of each other because we are too busy scrolling, and not only are we ending up with dodgy eyes and dodgy necks, but we’re seeing a whole lot of stuff that we probably could survive, and survive well, without. As an experiment, here are a few moments of my social media feed for your entertainment. From the top: Sam Newman is irresponsible. Now I have to find out why. Arrgh, he’s suggesting a protest. Now I’m thinking about protests. Hang on, my friend is having a birthday, which I wouldn’t have known about but for social media; now I have to find the appropriate GIF and so I am scrolling through cats wearing birthday hats, chubby babies dancing, fireworks, my brain is exploding.

Ah, that’s better, a seaside post - rolling waves. No, it’s a travel memory and I’ve remembered the borders are closed and I’m feeling despondent. Hang on, there’s a local fundraiser for a child I don’t know with a disease I’ve never heard of. Now I am Googling the disease and getting out my credit card which is already seriously depleted due to previous donations to rehomed horses and koalas . . . but wait . . . a German hacker has turned sausages into a working piano. Oh wow. Did you know it is Clancy the Labrador’s birthday? I don’t know Clancy; he lives in Florida (nice to know Clancy’s still kicking when over 11,000 people have lost their lives there due to Covid-19 - it’s great dogs can’t get it . . . can they?).

Did I need to know any of that stuff? No. Could I have coped better without it. Probably.

So, Karen, I commend you on your social media hiatus and I think if you and your family just head outside, your brains and bodies will thank you. In fact, I’m going to stop typing and do the same just as soon as I look at this video of a blind cat that can play chopsticks after its owner transformed the piano keys with braille made out repurposed milk bottle lids. Oh, it’s adorable. You should . . . No, don’t do it, Karen.

Stockton Centre Closed

THERE is speculation and concern about the future of the iconic Stockton Centre site and its past residents as the NSW government quietly closed the facility last week.

Kate Washington Member for Port Stephens told News Of The Area, “I was unaware that the centre was closed.”

To date there has been no consultation about the

future of the site which enjoys sweeping views of both the estuary and Stockton Bight.

“They saw COVID-19 as a cover and an opportunity to speed up the process,”.

While the future of the Stockton Centre land is unsure at this stage this is not the case for the Tomaree Lodge site which the government is also working on closing.

During the last election campaign significant pressure

was put on the government after Labor committed to save the site for public use and the Berejiklian Government also committed to have the land that Tomaree Lodge occupies retained for public use and that the site would not be sold off.

A group of local residents and organisations was formed that continue to lobby for the Tomaree Lodge site, membership includes Destination Port Stephens,

Tomaree Business Chamber, and TRRA. Sadly no such pledge was made in relation to the Stockton site.

“During the process of the shutdown the Government have consistently stated that they couldn’t think about the future of the land while they were focusing on the needs of the residents,” she said.

Last week’s closures mean that some of the Hunters’ most vulnerable residents have been evicted from the only home they have ever known.

Washington believes that there needs to be community consultation about the land and she hopes that the residents from the Centre are transitioning well into their new homes.

The Parliamentary Secretary said, “The safe and smooth transfer of people with disability from large residential centres to smaller group homes remains the focus of the Hunter Residences program.

“No decisions will be made on the future of the three sites until all residents have transitioned to their new, contemporary group homes in the community.”

Thunder Touch Ready For Seasonal Strike!

THE Port Hunter Thunder Touch Association (PHTA) is gearing up for the start of their season in October by holding registration days on 3 and 10 September at Yulong Oval, Medowie between the hours of 5pm – 7pm.

Last season saw over 500 players join the association from across the Port Stephens and Hunter regions and organisers are expecting those numbers to increase as COVID-19 restrictions further ease.

PHTA Treasurer Matt Jeffery said the competition caters for all ages from 6 years up to 60 with top level NSW affiliated referees and marshalls trained up in the best COVID-Safe practices to protect participants.

“Although COVID-19 will play a major part in the up and coming season we’re confident that our COVID plan will enable players and spectators to feel safe in the playing environment,” said Matt.

“Our committee has worked tirelessly to ensure that we can get under way and enjoy some great community driven sport.”

PHTA are optimistic that even through these difficult times with COVID-19 that the association will be able to field representative teams when regional clashes occur in the future.

“We are hopeful that we may be able to establish some representative pathways for our junior and senior players to play at high levels in state and regional competitions this year depending on COVID-19,”

said Matt.

Even with local businesses being hit hard during the pandemic there’s been plenty of support to help keep the association moving ahead with their plans.

A little more would help ensure that all teams and players get the finest support and equipment available though.

Quirky Quilters generous gift

THE ‘Quirky Quilters’ are a group of ladies who meet at the old Lemon Tree Passage School site each Friday between 9.30 am and 12 noon.

They have just completed a group project which has resulted in the residents of Tanilba Shores Retirement Village being presented with some 39 single bed quilts and nine knee rugs.

Group member Lynley Keers explains how the project

came together.

“We were given the quilt tops and material by a lady who had been a long time quilter,” she said.

“We then supplied the wadding and backing and put it all together.

“Recently our group presented the finished quilts to Tanilba Shores. The handover had to be outside, as the village is under strict rules due to the COVID 19 threat,” she said.

Accepting the quilts on

behalf of the residents, Admin Officer Michelle Nash was overjoyed.

“What a wonderful gift,” she said.

“It will brighten the lives of our residents and form a bond with this caring group of local ladies.”

Ladies interested in quilting can just turn up at the Old School Site at the times designated to find out more details of the group and its activities.

Stockton Mens Bowling Club format the game is played over 25 ends.

The team of John Fibbins, Steve Blayden and Dick Hadley then applied some pressure to score 12 shots in the remaining ends but it was not enough and the Ric Clark team held on to win by 23-19 shots.

Marauders Fell Griffins

SATURDAY saw the Medowie Marauders come off the back-end of a bye to face the Newcastle Griffins at Boyd Oval where they put the winged lions to the sword 24 to 0.

The Marauders were refreshed and ready to rumble and from the kick-off the forwards put on a masterclass in tightly structured rugby.

Dan Collins and Sam Holbert had the piggies locking the pill up with subsequent phases and in the 5th minute dynamic flanker John Lundie crashed over the chalk after pinching a lineout ball moments earlier.

Captain Eric Tolhurst was accurate with the hoof and the score was 7 nil with the Medowie men looking sharp.

The remainder of the half was hard going for the Marauders with the Griffins muscling up and belting the Boyd Oval locals through the middle with their big boppas.

Medowie was able to sneak another meat pie in before the break and went into the sheds 12 to 0 after Tolhurst missed the kick.

In the second half fly-half Jessey Bridge worked over the tiring Griffins forwards with

his tactical kicking that saw the game begin to open up.

It wasn’t long before the Marauders outside backs got in on the action with the human freight train Orisi Vosuqu busting through multiple defenders for a try in the corner.

The extras were added for a 17 to 0 scoreline and soon after when player-coach Tim Lancaster found a flying Jessey Bridge from the scrum base the game was all over 24 to 0.

Coach Lancaster was extremely happy with the forwards ability to gain metres and praised hooker Dan Collins for leading the charge.

“Best on the field today was big Dan Collins who was exceptional with his go forward, leadership and dominance at the set pieces,” said Lancaster.

“I thought the kicking game of Jessey Bridge was also crucial in maintaining pressure and territory.”

The Marauders face the Pokolbin Reds on Saturday at Boyd Oval in a possible precursor to the finals.

Kick-off at 3pm with full canteen and can bar facilities available.

Boardriders Back On!

SUNDAY saw the first competition back since the pandemonium of COVID-19 for the Bay Area Boardriders with clean 3ft peaks producing highly contestable conditions at Morna.

13-year-old young gun Eden Hasson was scorching in the COVID-Safe comp taking out the Open and Under 18’s divisions by consistently linking high scoring heats to take dual titles.

Backhand or forehand the little pocket rocket Hasson was ensuring there was plenty of water moving off his rails as he progressed with ease through the early rounds.

Jasmine Sampson, who has competed previously in the Women’s WSL Port Stephens Pro, made it to the Open final finishing in fourth and proved she’s one of the areas better surfers on her day.

Boardriders’ Committeeman Mark

Buchanan said that even though there was a smaller than usual turnout for the first event back it was a great day watching some young rippers tear the bag.

“The first comp back saw some awesome weather and good clean 3ft surf at Birubi,” said Buchanan.

“It was a hard paddle out, but there was some really good surfing going on with a standout being 13-year-old Hasson.”

Buchanan was impressed with the all competitors, but admitted Hasson was unbeatable on the day.

“He stepped up in the 18’s and Opens and won them both, it was a pretty high scoring Open’s final but Hasson was on fire!”

In the Under 14’s Jimmi Hill took 1st with Ava Plummer in 2nd.

Under 16’s saw Jimmi back it up again taking the top gong, Taj Turner took 2nd, Isaac Sullivan 3rd and Randle

Swan 3rd and Rod Astley was 4th.

The veterans in the Over 50’s saw the immortal Dean Shaw take a humble gold over the water wizard Harry Royal.

Opens saw Eden Hasson in 1st Place, Nelson Corner 2nd, Mark Buchanan 3rd, Jasmine Sampson in 4th with Jye Astley 5th.

Raymond Terrace 0 - 24 Stroud. THE girls played a tough game against Stroud on the weekend, unfortunately going down 24-0. The girls didn’t bring their a-game this week making a few too many mistakes. However they continued to play with pride and enjoyed every second.

Players player this week went to Lauren Brien, followed closely behind by Maddy Marquet, Jaz Hostler and Kayla Campbell.

The girls fought extremely hard to have the scores locked at 8-8 at half time.

Some heavy contact in defence and amazing tries were scored by both teams, with Waratah getting a string of possession and going on to win 36-14.

Players player for the Magpies was Janarra Piva, scoring one of the best length of the field tries ever seen. Best forward was Sarsha Venables, with strong defence as always.

Best back was Tasmyn Fellows, running the length to score in the second half.

Coaches award went to Kayla Campbell, who was strong at the back in defence and added two try assists in attack. The girls are building every week and are looking set for a semi finals birth.

Dean Handsaker directed our defence around the ruck and was vocal all game.

It’s always a great local derby when the Magpies and Raiders clash because we are both clubs that have a lot of passion and heart with a never give up attitude.

THE Marauder Women’s 10s team have stunned Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union (NHRU) heavyweights the Wanderers in their first victory of their rugby careers 53 to 27 at Boyd Oval.

It has been a testing year for the Medowie women who have been working tirelessly towards a win in a challenging 2020 climate.

The women were never going to be outdone by their Marauder male counterparts who later in the day overcame the Griffins 24 to 0 last Saturday.

10s Captain Kiara Shelton was electric in the win over the Wanderers crossing the line four times to lead the way for the Marauders.

The Medowie women ended up crossing the line a dozen times in total with all players getting a taste of the prescribed white line fever.

Coach Michael Able had always believed the team was capable of much more than they deserved against their opposing NHRU teams.

“The girls’ constancy and effort at training is starting to see them develop and gel as a team,” said Abel.

“This win has ignited a spark within them.”

The Medowie women face Maitland at Boyd Oval this Saturday at 1:30pm before the men take on Pokolbin at 3pm.
