q Investigations are underway after nine forest red gum eucalypts planted as part of Council’s Shoal Bay Foreshore Upgrade project were poisoned in an act of vandalism.

THE revitalisation of the Shoal Bay foreshore has certainly made more seating available in shaded areas. Sadly, some people with little vision for the space and a lack of regard for public property have taken it upon themselves to poison the newly planted trees. Shade trees are planted to create positive spaces for families and reduce temperatures on the grassed areas and assist in the reduction of coastal erosion. Trees also provide habitat for our wildlife and if Port Stephens is to remain ‘incredible by nature’ we need to enhance the environment for all species that are endemic to the region. Port Stephens Council Mayor Ryan Palmer said that nine of the red gum trees that were planted
