More than 70 additional general practices across the North Coast will also join the vaccination program, taking the total number of participating practices in the region to more than 110, alongside the six Commonwealth vaccination clinics, such as the one at Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

Nambucca Respiratory Clinic and Macksville’s Star Clinic were the only practices in the Valley offering the Pfizer vaccine and wait times for an appointment were about two months at the time of writing, however new appointments are being added as stock is delivered each week.

The names of the new

practices offering the Pfizer vaccine will be uploaded onto the government’s vaccine eligibility checker over the coming weeks.

Healthy North Coast Wellness Executive Director Monika Wheeler said demand for the Pfizer vaccine is currently outstripping supply in communities across New South Wales but that the situation was “just temporary”.

“It all comes back to the national stockpile.

“We just don’t have the vaccines we need yet,” she said, adding that the increased supply and new general practices joining the rollout over the next couple of months will ease the problem.

“Hope is on its way.

“Everyone who wants [the Pfizer vaccine] will be able to get it.”

The Mid North Coast has “really embraced the vaccines” and uptake across the region is slightly higher than the

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the annual awards play an important role in recognising inspirational women from diverse backgrounds in NSW. “These awards are all about celebrating women who are standing up and standing out in their communities and setting a wonderful example for everyone around them,” Mrs Taylor said.

There are so many women from all walks of life who are spearheading positive change and inspiring others to do the same right across the state.

Categories for the 2022 Awards include the Women of Excellence, Aboriginal Woman of the Year, Aware Super NSW Community

Hero of the Year, Young Woman of the Year and Regional Woman of the Year.

The One to Watch Award, which recognises girls aged seven to 17 who supported others through acts of courage, strength, determination or kindness is in its second year.

End to Homeschool in Sight

By Sandra MOON PARENTS who have struggled to keep the work-home balance and students who have been isolated from friends and forced into remote learning will be overjoyed at the announcement of a return to school plan this week from the NSW Premier.

Ms Gladys Berejiklian has announced a staggered return to school for NSW from October.

The announcement also included that HSC exams will be delayed until November and vaccinations for school staff will be mandatory.

The School Plan by the

Department of Education aims to ensure a safe return for staff and students for faceto-face learning while Stay At Home orders are still in place.

The staggered return will begin on Monday 25 October with kindergarten and Year 1.

They will be followed byYear 2, 6 and 11 on 1 November and Year 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 on 8 November.

Year 12 students are already able to return in a limited way and this will continue for the remainder of Term 3.

From 25 October, Year 12 will have full time access to school campuses and their teachers.

If stay at home orders are lifted in an LGA or region before 25 October, all

students living or learning in that area will return to face to face learning under the Department’s COVID-safe schools framework.

If cases in certain LGAs increase significantly, learning from home will resume for that LGA until case numbers drop.

HSC exams will be delayed until 9 November with a revised timetable and guidelines for a COVID-safe HSC to be released by NESA in early September.

Importantly, the delay of the HSC exams will not disadvantage NSW students when applying to university.

Vaccinations for all school staff across all sectors will be mandatory from 8 November.

Biodiversity Strategy Concerns

CONCERNED locals have described a draft Biodiversity Strategy that is currently available for viewing and public feedback on Kempsey Shire Council’s Your Say Macleay website as “full of feel-good platitudes” but lacking in practical and measurable steps to protect the region’s flora and fauna.

“Council could be proactive in protecting and restoring habitat for rare species.

“For example, work with the State Biodiversity Conservation Trust to acquire wetland areas within the Shire to protect bird species such as the critically endangered Eastern Curlew mentioned in the draft strategy,” local environmental scientist Michael Jones said.

“Platypus numbers along the Macleay River and at Five Day Creek have plummeted and Council could take action

to protect and enhance habitat for this iconic species at relatively low cost.

“Effort could be made to encourage more landowners to enter conservation agreements for land of high conservation value.”

The draft strategy mentions future mapping of wetlands and forest vegetation, which Jones said “would provide more work for Council staff” but is “unnecessary as adequate mapping has already been undertaken”.

Another interested and concerned local, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the draft strategy “has no teeth”.

Two pages of detailed notes that the local resident has submitted to council as suggested inclusions or amendments to the draft include: adopting recommendations laid out in state

biodiversity acts and planning policies; adding greater acknowledgement of cultural heritage and Indigenous land management principles; committing to action items around Dunghutti community engagement, employment and consultation; and creating measurable targets for ecological communities and a timeline for reporting and reviewing achieved goals.

Kempsey Shire Council Environmental Planning Officer Megan Jones said the vision for the strategy is to manage biodiversity values in Kempsey Shire for current and future generations.

“The strategy sets a clear direction for managing local biodiversity, drawing on the key biodiversity concepts of ‘protect’, ‘maintain’, ‘restore’ and ‘connect’.

“Once adopted by Council, the strategy will guide Council’s actions and decision making and help coordinate environmental planning responses with

the state government,” she said.

“The Biodiversity Strategy sets out Council’s biodiversity priorities, the actions we will take, timeframes and required funding.

“Among the key priorities with a real and lasting impact are: biodiversity values and threats to those values are identified, spatial information is generated for use in future land use planning, and biodiversity knowledge is available to support decision making.”

Council considered the results of the 2019 community survey on the Biodiversity Strategy Discussion Paper and formal submissions from the community while drafting the strategy, Jones said.

Additional formal submissions made by the community before the September 13 deadline will be considered and used to update the draft strategy before it’s presented to Council for

adoption.

“Once the strategy is approved by Council, its actions will be integrated into Council’s fouryear Delivery Program and implemented in practical steps through our annual Operational Plan,” Jones said, adding that the document is one of many actions Kempsey Shire Council is taking to address climate change, sustainability, environmental management and biodiversity.

“As well as the Biodiversity Strategy, we’re engaging with the community on a number of strategies under Council’s Your Future Environment policy suite.

“These policies will help inform the development of Council’s upcoming 20-year plan.”

The draft Biodiversity Strategy will be available for public viewing and community feedback via Kempsey Shire Council’s Your Say Macleay website until September 13.

Mask wearing rules in Regional NSW

When mask wearing outdoors became mandatory in Regional NSW there was some initial lack of clarity around the rules.

Some community members were stopped whilst out walking for exercise by police.

On these occasions police reportedly stated that masks need to be worn for outdoor walking.

Local Gumbaynggirr/Dunghetti woman Ms June Rimer is one local

who experienced this on her daily morning walk.

“I was heading back from my daily early morning walk when the police pulled over, and demanded to know where my mask was.

“I showed them my mask to let them know that I was carrying it with me, as is mandated.

“The police were very aggressive in their nature, and I had a feeling that the situation could escalate.

“I was clearly exercising, and had my exercise clothes on.”

News Of The Area has investigated the rules around mask wearing and exercising.

The NSW directive is very clear.

In Regional NSW, the strenuous exercise rule that exists in the 12 LGAs of concern does not apply.

For Valley residents, physical exercise is a reason to remove a mask.

In the daily press conference delivered on Sunday 22 August 2021, NSW Policy Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said, in response to being asked about walking, “In terms of exercising, people do not have to wear a mask.

“Where you are exercising in a place where there are crowds of people or where you think you will end up in a situation where people will be close by, it is just common sense that you would put that mask on."

News Of The Area spoke to Detective Chief Inspector Darren Jameson, following Ms Riemer’s experience, regarding walking for physical exercise and mask wearing.

THE new Food Swap + Share stand opposite the preschool on Valla Beach Road is lovingly operated by Aria, who is “five and three-quarters” – with a little help from her three-year-old sister, Audrey, and parents, Anna and Danny Saunders.

Part of the grassroots Grow Free movement, which promotes

the growing and sharing of food and plants, the stand is a space for people to give and take items such as fresh produce, plants and homemade preserves, although Aria has also enjoyed giving and receiving some more unexpected items, such as toys, flowers and shells.

Aria said her family was inspired to create the stand about a week into the statewide lockdown because

“some people don’t really have much food or toys”.

“My dad [made it] and I helped him a little bit, putting the shelves on,” Aria said, adding that the first items to go into it were the lemons and limes from the trees in her garden because “we had so much”, along with some grapefruits and passion fruits.

Checking the stand to see what people are giving and taking has become a highlight for Aria.

“I check it about 10 times a day,” she said.

Some favourite finds have included fresh snow peas – “Audrey ate all of them” – bunches of mint with the roots still on, which Audry and Aria planted in the garden, and flowers and a note from Aria’s friend Zachery, whom she hasn’t been able to see during lockdown.

Jameson, in consultation with NSW Police Operational Legal, advised News Of The Area that, “A face covering, i.e. a mask, is not required if someone is engaging in physical exercise.

“Physical exercise is an activity that develops or maintains physical fitness and overall health.

“The key there is physical fitness and overall health.

“So if you are legitimately out there performing some sort of physical exercise then you have nothing to worry about.

“You don’t have to wear a mask.

“A casual stroll, which is a form of low level exercise, means that a mask must be worn.”

Jameson went on to tell News Of The Area, “It is not just about issuing

tickets.

“It is about identifying people who are not complying with the orders.

“It is about looking after us so that we stay safe.

“If you are doing the right thing you have nothing to fear.”

In Regional NSW there are several reasons that a mask can be removed, these items can be found under ‘Exemptions’ in ‘Face Mask Rules’ in the Regional and Rural NSW section.

This can be found at nsw.gov.au.

Lawful reasons for not wearing a mask are also listed, for example physical or intellectual disabilities.

The NSW Government website states, “Please be respectful to people who are not wearing a mask as the reasons for not wearing a mask are not always visible or obvious.”

Free headspace mental health education webinars

HEADSPACE National Youth Mental Health Foundation is hosting a free mental health education session online for NSW’s Mid North Coast on Monday 6 September 2021.

Emma Mabin, Mental Health Education Consultant for headspace, told News Of The Area, “This is a NSW Department of Health funded initiative that is part of a targeted suicide prevention piece of work

that was announced by Minister Bronnie Taylor on 15 November 2020.”

This session is open for parents/carers of youth and will offer ways to support them if there is concern about the mental health of youth in their care.

Locals back National Forest Statement

By Andrew VIVIAN A NUMBER of local conservation groups are amongst more than 60 nationally that are signatories to the Australian Forest Network Position Statement.

The groups call on Federal and State Governments to immediately stop logging and all other destructive activities in public native forests.

Their reasons are not new: that climate change and biodiversity loss hastens the extinction of species, particularly since the 2019/2020 bushfires in eastern Australia.

Scientists and economists around the world are calling for immediate and far-reaching action to address climate

change and biodiversity loss.

One action that has strong support from experts, as well as overwhelming community support, is to stop the logging of native forests.

Australia's native forests are ecologically unique and provide invaluable benefits to our society.

The benefits to society from healthy native forests are said to include carbon storage, water supply, erosion control, pollination, nutrient recycling and biodiversity.

As well, native forests are culturally, economically and spiritually significant to First Nations Peoples and provide Australians with recreational and spiritual benefits.

They point out that a significant area of Australia’s native forest is on public land, which means it is directly under the responsibility and management of governments

In addition, the statement asks for an end to public subsidies across the logging industry, a ban on the use of native forest wood as biomass for electricity generation and investment in ecologicallysensitive farm forestry plantings for biodiversity and timber.

Illegal dumping at Stuarts Point

LOCALS say illegal dumping is becoming a large problem in the idyllic hamlet of Stuarts Point.

Tranquil walking trails are being marred by local rubbish being dumped instead of taken to Kempsey Shire Council Waste Management Centres.

News Of The Area spoke with Karyn Martin, who has owned a home in Stuarts Point for the last 13 years and has now retired to the town permanently with her husband.

“I’ve been really disappointed with the rubbish that’s dumped on the walking trails,” she said.

“You can see that some of the items have been here for a long time.”

There are lots of residents that clean up items such as paper, bottles, and other dropped rubbish from trails as they walk.

However Karyn would like to see the larger items removed like building waste, toilets, drums, and car parts.

“I’ve been able to source about eight people who are willing to help with the removal of larger items with utes and trailers.

“We were hoping Kempsey Council could help us with reduced or free vouchers to Council sites to dump rubbish collected.”

News Of The Area contacted Kempsey Shire Council in regards to the illegal dumping,

and the proposal of free access to waste sites.

Giles Hardie, Kempsey Shire Council said, “Kempsey Council takes illegal dumping very seriously and we are aware it is a significant issue in Stuarts Point.

“The dumping on Stuarts Point bush tracks will be investigated by our Rangers as the first concern, and determine how this occurred and prevent future dumping.

“Council would love to support and offer reduced or free waste disposal rates on a case-by-case basis.

“However, there are a large number of factors to take into account including quantity, type of waste and potential inclusion of materials that could harm the volunteers or need specialised treatment, such as asbestos,” said Giles.

Nominations for 2022 Rural Women’s Award Open

R U OK? Day is on Thursday 9 September 2021.

The message this year is ‘Are they really ok? Ask them today’.

This message is a response to research that has found that 22% of Australians are not asking if people are okay because they feel that they feel they don’t know anyone that needs their help.

CEO of R U OK? Katherine Newton said, “R U OK? is encouraging all Australians to pause and consider how the

people in their world are really going, and to make asking ‘Are you ok?’ a part of their everyday."

The national day of action strives to remind everyone about the importance of checking in with each other, and checking that all is okay.

Newton said, “We want to emphasise that an R U OK? conversation is not only for when someone is visibly distressed or in crisis and remind everyone that their support can make a difference for anyone who is struggling.”

During these unusual COVID times, where catching

up with family and friends is restricted, the message of R U OK? is important.

It may be as simple as phoning a friend or neighbour to ask if they are okay.

Celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day STRONGER educational outcomes are being celebrated across NSW on Indigenous Literacy Day (September 1), with schools participating in this years’ theme - Celebrating Stories and Language.

The annual celebration will feature Aboriginal languages, stories and culture as a reminder of the importance of a connection to language, heritage and literacy for Aboriginal communities.

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the NSW

Government was committed to lifting Aboriginal educational outcomes and helping students to achieve their full potential through a number of programs focused on language and culture.

“We know that when Aboriginal students are connected to their language and culture and feel supported by their community, their educational outcomes improve,” Ms Mitchell said.

“That’s why the NSW Government continues to roll out a number of Aboriginal

initiatives, such as the Connected Communities Strategy, Ninganah No More and the Aboriginal Early Childhood Education strategy.

That stronger connection has helped lift results in

reading for many Year 3 Aboriginal students over the last decade, with 25.3 per cent placed in the top two NAPLAN bands in 2019.

HSC Delayed Again

“I THINK it’s very impractical as we won’t get our HSC results back until the time universities give out offers.

“I don’t think we will even go back to school to be honest.”

Those are the words of Nambucca Valley student Eden Kenny, one of many HSC students across the region displeased at the latest information released by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) regarding HSC timetables.

Last Friday, Sarah Mitchell, the NSW Minister for Education, announced HSC exams were to be pushed back to a starting date of 9 November.

“Due to COVID, we have been getting less time to efficiently prepare for our HSC with our teachers and this has made some students feel not as prepared as they would like to be,” said Nambucca Valley HSC student Tracy Nguyen on the changed date.

“The HSC extension is better for us to further plan and take action on how to tackle the impact of COVID on our learning and studying before the finals.

“As the virus has affected our last few weeks of school, I feel it is fair to gain that preparation back in the extension of the HSC.” This is not the first time these critical exams have had their date changed.

This year’s exams were originally slated to commence on October 19, before being pushed back one week to October 26, then again to the most recent date.

Last year saw the exams pushed back five days from October 15 to October 20.

All of these delays have one thing in common: pandemic conditions.

Nambucca Valley students say the uncertainty over HSC exams is adding extra stress to an infamously daunting period of a young person’s life.

to push back the exams has not taken into account the detriment it will cause to the mental health of students across the Valley and the state,” remarked Nambucca Valley HSC student Lillah Hoffman.

“Of course I want to complete the HSC, but without it compromising my mental and physical well-being.

“Currently my school is not open to students and the only access I have to my teachers is through email or classroom.”

Lillah’s latter remarks showcase the challenges Valley students are facing with online learning.

However, that should soon come to an end when the final term of the school year comes around, with the rest of the current term of Term 3 being undertaken remotely.

October 25 will see kindergarten and year 1 students back at school, November 1 will see years 2, 6 and 11 return to the classrooms, while November 8 will see the remainder of students back on site.

While the return to the classroom is something to look forward to, Valley students are seeking certainty on exam timetables going forward.

“This ‘solution’ isn’t sustainable,” said Lillah.

“What happens if there is another outbreak?

“How far back are they going to push the exams?

“Instead of trying to force the HSC to happen, they should be looking at what can be done alternatively if there are viable alternatives,” suggested Lillah.

“This approach will benefit students more than anything, allowing us to show our abilities outside the constraints of a test.

“Essentially we will be able to devote our time to showcasing our capabilities instead of failing to study.

“Why is the government so against giving an estimate?

“If their only goal is to see us succeed then they’re not good at showing it.”

Coast region.

“We’re asking local residents to tell us about their health and the health services where they live,” said Healthy North Coast Chief Executive Officer Julie Sturgess.

“We’d love people to have their say and help us understand what’s working and what’s not when it comes to health on the North Coast.”

The Speak Up health survey is conducted every three years, and Healthy North Coast points to increased funding and new resources for people dealing with mental health, alcohol and drug issues as an example of actions taken following the 2018 survey, which had highlighted difficulties around accessing treatment.

This included funding for

Connect to Wellbeing, a new one-stop shop designed to help people find support for mental health, alcohol and drugs issues.

“Having a community voice at the centre of healthcare planning and decision making is essential in achieving better health on the North Coast,” Sturgess said.

WITH the Clubhouse closed because of COVID, thanks to Gary Clarke and Dave Poole using their technicians skills the Tony and Susan Adams sponsored single stableford was able to be played with over 50 playing in groups of two.

After two weeks with no

golf there were some good scores.

Nine players had net sub par rounds.

Allan Clarke playing off scratch (0 handicap) had a two under par 70 and Mike Simpson playing off 3 parred the course to beat Allan by a shot.

Second runner up was junior Gus Single whose game

is rapidly improving.

His big hitting and some putting practice will see him challenging top players before long.

Saturday 4 September will see the final round of the Club championships.

Because of Covid restrictions presentations will have to be deferred.

Going into the final round Allan Clarke has a big lead in the A grade gross with Max Graham and Mick Manning shading him in the net.

The B grade looks to be between Mike O'Brien and Jeff Gore with the C grade having Greg Zirkler, Jim Katsoolas and Noel Austin all tied up.

Ian Vidler (16) was the winner of Division one (scratch to 16) with 38 points from Philip Mander (14) with 37 points. There was a countback in Division two (17 to 22) with Kevin Mulhall and Trent Baade both scoring 41 points, Kevin winning with the better back 9.

In Division three, (23 to 45), Neil Duffus (23) top scored for the whole week with 44 points to win from Jamie Lucas (29) with 43 points on countback from Colin Dunne (26).

HYPOTHETICAL Taking a Legal Look

Claim on missing person’s estate WENDY marries Harry.

She has a daughter to a previous relationship, Penny, who lives with her father overseas.

Six months after the marriage, Wendy and Harry purchase a home together as joint tenants.

Wendy frequently writes to Penny and sends her gifts.

Wendy also makes arrangements for Penny to migrate to Australia.

Six months later, Wendy withdraws $1000 from her bank account and asks her neighbour to drop her off at the bus stop with a suitcase.

All communication with Penny stops.

A further six months pass and Harry contacts the police, stating that he has made every effort to contact Wendy and that he does not know what has happened to her.

Shortly thereafter, one of their family friends reports Wendy as a missing person.

Medicare records indicate that Wendy’s card had not been used since her disappearance. Wendy’s bank accounts had not been accessed and there is no record of her as a ‘customer’ of Centrelink.

The police make further ‘meticulous’ investigations and 10 years pass.

Penny makes an application to the Court, seeking an order that the ‘presumption of death’ applies because more than seven years have elapsed since Wendy was seen alive.

After carefully considering the evidence, the Court declares that although Wendy’s body had not been discovered, on presumption of death, she is no longer alive.

The Court appoints an independent solicitor to administer her estate on the basis that Wendy did not leave a will.

Penny then makes a family provision claim against the estate, seeking an order that half of the jointly owned home be made available to make provision for her.

She is successful in obtaining a substantial out-of-court settlement.

I AM writing in support of the views of Marlene Griffin’s concerns (‘Library Concerns’, News of The Area, Pg9, August 12 Edition) in relation to the Extension Project Plans for Nambucca Library.

As Marlene mentions, there are significant public safety issues arising from the present design plans which need to be further explored and the public made aware of.

The present design plans for the lower floor area is to be a library meeting room accessible by a staircase and lift.

Red Cross Emergency Ready Week: 20-27 September (COVID restrictions permitting) During this week Red Cross will be providing information for residents who were impacted by the floods in Nambucca Heads via letter drops with details on ‘Protect what matters’ and ‘Are you ready for an Emergency?’

During this week, our Red Cross Teahouse in Bowra Street, will be opening their doors to

people who simply want a chat over tea or coffee.

Support Much of NSW has been through many challenges from fires to floods.

Thanks to generous financial support from the public, Red Cross has been able to assist 40,107 on their recovery journey.

At the local level, we have provided support at the Macksville Recovery Centre this year to 1,173 people who have passed through the doors seeking support and assistance.

The centre was a true testimony to the commitment of many agencies over an 11-week period of duration.

Just when we thought some type of normality was back, we were faced with COVID-19.

Support by Red Cross has previously been provided to those who have been in quarantine and currently we are assisting temporary visa holders accessing Emergency Relief through the MSS (Migrant Support Services) program.

Damage to Taylors Arm Rd

DEAR News Of The Area,

Firstly congratulations on Nambucca Valley News Of The Area, it’s great having our own local paper and your team are doing a great job.

I live at Congarinni about 800m from the start of the damage to Taylors Arm Rd, which is approximately 3km out of Macksville.

On 25 February this year a large tree on the bank of the Taylors Arm river fell into the water, its root system lifted the tar road and formed a crater which almost reaches the centre line in the road.

Council put a barrier around the damage and installed traffic lights.

A number of other trees were leaning over the water and Council had them removed.

This is great space use, but there is a Fire and Safety issue in using this area as meeting rooms.

There is no provision for external exits or regress in the event a fire evacuation situation or any other emergency particularly for the disabled.

These plans need further consideration before any building work starts or there will be problems and liabilities down the track for future library users and library staff.

This lower floor area would effectively be a fire trap, with the staircase,

the only exit for staff and visitors to evacuate by.

A lift is not usually to be used as a fire escape and may well in an emergency be out of action.

The area outside of this basement is a small yard with railings around and a steep drop from here leads to the rainforest which has a disused old pathway.

The narrow and inadequate pathway is not trafficable for people with disabilities, the path eventually leads to the steep staircase at the back of the post office, exiting to Frazer Street.

Consequently anyone ‘trapped’ in this area of the library would have no way out to a safe assembly point.

After the March flood, when the road was under water for three days, the damage has become far more extensive as four or five other areas of the bank have now collapsed.

This is a tidal river with regular boat traffic, this movement of water constantly eroding the bank, who knows how far under the road the erosion goes.

Taylors Arm Rd is Macksville’s major tourist road going out to the Pub with no Beer, so this damage is concerning.

No information has been given out

by Council so I have recently had some communication with them.

I knew Council had recently received over $3mil from the Roads to Recovery program so expected to hear a possible starting date for the work.

I was told that Taylors Arm Rd was Council’s number one priority but there were difficulties.

The job has to go out to tender, obviously.

Because of the March flood event with damage to so much of the Mid North Coast, now Government recovery money is available, all the contractors are busy.

In the light of difficulties Council predicts the road repairs could take two years.

I find that unacceptable and obviously Council needs additional assistance to get this important local road back into a safe condition.

This information has not been made public nor any comment about the flood damage.

This is an issue the community could get behind to let powers that be know that all is not well in our little region.

On the weekend, I was flicking through social media. My husband was doing his 'essential exercise' with the dog. As I was mindlessly scrolling, a 'found dog' post turned up. I read the post because it was an adorable looking dog, and in fact very similar in looks to my own dog.

On closer inspection the dog had the same identifying white patch on its chest and I realised with horror that it was my dog.

I was about to respond when the writer said the owner had been found. On his return, I asked how the walk went and he said it was lovely. No mention of the missing dog!

Is this the start of a web of deceit?

They are like the Esme Watsons of former times, who used to peer out of their blinds and report all the strange goings on in the neighbourhood.

Now, though, they are splashed all over social media where every Tom, Dick and Harry can have their two-bobs' worth (gee this response is overloaded with vernacular - it may be due to the cheap hair dye that is currently seeping into my brain since everyone is now a DIY hairdresser).

Anyway, I think I'd let this one slide.

He was probably gazing out at the ocean, nostalgic for pre-Covid days, and the dog got sick of his moping and wandered off.

Much more difficult to handle than a curious dog are the unsolicited responses on social media to innocent posts.

No doubt it was full of things like: 'He shouldn't even have a dog if he can't keep an eye on it' and 'Unfortunately we noticed a lot of dog poo on the ground recently which we can't blame tourists for anymore' and 'two poofy-looking dogs and a real one were on the beach yesterday but I couldn't catch them', none of which related to your dog, but then had you in a spin about everyone else's problems including your own (since resolved) ones.

You did ask how the walk was, and his answer that 'it was lovely' was not a lie, but perhaps the (less criminal) judicious use of omission. You could add a tracker to his phone, but do you really want to know where he is every minute of the day, when 90 per cent of the time he's in the house?

Curling up on the couch and tuning in to Rosehaven, we’ve all surely fantasised about moving to the fictional small town in Tassie and living a relatively uncomplicated life surrounded by pristine nature – and a handful of local shops, for good measure. Creators, writers and stars Celia Pacquola (pictured) and Luke McGregor have crafted witty and warm characters and situations which feel almost timeless, hinging on the relationship between best friends Daniel and Emma.

As this final season unfolds, it’s bittersweet. Tonight, Daniel and Emma are forced to get creative to sell a property, without revealing where it is to potential buyers. Barbara (Kris McQuade) also shares some big news.

The TV-watching show phenomenon, which has had 15 different offshoots around the world, returns tonight for its 14th Australian season. Fans have lapped up the TV-talk spectacle for the past six years, but there’s obviously something special about the fly-on-the-wall doco slash comedy when old stars decide to make a triumphant return after calling it quits. In tonight’s season premiere, fan favourites and original TV aficionados, Adam and Symon, take their seats back at the couch for their unique analysis and reactions to the past week’s TV shows. Mick and Di, as well as Lee (pictured above) and Keith return, with some families, including the Silberys, participating via Zoom.

THIS year’s Tooheys New Group 2 Rugby League first grade season has been one

Grafton Ghosts: The 2019 premiers continued their excellent form in 2021, winning this year’s first

grade minor premiership with 10 wins from 15 games.

After starting the season at 1-4 and languishing last on the ladder, the Comets turned their season around with a seven-game winning run helping them finish second on the first grade ladder.

The Comets Ladies League Tag side was arguably the best in any Group 2 competition, putting together a magnificent undefeated season as a dominant minor premier.

The Comets reserve grade side also remain in premiership contention having won their recent elimination semi-final.

Macksville Sea Eagles: An up and down season for the Sea Eagles reflected in the fact they started the season with four straight wins followed by five straight losses, and then winning four of their last six matches of the season to finish third on the first grade ladder.

The clubs under 18’s produced a strong season finishing as minor premiers, while their reserves finished third.

South Grafton Rebels: The dark horse of the first grade competition.

The Rebels have taken some big scalps this year including all the top 3 teams and the Sea Eagles in two of their three meetings.

The Rebels also won this year’s reserve grade minor premiership with 9 wins and 3 draws from 15 games.

Bellingen Valley/ Dorrigo Magpies: The big improvers of the 2021 season.

After just one win in 2019, the Magpies finished this year's first-grade season with 6 wins and a finals berth.

The Magpies’ Ladies League Tag remain the biggest premiership threat to the Comets after finishing second on the ladder and losing by 4 and 2 points in two of their meetings this season.

Woolgoolga Seahorses: An enigma of season 2021.

Their best saw them beat three of the top four teams including the minor premiers by a point, but couldn’t reproduce this week to week with lack of consistency their downfall.

Fared a lot better in the reserves with the Seahorses finishing in second spot.
