Remembering the Manusu Brothers By Mick BIRTLES EACH April, as ANZAC Day approaches, the nation reflects with a sense of sorrow on the sacrifices made in war. For some families the loss is almost unthinkable and that is how it was for the Manusu family of Bowraville during the Second World War. At the time war broke out there were seven children in this family. Percy Manusu, the third oldest, would enlist in 1940 and two of his brothers, Perry, the second eldest, and Guy, the fifth born, enlisted together six months later. Although all three Manusu boys would serve in the Middle East, they were spared the worst of it and their Brigade, the 16th, headed back south when Japan entered the war.
