By Karen GRIBBIN HIGH Street, Bowraville was alive with locals and visitors on Saturday 11 December for the Bowraville Christmas Markets.

Sunshine was an added bonus to the day’s festivities making the markets an all-round crowd pleaser.

Stalls consisted of homegrown local produce, and delicacies including fruit, vegetables, and seasonal herbs.

Stallholders Tom and Gill Kenay are a mother and son team.

Tom looks after the produce and Gill looks after the plants.

“Bowraville is always a great market,” said Tom.

Oysters on the menu this Christmas RESIDENTS are urged to put locallygrown oysters on their Christmas table this year and support an industry that has been hit hard recently.

NSW Farmers Oyster Committee Chair Todd Graham said the industry was still grappling with the impacts of bushfires, floods, and a COVID-19 induced downturn in hospitality and tourism.

“A seafood Christmas is a favourite for a lot of Aussies, so having some oysters is a no-brainer,” Mr Graham said.

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel for the oyster industry, and we look forward to finding some semblance of normalcy.

“In the meantime, we really encourage Aussies to make oysters part of their Christmas festivities and show some love for our industry.”

Mr Graham said coastal flooding events at the start and end of the year were a big hit for the oyster industry, with producers experiencing major losses to infrastructure and produce.

“The flooding events compounded the impacts of earlier challenges, including the devastating 2019/2020 summer bushfires and the loss of revenue streams over two COVID-19 lockdowns,” Mr Graham said.

And, of course, what would Christmas be without Santa, who was doing a roaring trade with the littlies, and the young at heart.

Proceeds from the markets help run the Bowraville Pioneer Community Centre (BPCC).

Covid-19 restriction has made it hard for the BPCC to run the markets on a regular basis.

Macksville High School closed after Covid-19 case MACKSVILLE High School was announced as non-operational on Tuesday morning after a member of the school community tested positive for COVID-19.

Principal Linda McGregor said the school would be closed to the on-site attendance of students and staff to allow time for contact tracing.

All staff and students were asked to self-

isolate until receiving further advice.

NSW Health requested that anyone within the school community who has been unwell or has developed any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics.

“The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times.

“As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to.

“While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community,” said Principal McGregor.

Covid restrictions ease for all

By Emma DARBIN THE day many Covid-19 unvaccinated people have been waiting for is finally here, with Wednesday 15 December marking an easing of restrictions for all members of the community.

Covid-19 restrictions will be further eased on 15 December or once NSW reaches the 95% double vaccination rate for the Covid-19 virus.

Under the new easing of restrictions there will be no density limits for all settings, Covid safety plans will be optional for businesses, and employers can now allow staff to work from home at their discretion.

For all members of the community, including the unvaccinated, masks will only be required on public transport and planes, at airports and for indoor front-of-house hospitality staff who are not fully vaccinated.

(Masks will still be encouraged in settings where you cannot social distance) Masks will no longer be required in outdoor settings, and Covid-19 safe check-ins will only be required for hospitals, aged and disability care facilities, gyms, places of worship, funerals or memorial services,

personal services, pubs, smalls bars and registered clubs, nightclubs and indoor music festivals with more than 1,000 people.

There will be no limit on the number of visitors in your home, no limit on the number of people at outdoor public gatherings, and all visitors to residents in aged care facilities and disability homes will be permitted in line with venue policies.

In terms of exercise and recreation, there will be no limit on the number of people in gyms, indoor recreation and sporting facilities, indoor swimming pools will open for all purposes, and community sport will be permitted for all staff, spectators and participants.

Unvaccinated community members will be allowed to re-enter all non-critical retail outlets, and there will be no limit on clients for personal services (hairdressers, spas, beauty and nail salons, tattoo and massage parlours).

There will be no limit on the number of people at hospitality venues, singing and dancing will be permitted indoors and outdoors for all, and drinking indoors and outdoors can now occur when seated or standing.

There will be no limit on the number of people at major recreation facilities including stadiums, theme parks and race courses, no person

limit for entertainment facilities including cinemas and theatres, no person limit for information and education facilities (art galleries, museums, libraries), no person limit for outdoor public gatherings and recreation, music festivals can now operate with a 20,000 person limit, amusement centres and play centres will be open to all, and proof of vaccination will only be required for indoor music festivals with more than 1,000 people and cruises with over 100 passengers.

Weddings and funerals can now be held with no limit on the number of people attending, singing and dancing will be permitted indoors by all, and places of worship will be open to all.

Transport between Greater Sydney and regional NSW is now permitted for all, carpooling is permitted for all, and caravan parks and camping grounds will open for all, including people who are not fully vaccinated.

International travellers who are fully vaccinated no longer need to quarantine on arrival, however they must do a PCR test and have a certified vaccination status.

International travellers who are not fully vaccinated still need to quarantine on arrival in Australia for 14 days.

North Coast Vax Rate

HEALTHY North Coast Chief Executive Julie Sturgess says North Coast residents’ timing couldn’t be better, with regional rates for double dose vaccinations now ahead of the national average rate as we head into the holiday season.

“With school holidays upon us and visitor numbers increasing week by week, the North Coast community has continued to follow through on the incredible first dose rates we saw last month.

92.6% of residents aged 16 and over have now received their second dose,” Ms Sturgess said.

“The North Coast is ahead of the national rate of 88.1% and on par with the state rate of 92.8%.

“Individually, nearly all our local government areas are fast approaching or have exceeded a 95% double dose rate.

This is a terrific effort and a real testament to the North Coast community spirit. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff working in general practice, pharmacy, Aboriginal medical services and other primary care providers who went above and beyond to ensure

our community was protected from the worst of COVID-19,” Ms Sturgess said.

Ms Sturgess also said this was the last week that Healthy North Coast would be releasing vaccination numbers.

“It has been fantastic to see the numbers come through week by week and to share the good news with the North Coast community.

“After reaching the 95% threshold, though, detailed vaccination statistics are not available for the final 5%, so we will wrap up our reporting on these rates this week,” Ms Sturgess said.

“I still encourage parents and carers to consider vaccination of our younger residents in the 12-to-15-year age group and also to follow the standard health advice to minimise the risk of transmission.

“It's fantastic to end on such a high. Well done, North Coast!”

La Casa Gen Health and school holiday activities at the Youthie

By Rachel MCGREGORALLEN GENHEALTH have changed their service name to La Casa Youth Group.

After entering the competition to rename the service, two young people from the Valley, Oceana and Eyla, were successful and La Casa was chosen.

La Casa means ‘The home’ representing a safe place for young people to come and feel safe and welcome where they can express who they are.

Oceana said, “Eyla suggested the name because it means home, a safe space to be if you need help.

“And that’s how the Youthie feels.”

Eyla’s inspiration comes from her Latin-American heritage, and she speaks Spanish.

Both girls have been attending the Art Group at the Youthie held every Tuesday afternoon after school, and see art as being a good way to express themselves.

They say the Youthie is a safe, inclusive space to do this in.

As the Nambucca Youthie Facebook page states, “We embrace diversity, positivity and community here at La Casa.”

During the upcoming holidays the Nambucca Youthie and La Casa

GenHealth have plans to welcome youth into the space and provide some much needed entertainment.

Five new Covid-19 cases in the Nambucca Valley

THERE were eight new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District in the 24-hours to 8pm, 14 December.

Five cases are from the Nambucca Valley Local Government Area (LGA) and there is one case each from the Port Macquarie-Hastings, Kempsey and Coffs Harbour LGAs. Five of the cases are household contacts of a confirmed case, two are linked to a known case or cluster and the source of the infection of one case is under investigation.

This follows three new cases

in the Nambucca Valley in the 24 hours leading up to 8pm on Monday, 13 December.

There have been 596 cases reported in the District since the beginning of the current NSW outbreak.

Please get vaccinated to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 and keep coming forward for testing if you experience any symptoms.

Risk Of Purchasing Dangerous Toys

By Marian SAMPSON CHRISTMAS is the time for giving, and we all love to spoil our little ones at this time of year.

However consumers are being warned to be cautious and ensure that toys are safe and age appropriate.

The NSW Government is reminding parents and grandparents to exercise caution when buying toys and other children's gifts this Christmas.

Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation Kevin Anderson said that leading into the Christmas period, it is important shoppers are aware of the risks of purchasing dangerous toys.

“It is fantastic to see Australians embracing the Christmas spirit

and many of us looking forward to being reunited with our friends and families after months of separation, but it is important that we celebrate the festive season as safely as possible,” Mr Anderson said.

“Retailers have a responsibility to ensure their products do not cause injury to children, but not every retailer plays by the rules so we need to exercise caution when purchasing gifts for our loved ones.”

Since 2019, NSW Fair Trading has received 388 complaints relating to unsafe toys.

Of those, 279, or 72 percent, related to toys bought online.

"When shopping for Christmas toys and gifts online this year, purchasers need to take a minute to think about whether or not this toy could pose a hazard to their little ones,” Mr Anderson said.

“Each year we see a range of toys that are dangerous or inappropriate, from things that can shoot, choke,

According to child safety organisation Kidsafe, “In Australia, around 20 children per week are admitted to hospital because they have ingested a button battery and children aged 0-5 years are particularly vulnerable.

“If a child swallows a button battery; even a used one, it can burn through soft tissue in just two hours causing horrendous internal injuries and even cause death.

“The NSW Government is working to ensure these toys never reach the market, and if they do, it is important that consumers are educated enough not to give them to kids where they could become lethal.”

Some of the toys that have been confiscated this year and are scheduled to be destroyed include: a penguin cigarette lighter; toy guns

and other toys with choking hazard projectiles or easily removable small parts; sponge toys with extendable string pieces that are strangling hazards; magnet toys with choking hazard small magnet balls; a ‘crown hat’ decoration with flammable plastic leaves; battery operated toys with easily openable battery cavities, giving children easy access to choking hazard batteries; a battery operated toy duck that lays choking hazard plastic eggs; and small ‘pen’ batteries that are a choking hazard.

There are simple steps consumers can take to ensure the gifts they buy are safe.

Do your research before buying Christmas toys and make sure they are compliant, safe, and age appropriate.

Consumers who have inadvertently bought an unsafe toy are entitled to a refund and are able to report businesses for unsafe toys.

If they are unable to resolve the problem with the shop, they can lodge a complaint with NSW Fair Trading.

Mr Anderson said the NSW Government routinely visits businesses to check product safety.

“Earlier this year we issued a fine after inspectors found choking hazards and flammable pyjamas at a toy shop in Cabramatta.

“We also seized and destroyed the dangerous stock,” Mr Anderson said.

“To everyone out there shopping for toys, have a very Merry Christmas but do take a minute to consider the toys you are buying and let’s keep our kids safe.”

1. ON 5/12/21 Police attended a residence in Way Way where a 58-year-old man was issued a criminal infringement for the offence of shoplifting, following investigations related to the theft of items from a Macksville business on 7/11/21.

Rural Crime Prevention Team receive ISSRC award THE NSW Police Force Rural Crime Prevention Team has been awarded the 2021 ISSRC Policy, Practice and Engagement Award.

The International Society for the Study of Rural Crime (ISSRC) is made up of scholars, students and practitioners from around

the world with an interest in research aimed at reducing crime in all its forms in rural areas.

The ISSRC launched its annual awards program in 2020, offering awards in three categories: The Joseph F. Donnermeyer New Scholar Award, The ISSRC Research Student Award and The ISSRC Policy,

Practice and Engagement Award.

State Rural Crime Coordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Whiteside said that the team are humbled by the award which highlights the NSW Police Force’s commitment to tackling rural crime.

Bleed4Blue Campaign launches

THE NSW Police Force are rolling up their sleeves for 2021’s ‘Bleed4Blue’ blood drive.

‘Bleed4Blue’ is an annual, three-month law enforcement-focused blood drive that was launched in 2018 following the stabbing of Detective Sergeant John Breda at Maroubra on Australia Day 2018.

Now in its fourth year, NSWPF has launched

Operation ‘Bleed4Blue’ with employees, family, friends and the community encouraged to visit a Lifeblood donor centre across the state to donate lifesaving blood products.

In addition to the summer drive, NSWPF will be attempting to break the record for the number of donations in a single day.

The highest donation total recorded by a Lifeblood Team in a single day in Australia is 230 successful donations.

Lifeblood Centres have

thrown their support behind the challenge, turning their centres blue, wearing blue clothes, and even serving blue refreshments to donors.

Saving lives is part of the job for officers, explains Assistant Commissioner Steve Hegarty who helped launch today’s challenge and is urging police to take part.

“We take our police operations very seriously, and this blood drive is no different,” said Assistant Commissioner Hegarty.

The Bleed4Blue drive is run in partnership with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood and was established after Det Sgt John Breda lost almost twelve litres of blood when he was stabbed during a police operation.

The medical team used more than 100 bags of blood to keep him alive, including 48 bags in one six-hour surgery.

Each week, Lifeblood requires 31,000 donations to meet demand which is at a

Mice support extended into 2022

By Tara CAMPBELL THE NSW Government has announced that the mice bait rebates for farmers, small businesses and households have been extended into 2022, while primary producers will now be able to make multiple claims for zinc phosphide purchases, up to the $10,000 cap.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the changes ensured the mice bait rebates would benefit those in the bush who need it most ahead of a potential post-harvest surge.

“The reports we are getting indicate mice numbers are down, but we can’t be complacent, which

“Under the changes, households and small businesses will have until 31

January to claim up to $500 or $1,000 respectively to help meet the cost of mice baits, traps and cleaning materials bought after 1 February 2021.

“Primary producers, who can claim up to $10,000 in zinc phosphide based bait rebates, will also have until 31 January next year to claim.

“This change means farmers can better protect crops from any resurgence in mice numbers.

“More than 52,500 households and 6,500 small businesses have taken advantage of this rebate worth more than $31 million so please get your applications in,” Mr Toole said.

Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said the primary producer rebates had proven very successful so far, and were critical in helping keep numbers down.

“Now is not the time for farmers to be doing paperwork, they should instead be focused on managing their properties through harvest and rain events,” Mr Marshall said.

“Farmers did the right thing and baited with zinc phosphide early, ahead of the

current harvest, and they will now be able to make multiple claims up to the $10,000 cap and get cash flow support sooner.

“The experts are also telling us, although the number of mice has reduced, it is critical to make this harvest as clean as possible to reduce available food and shelter – which is why we’ve extended the deadline for applications.”

Mr Marshall said the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) had so far approved more than 800 rebates worth $5.5 million.

“We continue to work closely with bait manufacturers to ensure there is enough zinc phosphide concentrate available to produce the bait farmers need to protect harvest,” Mr Marshall said.

The first challenge was called ‘An Apple A Day’, which challenged followers to throw an apple from screen to screen, from person to person, country to country.

The challenge was a huge success, with 110+ entertainers from seven different countries globally participating.

Another successful campaign was the Arts Awareness Collaboration video named ‘If 2020 was a flight’ where Bustar invited artists to strip bare to illustrate they had been ‘stripped bare’ from their work.

Bustar said that nothing

could have prepared him for the heavy price the Australian arts community would pay with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic has affected every aspect of the arts and entertainment sector, everyone from shoemakers for production shows, to lighting designers, to circus performers.

“Entertainment must live on and we must stand to get our industry back on the road.

“There are so many entertainers (and other industries) who have had to step into other jobs to just financially get through this situation.

“This industry needs a voice,” James said.

Bustar is pleased with the recent news from Create NSW who have announced Round 1 of its 2021/22 Arts and Cultural Funding Program, which will share $9.37 million amongst 198 recipients.

“This is a step in the right direction and I hope that this funding will help struggling artists in NSW,” he said.

Nambucca bands play Summer Dreams NAMBUCCA Valley bands are playing the Summer Dreams Festival in Bellingen Showgrounds this weekend.

The all-ages event starts on Friday 17 December at 1:30pm, going through to 11:30pm, before kicking off again on Saturday 18 December at 9am, playing through to 11:30pm.

Uncle Gary Williams will be leading the traditional Welcome to Country at 4:30pm for the Opening Ceremony.

“The not to be missed ceremony is followed by Little Big Tree, a new collective by Gomileroi man Kauri MunroGreentree who grew up in the area,” Ahva Dub, the Director of event organisers UMBL Music, told News Of The Area.

be painted up and will serve you some good old Aboriginal rock and roll.

“Samba Soul, the local Brazilian style high energy drum group will follow OKA on the big stage.

“In fact, there are 120 local artists performing at Summer Dreams and ten amazing guest artists.”

Nambucca Valley's new youth band Ready Set Go have been practicing hard at the Macksville Music Station and will play on the first day at 2pm.

Saturday is also full of local Nambucca Valley talent and starts off with a yoga session by Crystal Rose.

Later on in the day Kaya Boom will take to the stage with his soulful and groovy roots band.

A highlight of the festival will be Uncle Michael 'Micklo' Jarret's act Gunganbuwala, which has gone from a Gumbaynggirr choir to a 10-piece band.

Early Christmas gift for Macksville Men’s Shed THE Coalition Government is providing an early Christmas present by announcing $4,442 to continue to support the health of men through the National Shed Development Programme (NSDP).

Pat Conaghan Federal Member for Cowper welcomed the decision by the Federal Government to award both the Macksville Men’s Shed and Doongang Mob in Port Macquarie the additional funding they required.

The Doongang Mob will use the funding for additional tools and equipment, including a new Band Saw, while the Macksville Men’s Shed will be using the funds to purchase Air Room Filters to improve the air-quality of the workshop area.

“Men’s Sheds play a vital role in preventing social isolation and mental ill health.

“They offer thousands of men of all ages a safe and friendly environment where they can work on meaningful projects while building strong social connections,”

Mr Conaghan said.

“Since 2013, the Coalition Government has provided more than $6.4 million to support Men’s Sheds through the programme.”

The Government also took action to help alleviate social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic by prioritising applications for IT equipment and training, which helps to maintain friendships and connection to shed projects and reduces social isolation.

Minister for Regional Health, Dr David Gillespie, said the Government awards grants to Men’s Sheds in three categories – health and wellbeing events, shed improvements, and tools and equipment.

“Many Sheds were forced to close their doors this year due to the pandemic, however that didn’t stop the shed community from staying connected.

“Coordinators made sure their members felt valued and part of a strong, positive community during such a difficult time,” Dr Gillespie

Grumpy’s gazette was left by himself while my PA and general dog's body had an unpaid two week break.

In that time the Mixed Pairs Semi-finals and Final were started, postponed, washed out and finished over

On the weekend of the 4 and 5 December the teams of Pat Fletcher and Graham Hunt played Nerida and Mark Blackford and Michelle Fredericks and Mick Ellison took on Gloria Richardson and Tony Stokes.

Due to a bucket load of rain falling Saturday afternoon

only 9 ends could be played.

Hoping to play on Sunday, Hughy sent down the rain and that day was washed out.

This left a nervous bowls Organizer Mike Boyle only two playing days left before the Presentation Day and one of those was taken up by the Xmas Triples.

So on Saturday 11 the combatants were all on the green early to finish the 9 ends remaining.

In front of a small crowd great bowls were played with Graham and Pat defeating Mark and Nerida 19 -16.

The other game was 17 all with one end to play with Mick and Michelle picking up a five to win 22 -17.

The Final was played that afternoon and red hot

The addition of the Sawtell Panthers, Orara Valley Axemen, and the Nambucca Roosters will make it a nineclub competition in 2022.

The Sawtell Panthers and Orara Valley Axemen will reenter the competition after

not being a part of the 2021 season, while the Nambucca Roosters will make a return to Group 2 for the first time since 2018.

The Roosters bid to re-enter the Group 2 competition was successful after a meeting with the Group 2 board.

Roosters officials met with the Board of Group 2 to submit a complete, revised nomination proposal which met NSWRL criteria required for clubs in competitions.

All nine clubs nominated teams for the four Group 2 competitions in 2022.

Club delegates from Group

2 will meet in early March to confirm their respective team entries and a draw will be published in accordance with the team numbers.

Three clubs in next year's Group 2 competition will feature former NRL players in some capacity.

Former Maroons and

South Sydney superstar Greg Inglis will play for the Macksville Sea Eagles, while his fellow Souths premiership player Sam Burgess will coach the Orara Valley Axemen.

Former NRL player Clint Greenshields will coach the Sawtell Panthers as he returns to guide his former club.

Well done to everyone who competed regularly in this challenge and a huge thank you to Toyota Service Advantage for their generous sponsorship of this Open event.

Saturday 11 December was the annual Ham & Turkey Day 4BBB Stableford sponsored as always by Club Champion, Greg McCoy – thank you Greg.

Desma Hughes advised that the recently coached ‘newly recruited’ ladies have been playing Sunday practice rounds, before entering the competitions.

Due to this interest Desma plans to arrange further coaching classes in the New Year.

Each year at Christmas my family gives ridiculous numbers of cheap gifts I don’t need or use. Is it rude to re-gift and how can I get them to change?

JOHNNY, child of Nancy and Donald Carpenter, was a much loved and very spoilt only child.

During the year Johnny turned 19, his parents had been encouraged by his strong academic results and told him that if he kept it up, he would definitely be on Santa’s good list.

It was the night before Christmas, and Nancy and Donald gave Johnny a very special Christmas card that said, “Johnny, you have been such a good boy and worked so hard at university, we are giving you this special gift.”

Inside the card was the key to the family holiday house.

Nancy and Donald promptly organised the transfer of the property into Johnny’s name and paid the stamp duty.

One month later, Nancy discovers her credit card is overdrawn due to a large number of unusual transactions.

These transactions are traced to dark web academic websites.

Oh dear, it turns out that Johnny has been purchasing assignments online to pass his studies. Johnny was, in fact, a cheat.

Nancy and Donald are infuriated.

They march up to Johnny’s room, and shout, “We are taking back the holiday house.

“You were not on Santa’s good list.

You have been a bad boy, Johnny.”

In Court, Johnny relies on “the presumption of advancement”, arguing that the house was an absolute gift to him from parent to child and that he has no obligation to return the gift.

Nancy and Donald argue that the house was gifted on the condition that Johnny was a good boy, and as it was found Johnny had not fulfilled this condition, and in fact, Johnny had been a bad boy, then the gift must be returned.

The parties agree to attend a courtordered mediation to resolve the family differences.

Nancy cancels her credit card.

THANK you good people of Macksville for supporting the CWA Street Stall on Thursday 18 November.

Tables laden with home made jams, pickles, cakes and slices raised $910, the Raffle raised $197, and the trading table with plants, jewellery, homemade pieces, pet rocks, cook books and tea towels and odds and sods raised $713. All going towards the fund to update our (very old) original kitchen at headquarters, 31 Princess Street.

Funny anecdotes include Phyllis’s ‘Mushroom Cakes’ selling out immediately to

one buyer, who can’t get enough of them.

I hear you. I really do. You know, I think this problem started with the proliferation of shops with words like Reject and $2 in their business name. Now anyone walking through the doors of a place that promotes itself as being not only cheap and nasty, but also inadequate, faulty and a haven for people tighter than a fish’s arsehole wouldn’t expect crowds rushing through the doors, would they? And yet, people come in droves.

They come to buy gifts that show how much they care - plastic snow domes, low voltage inflatable Santas, microbead sparkle butter, artificial Birds of Paradise, reindeer antlers for your pooch (complete with choking-hazard bells), solar powered plastic pigs, plastic guns firing plastic projectiles guaranteed to have you at the Emergency Department quicker than Mum can say, ‘The Turducken is overcooked’ and on it goes.

How much do these gift-givers care? I hate to be a Grinch, Mr PM, but they don’t care a lot.

Not a lot about you and not a lot about the planet that will be inheriting all that landfill during the post-Christmas garbage run.

You know, I really think with the bushfires we’ve had burning our already parched land, people losing their homes, wildlife needing care, and not a lot of rain on the horizon to ease things, that this year more than any, we need to be giving things that actually have meaning. Why not adopt a koala or buy an experience like theatre tickets so you can enjoy time together as a family, or maybe make up a hamper for people doing it tough.

These are gifts that will keep on giving long after the event. It is, of course, okay to re-gift presents, but if they are cheap and nasty, who would want them anyway? Lead by example, Mr PM, because thoughtful actions can make a huge difference.

There’s no shortage of festive viewing options this holiday season, but a rom-com this cute and heartwarming could never be on the naughty list. Directed

by Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (above) plays Kate, a wannabe singer whose various misfortunes have led to a job in a year-round Christmas store. When she meets Tom (Henry Golding, Crazy Rich Asians), a handsome young man who brings out the best in her, things start to look up. Taking its title from the Wham! song, the film is inspired by the music of George Michael.

Before you wonder where you’ll get your garden inspiration and nature fix from after the team packs up the shovels and seeds tonight for another year, settle in for an abundance of Christmas cheer and savvy, creative garden ideas.

Presenter Costa Georgiadis (right) perpetually exudes a festive cheer and here, he dons Santa’s red hat in an episode jam-packed with Yuletide joy. Costa visits Jimmy and Jane Barnes at their country home, while Jerry ColebyWilliams explores fragrant frangipani. WET weather at the start of the week and some King Tides restricted the use of Carts and Scooters to the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club cart path network – thanks to all who observed this requirement in order to preserve our spongy fairways.

Tuesday’ 7 December was a Medley Stableford was won

by Nambucca Newsagent’s Stephen Kimber (16) with 42 points from the in-form Graham Watson (9) with 36 points.

Other good scores from Stuart Garvey 36, Jeffrey Vanderwyk 35 and Keith Elphick 34, with the ball rundown to 32 points.

Wednesday 8 December was the Women’s Christmas Party and Presentation Day with a 9 Hole Stableford 3 Club and putter event – a fun day with the ladies in their best Christmas attire,

decorated Golf Carts and lots of bubbly to keep everyone happy.

Division 1 (scratch to 25) was won by Glenys Thompson (13) on countback from Women’s Champion Sue Brooks (12) - both with 15 points.
