By John SAHYOUN THE Bulla Artists Gallery, which is breathing new life into recycled materials, has recently opened its doors to the public.

Operated by Joseph Barbera, the contemporary artist describes the gallery’s collection as “art, sculptures and oddities”.

Joseph told News Of The Area, the use of salvaged materials in both the art works and construction of the gallery itself, makes it unique.

“The whole building is done from recycled materials, the furniture I have built, the

Hardest hit were the areas of Dunedoo, Coolah and Cassilis where the cost has been enormous.

The bushfires in February burnt out over 52,000 hectares of land, which is roughly twice the size of Newcastle.

Pip Sullivan, a regular visitor to the Myall, got together with Hawks Nest Golf Club Manager Richard Simmer and the Tea Gardens Country Club to pass the yellow bucket around. $1,500 was raised and local businesses also donated prizes for a raffle.

“The money and donations were much appreciated and it is mind blowing the help and support we’ve received,” Joy Beams, co-ordinator of Country Women’s Association Appeal said.

Eighty-five volunteers are still working in the area, replacing fencing and doing whatever they can to get the area back

on its feet.

Mr Campbell claimed he was owed a debt by Austar Finance. He issued a Statutory Demand to wind it up. Austar commenced Court proceedings to set aside the Demand. Its solicitor ‘served’ the Court documents both by facsimile and by email. The evidence showed there was a problem with the facsimile transmission and the Court was not satisfied that the documents had been served by fax.

Email The next issue was, therefore, whether the documents had been ‘served’ by email. That involved technical evidence about how emails are transmitted, and how and where they are stored.

Austar’s technical expert said that the email would have been received by Mr Campbell, and sitting in his in box, within 5 minutes of being sent.

The Court did not accept that evidence.

Because of the way Mr Campbell’s email account was hosted, the Court was not satisfied that any email serving Court

documents was actually received by him (as opposed to his email hosting service) within the timeframe required. It decided the documents had not been ‘served’ - which meant that Austar’s case was dismissed.

Lessons If there is doubt, for example whether the email is on the addressee’s computer, or whether it might actually be on the email host service server (with just a link telling the addressee an email had been transmitted) that may not be enough. If Court documents are served either by facsimile or email it must be shown they have actually been received in a readable form by the person to be served So, if you need to serve Court documents, we suggest that unless you get an actual acknowledgement of receipt of a facsimile or email, it is prudent to also serve the documents personally or by post, where possible, to ensure you can prove they have been ‘received’. If you can’t prove this, the consequences could be fatal to any application: Austar Finance Group Pty Ltd v Campbell [2007] NSWSC 1493

Kirra-lea donates her locks

KIRRA-LEA Rooney donated over 45 cms of her long, straight, blonde hair to charity last week to be made into a wig for young cancer patients.

But simply donating her ponytail wasn’t enough for the thoughtful six-year-old, who also raised over $1,000 for Variety – the Children’s Charity along the way.

The youngster’s selfless act attracted the attention of Prime News who arrived at Razors Edge Hair Studio in Bulahdelah to film the golden locks being chopped off.

“I don’t know why everyone was making a such big fuss about me having my hair cut,” Kirra-Lea told News Of The Area.

“All I was doing was helping some sick girls by giving them some of my hair.”

In front of her proud parents Melissa and David, brother Braydan and extended family, hairdresser Renee Ballantine snipped the long locks off before giving Kirra-Lea a completely new style.

“I love it, it looks amazing, Renee did a really great job,” Kirra-Lea said.

“It feels short, but I can still swish it around a bit and flick it from side to side.”

Kirra-Lea made the decision to donate her hair after visiting sick children in hospital and seeing many girls who had lost their own.

Mum Melissa, said KirraLea instantly wanted to give them some of her hair, to help them feel more confident after having treatment for cancer.

“She just wants them to feel special, like a princess with beautiful long hair,” Melissa said.

“We are just so proud of her, she has a very kind, loving heart.”

Although Kirra-Lea loves her new short cut, the bubbly youngster said she can’t wait for it all to grow back.

“I want to keep growing my hair and donate it four more times,” she said.

“I just want to help more girls who don’t have any of their own.”

Kirra-Lea’s hair is now on its way to the Wigs for Kids Charity.

Rate Rise Talks

Although rate rises for merged councils were debated in Parliament last week, Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead said “there is no rate rise” for MidCoast residents at this point.

ALTHOUGH rate rises for merged councils were debated in Parliament last week, Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead said “there is no rate rise” for MidCoast residents at this point.

“Rate rises will not be granted automatically, it is up to MidCoast Council to apply to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART), and it is then up to IPART to look at the evidence

and make a determination,” Mr Bromhead told News Of The Area.

The MP was speaking in relation to the Local Government Amendment (Rates – Merged Council Areas) Bill 2017.

The Bill provides rate protection for residents in merged council areas for four years, however an amendment will give MidCoast Council the ability to apply for a Special Rate Variation.

“Nobody wants to pay

more rates, but the reality is that there is a $200m backlog, which is recognised by everyone in the NSW Parliament,” Mr Bromhead said.

Prior to the amalgamation, Greater Taree had applied for a rate rise of around 50 percent, Gloucester wanted a 40 percent rate hike and Great Lakes had requested 20 percent.

“The amalgamation stopped those rate rises from going ahead,” Mr Bromhead said.

“At the same time, MidCoast Council recognised that there was a significant infrastructure backlog.”

Mr Bromhead said without an increase in rates, in three years’ time, MidCoast ratepayers “would fall off a financial cliff” when faced with a significantly higher rate rise.

The MP stated the “modest proposal” was for an increase of five per cent, including the rate peg, each year over a four-year period.

“If the Council decides to take the rate variation application to IPART and it is approved, it will be able to get on with the backlog of roads and bridges so urgently needed in the area,” he said.

The Bill and its amendments have bipartisan support across the Parliament.

Marathon ‘Feat’ WHEN Jay Allen strode into Barangaroo at the southern end of the Harbour Bridge last Sunday, he completed a feat that few of us could match.

He’d walked 12 hundred kilometres from Brisbane to Sydney in 29 days.

Jay’s aim had been to

raise money for Melanoma research, a cause close to his heart.

A Melanoma survivor himself, his diagnosis, treatment and survival eight years ago was life changing on every level.

He went from being a truck driver to working for the Melanoma Institute in Sydney.

His mentor and hero is the Institute’s Chairman Reg Richardson.

“I harassed him till he gave me a job,” Jay told News Of The Area.

Jay’s epic journey also took him through the Myall and led to an outpouring of support both emotional and financial.

“I’m amazed at the

generosity,” Jay said.

He sends his thanks to the many businesses and locals in the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest area who donated $1,000 to his Melanoma March.

Jay’s goal was to reach $250,000 for the Melanoma Institute, a goal he appears set to achieve.

He’s not done walking either.

“Can’t wait to get back to the Institute to get started on another plan for another walk.”

OVER the past three years, Estia Health Tea Gardens has opened their meeting room doors free of charge for Tea Gardens Parkinson’s Disease Support Group.

An affiliate of Parkinson’s NSW, the group members are made up of carers, family and those going through Parkinson’s themselves.

“We are so grateful. They make us feel at home,” shared Coordinator of the group, Garry Boyd said.

With the group having previously held meetings at their own homes and needing to organise the catering themselves, it became quite a

big event to coordinate for the group.

“And a tight fit too!” joked Garry, “As we often have about 15 of our members attend.”

With meetings on the first Monday of every second month, the Estia Health home has been thrilled to support the group with a private and comfortable space which they can share their stories, resources and helpful advice.

“This Estia home really has been just wonderful to us, and I’m not just saying that to butter them up,” Garry said.

Having Parkinson’s himself, Garry has also appreciated the courteous

nature and layout of the single level home.

“Nothing is ever too much of a bother for Sue in reception,” he said.

“And to have Amanda cater for us so beautifully at their cafe, it takes the burden from us a great deal.”

“To be able to provide a space for a cause we greatly care about, as well as help our local community, we can’t imagine anything better,” Executive Director at Tea Gardens, Jenny Armstrong said.

AFTER sweltering through one of the hottest summers on record with below average rainfall in the Myall Coast Region, the stormy month of March has gone down as was one of the wettest in history.

Raincoats and umbrellas were essential items, with rain falling on 23 of the 31 days of the month in many parts of the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology said 361 mms of rain was recorded at Crawford River, the second highest March total since observations began at the location in 2002.

The record of 447 mms

was set in 2005.

Further north, 503 mms of rain was recorded at Cabbage Tree Mountain in the Upper Myall, smashing the previous March record of 428 mms.

After the dry summer, the March deluge was welcomed by property owners and farmers who have reported overflowing tanks and lush green pastures.

The wet month was also met with delight from many of the region’s youngest residents, with the rain providing hours of outdoor fun.

THE school holidays are almost upon us and once again the Tea Gardens Library has some fun activities to keep your children entertained. ‘’As Easter falls in the middle of the holidays, we’re going to do an Easter craft afternoon before the long weekend,” Librarian Carol Johnson told News Of The Area.

“We’ve got lots of craft planned, everything from an

Easter basket to an Easter card.”

“It’s all easy cardboard craft, cut, paste, glue, glitter and good fun.”

News Of The Area has it on good authority from the Easter Bunny, that there will be a surprise at the end of the activity.

The craft afternoon is suitable for children of all ages and is free of charge.

FROM the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association meeting Patricia Garrard presented on behalf of the Winda Woppa Association.

Ms Garrard, Keith Hewish and Norm Nolan met with Daniel Aldridge on 6 March with discussion focused on scouring of Jimmy’s Beach with associated issues of sand dredging and renourishment,

design and installation of the sand transfer system.

There was a request to reposition the Hazard Lines to the eastern face of The Boulevarde prior to the enactment of the State Environment Protection Plan in Feb/March.

There was discussion around the issues of inundation of The Boulevarde

with sand during large winds and Council’s plans to provide an effective barrier in the future The group escorted Daniel to the most severely affected area on The Boulevarde.

Other discussion included the planned MCC Consultative Group etc. and the new MCC organisational structure.

MYALL Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead hosted ‘Pollie In The Pub’ at Bulahdelah’s Plough Inn Hotel last Friday evening.

A small but passionate group of community members met with Mr Bromhead for an informal discussion around issues important to them.

Mr Bromhead told News Of The Area that the predominant topics of discussion have been roads and greyhounds.

Legislation to repeal the greyhound ban and implement all but one of the 122 reforms, was introduced in Parliament last week.

“What it means for Greyhound owners is that they do have a future, that they’re now part of an industry that wants to reform, that wants to be sustainable, and I think it is an exciting time for them,” Mr Bromhead said.

“There is a lot involved in the reduction of breeding, the life cycle

tracking of every dog, and improving safety of the tracks to lower the risk of injury to the greyhounds.”

Mr Bromhead said the reforms also include stronger penalties and lifetime bans for those who do the wrong thing, Other topics discussed with the local member included policing

throughout the state, council amalgamations and Gonski funding.

The National Party MP said his series of pub chats have been well received throughout the electorate.

“It’s another way of engaging with the community to listen to what they have got to say,” Mr Bromhead said.

“I do an electorate tour three or four times a year, sometimes I have a crowd, sometimes it is just a few, so I thought that I would speak to people in the pubs and see what the issues are.”

Mr Bromhead has so far visited five of the region’s pubs on the tour.

PRIMARY SCHOOL HISTORY: Jan Winn.

By Margie TIERNEY NEWS Of The Area would like to take you on a trip down memory lane with a Tea Gardens local for whom history is a way of life.

Eighty-year-old Jan Winn’s family first came to the area back in the 1880s.

Five generations of Jan’s family, including herself and her children, also went through the local primary school.

“The Primary School actually started in Hawks Nest in 1877 on Moira Parade on the banks of the river,” Jan said.

“At one time they had a big boat they called ‘The Schooler’ and they used to row over from Hawks Nest and pick up the kids from Tea Gardens and take them back.”

“Of course when it was bad weather they couldn’t go to school.”

140 years on and Tea Gardens Primary is about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its annual Easter Art and Craft Expo.

Jan tells the story of how it started through the efforts of the Principal at the time, Evette Barwick.

“Evette Barwick was transferred from Junee to Tea Gardens in 1977,’’ Jan said.

“She had the horse float behind the car full of gear and she came to the top of the big hill up there and she said, “Oh my God they’ve sent me to heaven,” Jan recalled.

The two women immediately became lifelong friends through their love of art and craft and their passion to raise money for the school.

“At the very last minute, when we were trying to get the catalogues together, it was frantic,” Jan said.

“You’d be using an

ordinary old typewriter and roneoing it all off, it was hard work.”

Jan Winn’s passion for art has never waned.

She still holds a weekly china painting group at her home.

Jan is also hoping to make it to the School Art and Craft Show starting on Thursday 13 April.

“I’ve only missed two,” she said.

The Tea Gardens Primary Art and Craft Expo is on every day over the Easter long weekend.

Mrs RL Medowie Dear RL, WHEN Easter buns started hitting the supermarket shelves not long after Boxing Day, that was the line in the sand that made it clear that retail expectations were totally out of sync with reality.

I mean it’s bad enough that there are sales right after Christmas with disco light popcorn makers that result in third degree burns and epileptic fits (now half price). But the added pressure of Easter buns? Sheer madness, Mrs RL. Whatever way you sway in a spiritual sense, Easter should be all about family and thankfulness.

You cannot, of course, look like the family in the advertising brochures, because they are in a studio with soft lighting and silk pyjamas and a husband holding a tray of croissants with jam, his rippled torso stretching out to reach for a Bilby for little Miriam.

That’s not reality, Mrs RL. Reality is making up impossible clues to find Easter eggs to teach the kids some good old Ricky Resilience.

Reality is having the dog’s stomach pumped because he started the egg hunt two hours before the family.

Reality is putting on two kilos in 24 hours and then lining up for a baked dinner.

And there’s something kind of wholesome in that, something that the advertising gurus will never capture.

If they could bottle it, they would.

A motion was moved to no longer hold the Street Stalls that have been our main source of income, but every member was willing to make a $10 donation each month instead.

Two brand options have been developed to represent MidCoast Council as part of the ongoing process to define, ‘What is MidCoast?’

TWO brand options have been developed to represent MidCoast Council as part of the ongoing process to define, ‘What is MidCoast?’

Council is now asking for feedback on the options, and expects the preferred design to be ready for rollout at the end of April.

“We’d really like to hear from as many people in our community as possible about the proposed concepts, so they can take ownership of our new identity,” Council’s Communications Coordinator Donna Hudson said.

A video presentation on Council’s website explains the concept behind each design, stating the colours in the first option represent the natural environment.

The cluster of shapes shows the new region coming together and the “organic drawing style portrays the relaxed, down to earth lifestyle”.

The second option is “all about people and place.”

The logo design colours are inspired by the bush and is described as “relaxed and unpretentious” to show that MidCoast Council is about more than just the delivery

of services.

Council began the process to develop the brand identity in October last year, and have based the design concepts on community feedback provided from surveys, and from workshops across the region.

“We’ve always known that people who live here are passionate about their region and this really came out in our conversations with community,” Donna said.

“Across the region, people told us both what they value about living here and what unique characteristics they believe make up our region.”

Donna said the feedback has not only informed the two brand concepts currently on display, but will also be used to develop Council’s Community Plan.

Alternatively, information and surveys are available in all Council libraries and customer service centres.

Council Raises Dorney’s Bridge Midcoast Council bridge crews completed construction on the new Dorney’s Bridge at Markwell last month.

MIDCOAST Council bridge crews completed construction on the new Dorney’s Bridge at Markwell last month.

The new concrete structure replaces an aging timber bridge that had deteriorated over the years, and had reached the end of its serviceable life.

Local resident Glen Dorney told News Of The Area, the old bridge had been there for longer than he can recall.

“It was there for at least 90-years, the old timers told me they can remember it when they were young,” he said.

“The old wooden one flooded about three or four times a year, and eventually, it just fell to bits.”

MidCoast Council Manager of Operations (South) Jamie Condie, said the new bridge has been lengthened and raised by about one metre, which will reduce the frequency of it becoming flooded during

heavy rains.

“With the new design we’ve been able to facilitate a more natural flow path for the waterway, which will ultimately help improve the natural environment in this area,” he said.

“The new bridge provides a smoother and safer driving surface and will serve the local community for years to come, with far lower ongoing maintenance costs.”

Mr Dorney told News Of The Area, his extended family has had a long association with the Markwell area.

“My great, great, grandfather Daniel Dorney was the first to settle in this part of the region,” he said.

“Our family has always owned the land on the northern side of the river, and that’s why the bridge has always been known as Dorney’s Bridge.”

According to MidCoast Council, almost 40 percent of all bridges across the region are timber.

“Their age and condition often means ongoing repairs,” Mr Condie said.

Australian SLSC Championships

MEMBERS of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club headed north last week to compete in the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.

“It’s the pinnacle of the sports competition nationally, and the largest sporting event held in Australia outside of the Commonwealth Games,” long time member Peter Rogers said.

After an extremely successful State Titles, including the club’s first ever Surfboat Gold Medal, the TGHN Beach team and the Masters Surfboat “Long Strokers” went to Kirra still on a high and again they came

home with medals.

“With a high number of Queensland crews competing in conditions they are more used to, it was always going to be difficult, but the Long Strokers did themselves and the club proud,” Peter told News Of The Area.

“In tricky Queensland surf conditions, with the cyclone approaching, the “Long Strokers” Surfboat crew of Andrew Stubbs, John Estens, Peter Larkin and Ian Sunner missed the semifinals by a single point after three challenging rounds of competition.”

“They did, however, out row far more fancied competition including the NSW State Gold Medallists in their age division.”

On the sand, better things were yet to come.

Jan and Tony Logue again dominated.

Tony Logue won silver in the one kilometre beach run.

Jan Logue cleaned up taking out Bronze in the one kilometre beach run, Silver in the beach sprint and Silver in the beach flags.

Andrew Stubbs made the two kilometre Beach Run Australian Final coming fifth.

“A magnificent achievement again for a club competing against others with far greater sponsorship and membership numbers,” Peter said.

“We’re looking forward to continued success in the 2018 season.’’

By Neil REYNOLDS THE Tea Gardens Hawks good early form in trials was bought back to earth by a gritty Maitland United side on Sunday.

A convincing win by 40 points to 6 against Central Coast Rugby Leagues’ Woy Woy reserve grade had the Hawks on a high going into the first competition round.

Trial form did not phase MU, who fielded a team of

players willing to put their body on the line all day. United got out to a 10 point lead in the first half, before the Hawks crossed for a converted try minutes before the half time bell.

The Hawks mistake rate in attack, continued into the second half, placing pressure on their defensive structure.

Led by Brooke Roach and Anthony Cameron, some intensive defence resulted in three unanswered tries in the first twenty minutes of the

second half.

A comfortable 24 point to 10 score line was reduced by United with two converted tries. The Hawks survived a nail biting finish, to win by 24 points to 22. Tries scored for the Hawks were by Jack Beverley, CJ Misifosa, Regan Hunter, and Davis Edmonds.

Jack Beverley kicked two goals, while Jade Duroux and Kurtis Langdon kicked one each. Best in defence was awarded to Brooke Roach.

Interclub Fishing Challenge GOLF

By Luke BOYD THE great fishing challenge weekend was held 24th 26th March 2017 against Narrabeen RSL Fishing Club.

The weather took a change for the better and blue water, rock, beach and estuary anglers were all in for a treat.

Ultimately there can be only one winner of the 2017 fishing challenge.

Narrabeen RSL Fishing Club earned 3170.3 points

against Hawks Nest Golf Club Social Club Fishing Club 2821.7 points giving Narrabeen the 2017 Fishing Club Shield.

Over the fourteen years the inter club competition has been running, the scores are seven wins for each team making next year a very competitive year.

The whole weekend was a very close competition with some impressive catches from both teams.

Busy time on dry(ish) greens Karuah RSL Men’s Bowls Club

By Trevor DAVIES A VERY mixed bag for bowlers at Karuah. The weather finally cleared, the greens dried out (a bit) and bowls and bowlers again graced the greens.

We had a Ladies pennant team have a big win at home, a mid week Men’s team pipped at the post away at Soldiers Point, followed by the same thing happening to our Ladies team.

Both Men’s Teams had good wins at home against Lemon Tree Passage, and away at Stockton.

Pennants aside, the Men’s social comp got serious with some very high standard bowls played.

Ben and Trevor played above themselves to beat

Gordon and Bill on the last end, while all the other games were likewise close and very competitive.

The Club Championship pairs comp saw the inner gorillas get a run and half of the Clubs Men’s Pairs teams were eliminated after some excellent games.

The teams that are left play off over the next few weeks, immortality beckoning for the eventual winners with their name to be posted up on the honour boards in glory for evermore.

More social and pennant games are scheduled.

Club champions like Gordon Latimore and Stewart Bagnall, shown in the photo (where Gordon is about to deliver another winning bowl, while Stewie walks away from his mat in disgust!) will

have to step up again.

The chips (and bowls) will fall where they may, let’s just hope that they fall right next to the Jack.

Great bowling can still be watched from the verandah at the RSL Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons games, vocal and parochial crowds have been increasing each week supporting their local teams.

If you are brave enough to try something new come along Sunday mornings to try a free beginners session or a social game for $5.00.

BOWLING Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club

29 March The weather was hot and humid today with 36 players competing in the Wednesday Gala day.

Play reverted to two games of 12 end Triples as the Mighty Dolphins Grade 4 side played away at Carrington.

The winners were decided by 20 points for a win plus ends won.

Two teams scored 53 points and the winners were decided on a countback.

The team of Dennis Wilberforce, Tom Short and Dennis Ashbridge won the money just edging out Lance Atkins, Bruce Everitt and Pip Sullivan.

Next week will revert to one game of 18 ends commencing at the earlier time of 9.00 for 9.30 start.

The Mighty Dolphins Mid–week Pennant Grade 4 side played away at Carrington this week.

After trouncing Carrington at home in the first round, they found the conditions reversed playing at Carrington.

It would be true to say that they had a rough time.

The “green”, I use the term loosely, was more in

keeping with a grazing sheep and was so slow that players delivering a bowl found it more likely to end closer to them than at the jack end.

Finesse, touch and bias went out the window and was replaced with brute strength more reminiscent of ten-pin bowling or a game of cricket.

Two teams went close to skittling all the “pins”.

The Danny Johnson four lost by 4 shots 18-22 and the “Houdini Four” remain unbeaten, plugging away to achieve a 19-19 draw.

The Mark Hair team were never in the game going down 11-34.

Carrington won the match 75-48. Ouch!

The 4’s can look forward to a “proper” game of bowls next week when they play the Water Board BC at home.

31 March No Fabulous Friday Open Pairs this week.

The game was washedout.

Play will resume next Friday, weather permitting.

1 April Round 5 of the Saturday Pennant competition was played today with mixed results.

The Mighty Dolphins Grade 3 side continued on their unbeaten way with a great win, 77-53, over Boolaroo BC at home.

The Steve Pell team made a wonderful comeback, after

trailing 14-23 at the 18th end, by pulling off an amazing 7 at the 19th, (they missed an 8 pin by a centimetre!), and drawing the 23-23 with one end to play.

They were holding three in the head with only the opposing skip to play his last bowl.

He pulled off a fine conversion and won the game for Boolaroo 24-23.

Great game!

There were no similar dramas in the remaining games with the Sean Mearrick Four outplaying their opponents winning 28-19 and the Richard Lee team never headed winning 26-10 in a clinical display of precision bowling. Well done!

The Grade 5 side played away at Soldiers Point this week whilst the Grade 6 side also played away at the “graveyard” otherwise known as Tomago.

Soldiers Point made it a clean sweep winning the match 74-42.

There were two close games with the Danny Johnson team going down 17-23 and the Merv Mills four losing by 4, 16-20 In the remaining game Tea Gardens was completely out bowled losing 9-31.

There was better news from Grade 6 who had to tough it out at the now infamous Tomago green.

The format for social bowls was three games of Triples and the winners with

It was good to see Olive McKeown and Julie Kennedy back on the green.

I am pleased to announce that Sunday Bowls is under new management due to the good grace of David Williams, Beverly Thrift and Ray Prigg.

I feel sure that now the Sunday bowlers have some consistency in their organisation their numbers will improve.

The quarter finals of the Club Pairs Championship were played today.

The pairing of Greg Peason and John Parkinson, (substituting for Scott Beaumont), defeated John Younghusband and Ian Baker 21-10.

Jeff Baker and Mark Hair,(substituting for Steve Pell), won a really close encounter with Daryl Martin

and Col Amos. They won 2524.

The pair of Ross Barry and Merv Mills ran away with their game against Tom Parkinson and Bill Thrift 307.

In the remaining game Col Farrugia and Brian Emmett held their opponents, Steve Jones and Paul Syron, to 14-14 at the 14th end but eventually went down 2416 in the fading light. A real ‘gutsy’ effort!

The semi-finals will be held next Sunday with Scott Beaumont and Greg Pearson playing Steve Jones and Paul Syron and Jeff baker and Steve Pell taking on Ross Barry and Merv Mills.

Important Public Notice Wild Dog and Fox Control The NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) in cooperation with the Bulahdelah and District Wild Dog Control Group, NSW Forestry Corp, MidCoast Council and the Hunter Local Land Services will be undertaking an annual 1080 wild dog/fox baiting and trapping program within Myall Lakes and Ghin-doo-ee National Park. The control program will use a combination of 1080 ejectors and trapping methods.

The 1080 program will take place from Friday 20 March 2017 to Monday 1 May 2017.

The use of 1080 ejector baits and trapping techniques are being conducted as part of a broader dog and fox control program, to lessen the potential impacts on neighbouring property and biodiversity values.

Warning signs will be erected on the main access tracks where the baiting is undertaken.

All neighbours and people using the parks are reminded domestics pets are not permitted in National Parks.
