Helping in the fight

Beamsville Towne Centre was evacuated Tuesday just after noon after youth jumping on a gasline broke the pipe causing a gas leak. Lincoln Fire Services was dispatched at about 12:15 p.m. to the back of the plaza, said Lincoln deputy fire chief Bill Blake, adding the fire service secured the area and

evacuated the town centre and adjacent businesses. “Once isolated, all premises were checked for gas levels and reopened once it was safe to do so, “ said Blake, adding it was about 2 p.m. before people were allowed to return to their businesses. No one was injured.

Hat Trick Hockey returns Fans of Hat Trick Hockey, please turn to Page 12 right now. If you don’t know of Hat Trick, please allow us to explain. The NewsNow Hat Trick contest allows local hockey “experts” to test their knowledge head-to-head with friends, family members and/or co-workers. NewsNow readers can complete the registration form picking their team – just like an NHL general manager. The entrant whose team generates the most points in the 20142015 regular season will win a trip for two to a designated playoff game, sponsored by Grimsby Hyundai. Second and third place winners will get $200 and $50 gift certificates courtesy of Giant Tiger, while a host of weekly random prizes will also be chosen, thanks to Teddy’s

Food, Fun & Spirits, Pizza Shak, Cole’s Florist. “The weekly prizes are popular because you could be 481st out of 600 entrants and still win a prize at some point in the year. We will be adding more weekly prizes in subsequent weeks, too, so watch the paper,” said NewsNow publisher Mike Williscraft, adding it’s a lot of fun for the $5 entry fee. As if that wasn’t enough, entrants who get their picks in by the Early Bird deadline of Friday, Oct. 24, 5 p.m., could win four tickets to the Saturday, Nov. 1 Leafs-Chicago Black Hawks game at the ACC, sponsored by Fisher Stevenson Boehm Insurance. The FINAL entry deadline is Monday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m. Entries must be submitted at NewsNow’s office, 49 Main St. W., Grimsby. There is a mailslot in the front door. Please include payment with entries.
