Town of Lincoln planning to take the lead Once again, as we enter 2019, the Town of Lincoln is pleased to participate in this special publication highlighting some of the great organizations, people, events and activities that make our community such a wonderful place to call home. As you look through this publication, we hope you will share our excitement about the progress our town is making on many fronts as well as our optimism for the future. We are at a turning point. New technologies and innovation are transforming the larger economy. The pace and change of business, coupled with the sectors driv-
ing the economy are all evolving, and municipalities now play an increasingly significant role in this change. As a leading municipality, right here in Niagara, we are in a prime position to take advantage of these changes. Lincoln is on the move - we remain the fourth fastest growing municipality in the Region. Council continues to be focused on a set of priorities that form the foundation for a strong, vibrant and healthy community, one that preserves and celebrates our historic and unique character, engages citizens in the life of their community, and creates new and exciting opportunities for growth and prosperity.
We are also striving to realize Lincoln’s potential – and doing so by promoting the Town’s “open for business” approach, building upon our strengths in agriculture, agri-tourism and beverage manufacturing, health care and industrial manufacturing. We are also working closely with our anchor institutions, including Brock University, Niagara College, Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, as well as the private sector and all our regional and government partners to make Lincoln a place where companies, families and institutions can grow and thrive. We are a strong community with strong roots and passionate
people – people who have supported our great past and are striving to build an even greater future. Guided by our vision of Lincoln as “a place to grow, a place to prosper, a place to belong,” the Town’s ultimate goal is to ensure the longterm health and success of Lincoln. Our goal is to make Lincoln and Niagara a leader. On behalf of Council, I thank you for your support and we invite all of our stakeholders to work together towards realizing our full potential. Thank you, Mayor Sandra Easton & Town of Lincoln Council

Jerry’s Auto to celebrate 50 years of service Alan Gerritsen’s father Jerry may have retired in 2011, but Alan is carrying on the family tradition of top quality work and service at Jerry’s Auto Body into the company’s 50th year of operation. This May, Jerry’s Auto will celebrate its 50th anniversary of serving the community. Key to the operations success has been having a great team which has been together for many years. “My guys have been with us for a long time. They have a lot of experience and stay up to date on the changing technology and ways to repair the newer vehicles,” says Alan, who

Among some of the changes the business has undergone in its long run in Beamsville, has been converting its paint operation to an
environmentally friendly waterborne base coat technology. Over the years, Alan has also been very committed to putting back into the community sponsoring Jordan Minor Hockey and Baseball, Lincoln Minor Soccer, Heritage Christian School in Jordan and Smithville Christian High School. For their decades of effort, Jerry’s was awarded the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Award in 2012. Alan’s shop, located on 5529 Reg. Armstrong Strategy Group: Communicating for a Cause Armstrong Strategy Group (ASG), a strategic planning and communications firm based in St. Catharines, has been proud to be involved in the Save West Lincoln Memorial Hospital initiative (#SaveWLMH) that has galvanized the residents of Lincoln and West Niagara. ASG came aboard at the end of October 2018 and was tasked with preparing key messaging, a logo design, tag lines and coordination of social media undertaken by community volunteers. ASG understood the history of the community where previous efforts to “save” the hospital, although initially deemed successful, were ultimately cancelled by the government of the day. As a result, ASG positioned the campaign as not just to “Save” WMLH but also to “Rebuild” WLMH, capitalizing on the community mobilization and momentum needed to be carried into the rebuild message. In addition, to the tag line, ASG designed the logo, which was quickly adopted as a rallying symbol for the community. The logo was made available for download, in various

Declutter & stress less with Jatia Jatia Enterprises was created by entrepreneur Lona Salomons-Jatia, she is a wife, mother and health and wellness advocate. The business was created to address a need she saw everyday in her community. Too many families were living stressed out between dealing with work, the kids and other daily activities that they didn’t have time to clean or organize their homes let alone enjoy their families. She set out to change that and help her neighbors however she could. In 2014 Jatia Enterprises was born with the sole mission to provide residential cleaning services to homes in her area. The business has since grown and now services commercial and residential properties. Growing up in a family of

Customers valued at Mountaineer Movers When Mountaineer Movers celebrated 41 years of business in 2019, the team looked back into its past to remind ourselves of the history the company has drawn from. In 1951, Harry Mans immigrate to Canada from Holland with his family. Harry’s first job was to work on the farm that sponsored them when they came to Canada. “As our family got older, Harry saw the need for his family to work together. The family started delivering mail routes, then a newspaper routes and soon flowers, as well, said co-owner Wendy Mans-Keddie. “One day Harry saw an advertisement for a moving business that was up for sale. After some careful deliberation, he purchased the business name Mountaineer Movers. Thus, the ‘family’ business began!” Their consideration of their customers is what sets them apart. “As a family, we understand and realize that moving can be one of the MOST stressful times in a person’s life,” said Wendy, who is now the company president and worked along side Harry for 47 years. “We strive to remember that we are servicing a wide variety of people and demographics and they are confronting a major change in their life. They are leaving a place they have called home for a new and unfamiliar place that will soon become their new haven.” Wendy’s husband Andrew, who has 40 years of experience, does all in-home estimates as well as Tom Ensign, an employee of several years. Their daughter Sarah oversees the office administration. “We would not be a moving company without out movers – our ‘guys’. These men make Mountaineer a continuing success. ,” noted Wendy. The company’s philosophy is simple, she noted, success is
honesty. “All in all – trust your instincts and treat all those around you, whether they are family, customers, or employees with respect, dignity and encouragement. This is our philosophy on running a successful and prosperous busi- Andrew Keddie (holding Lola), with his daughter Sarah ness,” said Wendy. Mans-Keddie (holding Abby), wife Wendy Mans-Keddie.

New Name - Same Essential Services For Women It has been one year since Gillian’s Place and West Niagara Second Stage Housing & Counselling Inc. (WNSS) came together as one organization to better serve women and children fleeing abuse that both organizations were serving separately. The staff, facility and services of WNSS were taken on under the umbrella of Gillian’s Place, and are now known as Gillian’s Place - West Niagara. While the name and administrative structure of the organization has changed, what has not changed is their commitment
to serving women and children who have experienced domestic abuse. This decision came after considering the incredible benefit to the women and children that both organizations were separately serving. The move came out of a long shared mutual respect, overlapping catchment areas, complementary programming, shared funders and a desire to serve their clients in the most accessible and efficient way possible. Operating as one organization fully integrated in North/West Niagara has helped
to create a sense of security and trust for women as they move across multiple services offered by one organization. Gillian’s Place is the largest organization of its kind in the region. They offer safe shelter and a full range of support services including 24-hour support counselling, safety planning, emotional support, legal advice and transitional assistance, for women and children who have experienced abuse living in Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines, Thorold, and West Lincoln.
One in four women will experience violence at the hands of a partner.
Gillian’s Place is here to offer
Gillian’s Place also works diligently to provide public education and raise community awareness on the issue of violence against women. West Niagara Second Stage Housing & Counselling provided counselling, safety planning, legal advocacy and transitional housing to women and children in the area of Grimsby, Lincoln, & West Lincoln for 30 years. With over 70 years of combined experience in serving women, this move has already begun to positively impact the future of women and children in Niagara.
“I came here broken. They helped me feel whole again. They helped me believe I could do it. They gave me hope when there was none.”
