Message from Mayor Sandra Easton Lincoln is a leader in Niagara, and Town Council remains committed to creating a bright and prosperous future for the Lincoln community anchored by sustainable growth through strong leadership and collaboration.

We are pleased to bring updates on our recent successes and plans for this year. In 2022, we were able to achieve many of our long-term goals to support a prosperous community, while still addressing the lingering effects of the pandemic. Some of the key initiatives included further investment in our new tourism brand, the Niagara Benchlands, continued partnership with Civiconnect on our Youth Skills Studio, and implementing the fourth round of the Digital Main Street Ontario program to help businesses improve their online presence.

We remain laser-focused on supporting the local business community. Tourism and the related value-added agricultural businesses unique to Lincoln are significant drivers of the local economy. Launched earlier this year, our Work in Lincoln program will help address the labour shortage by connecting job seekers with employers, and ultimately strengthening our local economy.

The recently elected Town of Lincoln Council is developing a strategic plan for our 2022-26 term that will carry forward the great work begun by previous Councils. Our last strategic plan was supported by priorities to make Lincoln a Welcoming, Connected, Vibrant and Resilient community and we will continue in this vein. I look forward to sharing more information about the work on our updated plan in the coming months.

Message from Chief Administrative Officer, Michael Kirkopoulos I am proud of the progress we have seen in Lincoln the last few years despite the challenges we have confronted due to the pandemic and its impacts on many levels.

The local business community has been resilient and optimistic, and the Town has made it a top priority to continue to support businesses through targeted policies, programs, grant opportunities aimed at stimulating the local economy.

We have an open for business philosophy in Lincoln that is supported by a robust Economic Development Strategy & Action Plan. We remain committed to leading and building a community where our residents, visitors, and the business community feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged. We pride ourselves in fostering relationships with community members, businesses, not-for-profit groups and upper levels of government. This year we are exploring further opportunities for shared services among other local area municipalities in an effort to optimize service delivery while seeking efficiencies. It is through this collaborative and innovative approach that we will continue to meet success.

Through the persistent efforts of our advocacy program, we are securing investments to minimize burden on the local taxpayer and support local growth and development.

The Lincoln Chamber Is The “Voice of Business”

s Lincoln’s “Voice of Business”, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, membership-driven organization dedicated to growing and sustaining the economic prosperity of our community.

Popular networking and signature events hosted by the Chamber have returned to in-person formats, allowing members the opportunity to network and make valuable connections that will help them grow their organizations.

The Town of Lincoln meets with upper levels of government to discuss key priorities, programs, and initiatives to advocate for the Town’s vision of sustainable economic growth, supported by investments in infrastructure and important community-focused projects.

These conversations are continuously conducted at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) & the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conferences and delegations. The Town of Lincoln Economic Development Office, in partnership with the Employment Help Centre, is excited to announce the launch of the Work in Lincoln program to help connect local employers to talented job seekers in the area. The program includes a WorkInLincoln.ca website as a key digital resource for both employers and job seekers.

The new website will allow local employers to create an account and submit job postings at their own leisure, while also allowing job seekers to apply for job postings and join the resume database.

As part of the Work in Lincoln program, the Town’s Economic Development Office hosted a job fair on April 3, 2023 and will host another job fair in late Fall to help fill vacancies and promote career opportunities in Lincoln’s local economy. The Work in Lincoln program has directly supported Workforce Development in the community, a key objective in the Town’s Economic Development Strategy & Action Plan.

For municipalities, there certainly are some challenges facing us this year, but there are opportunities too. We are fortunate to live in Lincoln, and my family and I, like yours, are looking forward to great things in 2023.

Major milestones for Guardian International’s 25th anniversary

G

uardian International is an independent security guard firm that serves the Golden Horseshoe area including Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and the GTA. Bea Bartkiw and her late husband, Peter, Incorporated the business in 1998. Working initially from their home on Ontario Street Beamsville, they began their security service with eight people.

In 1999, they moved to their current location at 4460 Ontario St., Unit 3 and in 2007 they hired Lino Del Duca as VP of Operations.

This year marks several milestones with reason to celebrate. While Guardian International Protective Services Inc is celebrating its 25th year in business, Bea is also retiring and Lino will become the sole proprietor.

Growing in leaps and bounds over the years, Guardian International Protective Services currently employs over 118 people serving in different capacities such as Concierge, Security Guard, Mobile Patrol and School Crossing Guards.

“We’re in the business of keeping our clients’ properties safe and secure” says Lino Del Duca, Owner “Our only product is the security and peace of mind of our Clients.”

At Guardian International, a large percentage of our business involves providing security guard/concierge services to high rise condominium developments. This can include 24/7 or partial coverage. Our team takes great pride in building a strong relationship with our clients. Many companies still have had contracts with us since the Lincoln-based firm began back in February 1998.

Guardian International also has a firm commitment to industrial clients providing security guards for many factories and industrial sites. Small businesses and offices are another one of Guardian’s specialties. Their teams can patrol areas like plazas, malls, and public areas. For example, Guardian International currently sup-

Customers valued at Mountaineer Movers When Mountaineer Movers celebrated 41 years of business in 2019, the team looked back into its past to remind themselves of the history the company has drawn from.

In 1951, Harry Mans immigrated to Canada from Holland with his family.

Harry’s first job was to work on the farm that sponsored them when they came to Canada.

“As our family got older, Harry saw the need for his family to work together. The family started delivering mail routes, then newspaper routes and soon flowers as well,” as Sarah Mans-Keddie recalls her late mother, Wendy Mans-Keddie, telling her.

“One day Harry saw an advertisement for a moving business that was up for sale.

After some careful deliberation, he purchased the business name, Mountaineer Movers. Thus, the ‘family’ business began!”

The family’s consideration of their customers is what sets them apart.

“As a family, we understand and realize that moving can be one of the MOST stressful times in a person’s life,” says Sarah.

“We strive to remember that we are servicing a wide variety of people and demographics and they are confronting a major change in their lives. They are leaving a place they have called home for a new and unfamiliar place that will soon become their new haven.”

Sarah’s father, Andrew, who has over 40 years of experience, does all in-home estimates as well as Tom Ensign, an employee of several years, with Sarah overseeing the office administration.
