Your two new multi-purpose studios They’re finally here — the new multi-purpose studios at North Kesteven Centre (soon to be One NK) are complete and ready to use. The studios make up Phase 2 of the £3.6m development project at the centre, which started in February this year and was carried out by Lindum BMS. In addition to the studios, new female dry changing facilities were also created, in addition to an accessible changing room.

The studios are situated on the first floor of the centre and can be used for a variety of activities, from sport classes to community and charity events.

Inside the studios, you will see

a wall of full length mirrors to help improve your workout or routine, mats, a dumbbell rack and a rack for barbells and weight plates. Of course, there are also the One NK branding figures to help inspire those in classes!

The new workout timetable offers a range of different classes throughout the week and at various times of the day, including circuit training, Pilates, Legs, Bums & Tums, step and Les Mills group workouts.

Les Mills is the most popular provider internationally of choreographaged group exercise classes, ranging from cardio workouts such

as HIIT and BodyCombat to weight-based training like BodyPump. NKC currently offers BodyPump and BodyAttack, with more coming soon.

Edna Friest was one of the first users to try out a class in the new studios.

She said: “Had good work out in the newly refurbished studios with Karen. I’m looking forward to Aerobic here too - cannot wait!

“My daughter Dorothy had good workout in the morning BodyAttack class, plus an Abs session and can’t wait for next week’s classes!”

Putting ‘considerate’ into construction Pupils from North Kesteven School take part in Phase Two’s build.

In partnership with contractors, Lindum BMS, North Kesteven Centre is now accredited by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

The national scheme aims to improve the image of construction. Its Code of Considerate Practice commits sites and companies registered with the Scheme to care about appearance, respect the community, protect the environment, secure everyone’s safety and value their workforce.

At NKC, Lindum, North Kesteven District Council and 1Life have worked hard to earn its accreditation. An inspector visited the site in late May, and was pleased with what was demonstrated.

On site, Lindum employees are offered various protection from different weather, such as sun cream on offer on hot days, and easily accessible facilities if they need to get changed or would like a shower. The site is organised, clean and tidy, with clear and neat storage facilities. It is also safe for both visitors and workers, with clear safety guidelines across the area.

As well as an organised site

and happy workforce though, the scheme also helps invite the community into every stage of the build. The centre has been keen to get everyone involved, offering guided tours around the building work at various stages. Tours were offered and some of the most successful events on site include visits from the Young Journalist Academy, who also had the chance to speak to the workforce on site as well as council officers, and Lindum providing tools for the school’s eco garden.

Lastly, the Code of Practice also looks at the impact on the environment, something NKDC takes seriously when undertaking any building work. This includes reducing waste, leaving a low carbon footprint and minimising the impact of vibration, and air, light and noise pollution.

We will continue to work hard with our partners and the local community to improve on our score from the Considerate Constructors Scheme over the coming months.

Phase Three begins Now Phase Two is complete, Phase Three is now underway. Already, scaffolding is going up around the area which will be refurbished, ready for transformation work to commence.

In Phase Three, work will focus on transforming the gym, the dance and Spinning Studios and a male dry changing room. Each will get a fresh new look, and allow for better amenities in the centre.

The work is programmed to run from late May until September.

Despite the change in location, opening times and facilities available will remain the same.

Infolinks will permanently reopen back in the sports centre at a later date.

Hirebike comes to the Centre Now you can get fit on your way to and from North Kesteven Sports Centre!

Access Lincoln will install a station for its popular hirebike scheme at NKC soon, whilst Lindum BMS provides the base for free for the station in order to help the local community.

The scheme allows people to hire out a bicycle for a set period of time at a fair price, allowing green, healthy travel around the city and local cycling routes.
