Wildlife theme for splash pool A rabbit, deer and otter are just a few of the animals featured along a river bank in the designs for the new splash pool which is part of the current leisure centre refurbishment. An artist impression of the splash zone was released to the public during a briefing that took place in May to update them on the progress and gauge feedback about the swimming pool programme, and general interior plans. The splash pool will be located separately to the main pool and features water fountains and small slides for under-4s to use. The introduction of the splash pool means that the next generation of North Kesteven’s swimmers can build confidence in a safe area before progressing to the larger pool. Principal Building Surveyor, Scott Masterman said; “We are really pleased with the outcome of the designs. We have spent a lot of time

getting this right, and feel it will be a great and much used asset to the leisure centre. Original plans were to have a basic, small splash area with one toy feature. Having small children myself, I understand this wouldn’t entertain them for long. Now I feel there is something for the younger members of the district’s families to look forward to.” The splash pool was something that members of the public felt strongly about having in previous consultations, as well as keeping the sauna and steam, and gym and fitness suite. “We greatly value consultation and always respect and respond to feedback, believing that public views are critical in shaping public services. That has certainly been the case here” said Cllr Mrs Marion Brighton. The refurbishment is on schedule and will be open to the public in October 2013.

Those attending the recent public briefing also got a sneak preview of the colour scheme and interior design ideas planned for the new-look leisure centre. Feature colours will include a plum like colour known as amerina which will be complimented by a silvery grey colour throughout. Both colours will be used externally, along with the use of glass panelling, and internally in the changing village. Tiling throughout the centre will be kept plain with the use of different textures for different areas, dependent on their use. Wood flooring will also be used in the spectators area. The overall look has been visualised as clean, contemporary and friendly for all to enjoy over the coming years.
