Abbey Trails set for Saturday, May 6 Conception, Mo. – Run with the monks of Conception Abbey at the annual Abbey Trails 5K Run / 2-Mile Walk & Health Fair on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Conception Abbey and Conception Seminary College in Conception, Missouri. Find more information on our website.
“This year, the monastic community celebrates 150 years in Northwest Missouri, and we are excited to celebrate that in a special way with our Abbey Trails participants,” said Kim Stiens, event coordinator. “We hope to share our message of health and wellness with long-time friends and newcomers alike.”
The 5K race takes runners out and back on a scenic paved road north of Conception Abbey. Participants in the 2-mile walk will estimate their time of completion of the course winding through the beautiful Abbey grounds. Chip timing is provided for both the run and walk by Morgan Sports. John Coffey, the voice of the Northwest Bearcats and KXCV-KRNW Radio, will once again serve as emcee at the awards ceremony and health fair. The health fair, which includes brunch, will feature area vendors that provide services and products related to lifelong health and wellness.
Entry fee for individual registration is $25 and will end on Monday, April 19. Registration after that date will be $30 per person. Registration fees include a free t-shirt, brunch, and access to the health fair after the race. Brunch for non-participants will cost $5. Participants can register online at www.conceptionabbey.org/abbeytrails. Race day registration and packets will be available at the Welcome Center from 7:30-8:45 a.m. the day of the race.
A corporate challenge is open to all area businesses and organizations. Businesses can gather coworkers and compete for the three traveling trophies for most participants from one business, fastest average time in the 5K run, and closest average time in the 2-mile walk. Last year, Nodaway Valley Bank and Nucor took home the corporate challenge trophies.
Individual awards are given for first and second place, male and female, in each age group. The top overall male and female finishers will also receive awards in the 5K run, and each participant is eligible for the various door prizes, which include gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants.
VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION
You may complete your walk or run wherever you are. This will be participation only, no competition. Your registration fees will provide you with a t-shirt and participation medal, which will be mailed or arranged for pick-up. Register and learn more at www.conceptionabbey.org/abbeytrails.
For more information, contact Kim Stiens at (660) 944-2881 or by email at events@conception.edu.

The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches
(Nehemiah 1:4-7, I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.) After the expulsion from the Holy Land a man named Nehemiah became the trusted ‘Cup Bearer’ to king Artaxerxes of Persia. As a cup bearer to the king, it was his duty to taste the food and drink to be certain it was safe and would not poison the King. When the king saw that Nehemiah was grieving his concern was well founded until he found the reason for his down hearted demeaner. The temple had been rebuilt but the walls of the city were still in disarray allowing the ways of the world to influence the people of God. I look at this little book of Nehemiah and see our world today as inclusiveness has influenced the modern church. Sin is accepted and encouraged in the name of compassion and love. I see very little from those who claim Jesus Christ as Lord grieving and asking in prayer while confessing not only their sins but the sins of society. During this time of year many turn to matters of faith and religion involving spiritual reflection and a ceremonial order of service. A time to seek God in spirit and truth asking Him to fill us with His righteousness as our spirit is changed by the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ as Lord. Seek ye first the kingdom of God.(Neh. 8:8, So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense and helped them to understand the reading.) Get acquainted with the word of God and obey His commandments.
