The Calvary Stanberry & Island City Christian Churches (Galatians 2:17-20, “But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not!... I’ve been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.) ‘But if’, that little blurb in language that places a contingent on the statement. Just think of how many claim the title along with Christians yet fall into category along with the ‘But if’s’? Jesus Christ came into this world to accomplish that which would provide a method for these fleshly, yet spirit filled vessels to enter into the presence of the Holy God of Creation. ‘But if’, even, if after accepting and acknowledging and completing a ceremony of inclusion to this group we are found yet to be involved in personal sin we’ve been fooled into a sense of false security as to our eternal destination. In this letter to the churches around the area of Galatia the Apostle Paul became aware of those who had crept into the fellowship with deceptive heresies given in such a way as to comfort those willfully engaging in personal behaviors pleasing to the fleshly sinful nature. “Is Jesus Christ a minister of sin”? Did Jesus Christ come from Heaven to earth to provide a way for those who acknowledged him and his existence so they could continue without remorse to sin? (Romans 6:1-4, What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.) It would appear that the modern church has failed to inform those who desire membership of the need to be, as Jesus would say, (John 3:3, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”)

THOMAS EDWARD PARMAN APRIL 13, 1947 ❖ DECEMBER 26, 2023
Thomas Edward Parman was born on April 13, 1947, in Oakland, California. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 26, 2023. He lived in California for a short time before moving to Missouri around 1952 with his parents and younger brother, J.C. These brothers later welcomed their siblings Dan (Tank) and Cathy to their home.

The family moved around during his younger years, but Tom spent his high school years running around Grant City, Mo. before graduating with the Worth County class of 1965. He chose to extend his educational career by going on to the University of Kansas. He was a Jay Hawk fan then and continued throughout his life. That education career lasted all of one semester before he went out into the world to work.
Tom started working for Berkel & Company in 1968 and continued with this company for the next 46 years, until his retirement in 2014. He was an excellent crane operator, when not running the jobs. In the 1970ʼs, Berkel & Company was performing many projects in South Florida, which eventually led to opening the first Regional Office outside of the Kansas City Office. Tom was the lead, Number 1, Job Superintendent on these projects, and agreed to relocate his family to Florida as the region grew. He became a big part of the Companyʼs growth in the Southeast. Tom was involved in hundreds of Berkel & Company projects during his career across the United States as well as supervising projects on an international level outside of the country. Tom mentored many people during his time with Berkel & Co. He was a very easy-going man and liked by anyone who ever met him.
Tom met his wife at Toy National Bank in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a bank teller, and he was working on the construction of the new bank. Four months later, the two of them were married. They lived in the Kansas City area before moving to Florida. They had Melissa and Jeffrey completing their family. Tom and Sheryl celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 20th, 2023.
Tom loved watching football, but especially college football. He spent many hours watching and cheering. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, even though they were not colleges, he cheered avidly and loved the fact of winning Super Bowls.
Tom will be remembered for his dedicated work and his avid love for fishing. He was happy to go fishing anyplace in the world, but especially enjoyed it in Everglade City. His love for this was so much so that he and Sheryl purchased a home in Everglade City when he retired. It was perfect for him, and it was known as Paradise. He wanted to share his love for fishing with everyone he knew. His stories often started with “Dude, you should of saw the size of that Snook.”
Tom was preceded in death by his parents George and Sadie Parman, brother Dan (Tank) Parman. Tom is survived by his wife Sheryl Parman; daughter, Melissa (Andy) Crase; son, Jeffrey (Barbara) Parman; granddaughter, Sami Crase; grandsons, Zack Parman, Hunter Parman; sister, Cathy (Roger) McGahuey; brother, J.C. Parman; sister-in-law, Pam Parman; and nieces, nephews, and countless friends he has made throughout life. He was so loved!
A burial will be held at the Miller Cemetery on April 13, 2024, at 1 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Allendale, Mo. Community Center to share stories and love about Tom.
This is our last article about the outstanding and talented folks who work for YOU, the community members in the nearly 500 square miles of the Grand River Regional Ambulance District. We sincerely appreciate Perry, Susan, and the New Shopper crew for allowing us to introduce our crew members to you. We thought it would be helpful and interesting for you to get “up close and personal” with these fine men and women who you might need in an emergency and who could possibly save your life or the life of a loved one. So please allow us to introduce our final two impressive “GRRADs”: Sierra and Kassie. Sierra Eisenbarger is one of our newest GRRAD employees. She started about six months ago as our Administrative Assistant and has become yet another indispensable asset to our organization. Sierra manages our bookkeeping duties, assists Lisa Stegman, our director, and helps with whatever needs to be done in the Stanberry station. As her former supervisor said, “Sierra is a rock star,” and we agree; she is just that! Secondly, we are extremely excited and grateful that both she and her husband, Allen, are currently enrolled in our EMT class, and they will soon become part of our emergency response team. Sierra grew up in Stanberry and graduated from Stanberry R-II High School. Her mother, Traci, and stepfather, Wesley Walker, still live there as do she and Allen. Sierra says about her time at GRRAD, “I have not been here long, but I can tell you that everyone is welcoming; they want to help as much as they can! Every crew member here has made me feel like I was part of the team since day one. Everyone treats each other with respect, and it feels like a big family. I enjoy coming to work and seeing everyone throughout the day.”
When Sierra and Allen have free time, they enjoy camping, spending time with their families, and playing with their 4-legged “babies,” Boone and Blaze.
Kassie Lewis has been our part-time EMT for 5 years, and we are so thankful to have her and our other part-time staff. We honestly could not successfully function without our part-time and PRN employees. Kassie is quite an accomplished young woman beyond her emergency medical abilities. She is a graduate of Albany R-III High School, earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Missouri Western State University, and will graduate with her Master of Business Administration in December. She has worked full time at Triumph Foods in St. Joseph for the past 9 years, the last several as Inventory Control Manager overseeing $11M of inventory, and she was recently promoted to the position of Maintenance Planner/Scheduler.
Kassie grew up in Darlington and still lives there with her boyfriend, Jaisen Hinds. She says that St. Joe is cool, but Darlington is just plain better! Her mother, Jean Lewis, lives there as well, and her father, Kerry who is retired from the Gentry County Road and Bridge Crew, lives in New Hampton. Kassie has little free time because she is either working at Triumph, answering ambulance calls and caring for people in emergencies, or studying for her college classes. However, when she has a day or two to relax, she likes anything outdoors…fishing, camping, and hanging out with critters.
Kassie says of her time with GRRAD, “The atmosphere at GRRAD is much different than at Triumph. In many ways, it is

less stressful. That seems backward, but it is true. I find the family values and willingness to help are much greater with the folks working here. There is cohesion and helpfulness. The common goal is to help each other and others. Even on the most stressful days, we are there for each other. I have wanted to help people my entire life, and that is what I do at GRRAD, and the thanks we receive from those in need is the greatest reward of all.” The Board of Directors of the Grand River Regional Ambulance District is so grateful and proud of these amazing people who are incredibly dedicated to helping the citizens of our district, caring for and comforting the injured or ill, reassuring the families of those patients, and treating all who need them with skill and respect. We extend our heartfelt and deepest thanks to each and every one of our GRRAD family, and we thank all of you for reading and learning about them!
