but not to be enjoyed by all. This Psalm would be sang every year by the faithful at the beginning of the week of ‘Unleavened Bread’ as the Temple Lambs entered the city. (Psalm 118:20-24, This gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter. I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.) When considering our relationship with God we should sing this Psalm every day. This is the day the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Praise God for His mercy and grace with gladness and fullness of His eternal presence. Halleluiah, praise ye the Lord, Halleluiah. One might ask, ‘What does Halleluiah mean’? Simply put, ‘Praise ye the Lord’. This is the season to realize the reason for our faith as Christians, believers in the Messiah, the risen Savior, the Christ, that is Jesus. From the beginning of the account of the life of Jesus it was told of old that Immanuel would reside with us, that is God has come in the flesh to show the way. (Gal 4:4, But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,) The time is near, the appointed time is upon us, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Just a few lines earlier there were shouts of Joy singing, ‘Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest’. A more familiar song would be, (John 12:13, Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord). This week, we would like you to meet two more of our impressive lady EMTs, and as you will see, both serve our communities in two ways. Sierra has worked with GRRAD for a bit less than a year, and April has been a full-time EMT with us for four years but worked as a PRN responder for 5 years earlier. Both ladies normally work out of our King City station.
To reserve your seats, please send your check made to QUWF to:
TODD MARTIN
2993 US HWY 169 STANBERRY, MO 64489
Sierra Kennedy grew up in King City and graduated from King City R-I School District. She and her fiancé, Taylor O’Brien, along with their 6-year-old son, Alan, still live there as does Sierra’s mother, Tammy Walters. Before Sierra earned her EMT credentials and came to work for us at GRRAD, she worked for the Gentry County Emergency Dispatch for 2 1/2 years as a 911 operator, and she continues to provide that service! Sierra recognizes this dual role gives her a unique perspective in that she can relate to both sides of an emergency call, not only by evaluating the emergency or nonemergency situation to determine the appropriate response, but also by providing comfort and guidance to the caller from her EMT background.
She says, “The reason I am so passionate about my job, and the reason I wake up every day eager to do it, is simply because I want to help people! I became an EMT so I could help people through some of the worst moments in their lives. If I can make someone feel even a little better, then I feel I’m on the path to success.” Sierra is looking forward to advancing her medical career by becoming certified as a paramedic, and we are looking forward to her being with GRRAD for a long, long time. And when Sierra is not working at either of her two jobs or her 3rd job as a mom, she loves spending time with her family and friends, playing video games, and keeping up with Alan and her 4 cats.
April McQuate grew up in St. Joseph but now loves residing in Union Star with her husband, Brad. Serving the people in the King City/Union Star area is truly a McQuate family affair. Brad is the assistant fire chief of the Union Star Fire Protection District, April volunteers as a firefighter at the district with him, and April’s nephew is an EMT and firefighter, as well.
April began her community service 8 years ago when she first became a volunteer firefighter. She knew her community needed help with volunteerism, and eventually, she and Brad decided together that she should quit her previous factory job to do just that…she was going to help where she was needed. She took an EMT course, passed with flying colors, joined GRRAD, and has never looked back. She says, “I have always wanted to help people; truly, it has been my lifelong desire. I saw there was a need in my community, and that is why I do this, here, close to home. When I am responding to an emergency call, I can see that the callers and/or victims are relieved and comforted when they see a familiar face on, possibly, one of the worst days of their lives.”
When she isn’t saving someone’s life or putting out a fire, April is in our King City office working diligently as one of two billing administrators, and away from work, she loves being outdoors, fishing, and playing her favorite game, cornhole…and her GRRAD friends say she is a SERIOUS player! She also loves crafting and playing triominos with her family. The GRRAD board is extremely proud of the sacrifices these two caring ladies make for the betterment of our communities, and we sincerely thank them for their service!

Rodney Lee “Rod” Quinn ran into the arms of Jesus on February 21, 2024, at 1:05 A.M., with the love of his life, Dawn, by his side. He is survived by his wife Dawn Annette Quinn, daughter Shawna Lee Frazier (Keith) of Kansas City; MO, his granddaughter Jade Ferol Xian Frazier of Kansas City, MO; his granddaughter Ariel Dawn Jian Otto (Brandon), great-grandson Beau and great-granddaughter Josephine of Blue Springs, MO; three nephews who were like sons, their wives, kids and grandkids.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Aubrey Lee “Butch” and Myrtle Kathryn Quinn, his brother Robert Paul “Bob” Quinn, and his sister-in-law Margaret Quinn. Rod was born on December 12, 1936, in Albany, Missouri to “Butch” and Myrtle Kathryn Quinn. He graduated from Albany High School in 1954. Rod was always great at sports. He was a stand-out at AHS in football and basketball and he kept a love for those games being a huge KC Chiefs fan as well as a big Mizzou football and basketball fan. He spent a year at Northwest Missouri State University before making the decision to serve the country he loved by joining the United States Air Force in 1955. He was stationed for most of his time in Montgomery, AL and only saw Dawn about one time a year during those four years. After achieving the rank of Senior Airman, he was honorably discharged in 1959.
Rod married Dawn on October 18, 1959, in Marshalltown, IA. They settled back in Albany where he first worked at Wayne’s Department store on the square. After a time in retail, he moved to the grocery business by working for Hy-Vee as the produce manager. However, Rod always had the dream of owning his own business in Albany. So, in 1974, he took the plunge and opened Thunderbird Leather Shop on the east side of the square. He always had a huge respect for the Native American culture art and jewelry, so he incorporated that passion into what he created and sold. He was a skilled leather craftsman making beautiful leather goods for so many in Albany and surrounding towns. He also was the primary provider of gun holsters for the northern counties of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Rod resided in Albany until 1993 when he and Dawn realized another dream by relocating to Osage Beach, MO and buying a home on the lake. He semi-retired, taking a job in a local department store before being recruited by the store’s owner to assist with a new company at the time, Argosy Consoles. He worked there until he retired for good in 2007. They bought a pontoon boat when they first moved to the lake, and cruised the lake for many years before things got a little busier on the water than they liked, so they sold the boat and just enjoyed their lake view until they moved in 2018 to Pleasant Hill, MO to be closer to family during their later years.
Rod packed a lot of living into his 87 years! He and Dawn were active in a bowling league, horse shows, tennis, ping pong, and later in life golf and boating. They also loved to travel. Especially to the Southwest. Their last trip they logged over 3,400 miles of driving as they visited Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Their favorite places were the Grand Canyon, Taos, and Monument Valley. They loved visiting with the Native Americans in all the towns and looking for the perfect turquoise jewelry to bring back for the family. They also loved participating in any activity their granddaughters had going on, even celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary at Disney World. They traveled all over the country for dance competitions, horse shows, swim meets, art shows, band concerts, and football games (to watch the dance team and the marching band).
Rod never met a stranger and was truly liked/loved by everyone who knew him. Describing Rod was very easy as it came down to three things in this order: Faith, Family, and Freedom. He loved Jesus and as Dawn has said many times, she never met a more Godly man. Rod never uttered a foul word and he never drank a drop of alcohol and if he made a negative comment about someone, it was usually valid! Rod served his church for many years as a Deacon, chairing committees, serving on search teams for new pastors and just about anything else that the church asked of him. Rod was beyond a family man. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored his entire family and would do anything for them, including sacrificing his time, money and belongings to help them out. His pride for his wife, daughter, sonin-law, granddaughters and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. Anyone who talked to Rod for more than about ten minutes knew all of the accomplishments of his family! He was still bragging and showing pictures of everyone to the nurses and staff at the care center just days before he passed. Rod was beyond proud of his service to his country. He was always and forever an Airman! He loved his time in Montgomery and often recounted the assignments he had and the friends he made there. Spending time with Rod usually meant at least one story about the Airforce or planes!
To know Rod was truly a privilege. To be his family was beyond an honor and honestly life changing. It is completely impossible to adequately convey a life so well lived and a man so well loved.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 P.M., at Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, MO, followed by a graveside service with Military Honors at Carmack Union Church Cemetery.

James “Jim” Arthur Reese, aged 86, of Albany, MO, departed peacefully on February 18th, 2024. Throughout his adventurous life, Jim cultivated close-knit communities with his gift for fun and love of life. His ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, inviting others to share in moments of fellowship, camaraderie, (and always a dance, of course!) combined with genuine care and willingness to invest himself wholeheartedly in those who crossed his path, leave an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on June 18th, 1937, in Marshall, MN, Jim was the eldest child of Warren Larson Reese and Eva Sarah (Schroeder) Reese. He gleaned so much from his parents whose home was built on a Christian foundation, family togetherness, a strong work ethic, and service to others. Upon graduating from high school in 1955, Jim pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering degree with a minor in Business Administration. His time at the university was marked by several leadership roles. It was during his college years that he met and married Joanne (Korte), the love of his life.
The Trane Company of LaCrosse, WI, hired Jim out of college. He and Joanne were blessed with four children, a farm, and horses. Jim’s career began with engineering sales followed by various positions in management. In 1971, following a collaboration with HVAC pioneer Frank Dean, Jim accepted a position as president and COO of Temperature Industries Corporation in Kansas City, MO. In 1985, he became Chairman and CEO and shortly thereafter orchestrated a management leveraged buyout of the company and eventual sale to York International in 1989. He held several positions with York, a number of those years spent in England. In 2004, Jim left York and he co-started Air Fixture and Walnut Manufacturing to design and manufacture innovative ductless air distribution systems until his retirement in 2010 at their dream farm in Albany, MO.
Throughout his life, Jim contributed his vibrant leadership and enthusiasm by serving in many organizations, including the Minnesota National Guard; Elder, Presbyterian Church; past Chairman of the Board - Heart of America Job Therapy; Past Kansas City CARE Committee Head; Charter member of Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship; Rotary Club 13 - Paul Harris Fellow; Regional Board of Directors – Mercantile Bank, Kansas City, MO; Board of Directors of Feteris Mercantile International, The Hague, Netherlands; M-2 (Man to Man) Prison Inmate sponsor; Board of Directors - K Life; Promise Keepers; Board of Directors - Hope Mission Outreach, Bethany, MO; 11 missions trips to Haiti; past Chairman - New Hampton Christian Church; member of Albany First Baptist; charter member of New Beginnings Church, Albany, MO.
Jim lived life fully and passionately, squeezing every drop out of each moment, smiling his big fun-loving grin all the way. He enjoyed traveling, adventure, meeting people, tackling any challenge before him. He was generous and forgiving, caring more about helping others than worldly success. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and the incredible friends along the way.
In every chapter of his life, Jim’s relationships were a testament to his genuine warmth, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched, an example of the power of faith and friendship and the profound impact one individual can have on the world around them.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Eva Reese; his parents-in-law, Bill and Wanda Korte; his dear brother, Bill Reese and his precious daughter-in-law, Rose Reese. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne; two daughters and their spouses, Cindy (Raymond) Russell of Henderson, TX, Andrea (Karl) Wagner of Prairie Village, KS; two sons, Curt Reese of Olathe, KS and Chris Reese of Stillwell, KS. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren starting with their first grandchild, Shanon (Jeff) Sieb, followed by Reese (Scarlette) Wagner, Amanda Russell, Sophie Wagner, Shaffer Russell, and Kaylee and Ava Reese; and 4 greatgrandchildren, Chris Buscemi, Julia Buscemi, Sam Buscemi, and Riverton Wagner. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Ogle (Dr. Dick) of Lakeville, MN, Marylin Webber (Jon) of Simsbury, CT, and Susie Freng (Paul) of Miltona, MN; sister-in-law Judy Reese of Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law Carolyn (Korekiyo) Terada of Fukuoka, Japan, brother-in-law Mark (Renee) Korte of Ione, CA; and many cherished nieces and nephews. An informal celebration of Jim’s life was held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W 87th St Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66219. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to New Beginnings Church Building Fund, 1002 N. 10th Street, Albany MO, 64402.

I wish to express my deepest gratitude for all those who helped me out before, during, and after my recent surgery. It has been three weeks and I am now at home recovering well.
I would like to especially thank my sister and her husband (Mary and Neal Hailey) for chauffering me to all my appointments and to and from the hospital in Kansas City. My sister stayed with me at the hospital for the four days before I was released. She also stayed with me the first few days after I came home. My special thanks to Brytanni Sparks for feeding and caring for my precious dogs and to Sheila Curry for stopping by to keep them company. My cousin Marian Carter and her daughter Gayle spent much appreciated time with me at the hospital. My cousin Tara Wilmes was always there offering to pick up anything I might need. I also want to thank my very great friends, Susan and David Hibbs for keeping an eye on my property while I was gone. It gave me peace of mind that all was well at home.
With much gratitude, I would like to reach out to all those, known and unknown, who offered up their prayers for me and my recovery.
Those prayers have truly been answered. I am very blessed to have a wonderful support system of caring people surrounding me. With God’s Love and Blessings
