sus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. ‘This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’) God gave those who had been freed from slavery commandments to follow as a guide of how to treat each other and ‘God almighty’ himself. Here in the book of Matthew Jesus divides the ’10 Commandments’ into two sections. The 1st four or maybe five have to do with our relationship with God and the last five or six have to do with our relationship with each other. I’ve heard it said the last five or six are of the horizonal whereas the 1st 4 or 5 are vertical. Some may question this division but if you take a good look at the Ten Commandments, you’l see it’s all about relationship. The ‘1st’, ‘1’ and only God and Him only shall we worship. The ‘2nd’ is not to create anything physical to worship. The ‘3rd’ is to guard our words as we wil be judged by ‘every idle word that proceeds out of our mouth’(Matt 12:36). ‘4th’ is to set aside a day to worship (Matt 12:8). ‘5th’ “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.’ As we honor our parents, we also honor God, as children are a gift from the Lord. ‘6th’ No Murder. ‘7th’ No Adultery. ‘8th’ No Theft. ‘9th’ Lie. ‘10th’ Not to Covet or desire with lust. If you think about it all Ten of God’s Commandments are Vertical as each is either a ‘Sin of commission or omission’. I’ve heard it said that the Commandments in the ’Old Testament’ are of the ‘Law’ and not under ‘Grace’ but Jesus said: (Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.) I encourage you to read on in Matt. 5 as the judgement of Jesus is of the heart and mind not only in the physical. Pastor Bill Bracken

~ Obituary ~ Rodney J. Green
March 24, 1943 v Marh 23, 2022
Rodney (Rod) J. Green departed this earth to go to heaven on March 23, 2022 while surrounded by family. He was born on March 24, 1943, to James and Minerva Green of Albany, Missouri where he grew up, raised his family and retired. Rod is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy, of the home as well his daughters Taira and her husband Steve Kelley of Weatherby Lake and Robyn (Green) Akins of Albany. He was the oldest of three sons and is survived by his brother Rob and his wife, Phyllis, of California, Missouri and preceded in death by his brother Roger. He leaves behind his granddaughter and apple of his eye, Harper Gentry Akins who affectionately named him “Papa,” as well as “bonus” grandchildren Cole Kelley of Liberty, Missouri and Tori and Trevor Akins of Albany. He is additionally survived by three nephews Jeremy of Portageville, Shane of Warrensburg and Dustin of Higginsville as well as niece Landrien of Kansas City, Missouri. Known for his whit and humor, Rod was a friend to all who crossed his path. Early in his career he taught high school biology in Albany where in true Rod Green fashion he donned a dress to show his humorous support of the first allowance of female teachers to wear slacks. Rod spent the largest share of his vocational career with the Missouri Department of Conservation as a zoologist where he was instrumental in writing curriculum including the Missouri Hunters Safety Manual as well as teaching many teachers and youth about wildlife (including the famous snake story) and sharing his love of the great outdoors. Rod is the proud author of “Up Gentry County Way: Reflections on nature and conservation from the collection of Outdoors in Northwest Missouri,” a product of his decades of writing articles for nearly two dozen newspapers and magazines including Field and Stream, Ducks Unlimited and Missouri Life. His teaching and articles where often laced with funny stories of hunting, fishing, camping and enjoying nature. Rod served as the President of the Association for Conservation Information; a non-profit organization dedicated to natural resource conservation representing the state of Missouri for decades. This is where he met friends and follow-conservationist, known far and wide as “the five pack” who shared tall tales, shenanigans and bonds that transcended decades. Rod truly exemplified the meaning of a Christian family man putting faith and family first, always there for his wife, children, family and friends. His generosity knew no bounds as he was always willing to share his love, laughter and orneriness. Rod and the family request any donations be made to the First Baptist Church youth development fund.
IT IS WITH GREAT SORROW THAT THIS WEEK’S NEW SHOPPER WILL CARRY THE LAST HY-VEE AD INSERT. Before anyone starts to get upset or express any anger towards our local HyVee store, management or employee in Albany & Grant City HyVee You need to know they had very, very little to do with this decision. I am so very grateful to the absolutely amazing people we have had the distinct honor to represent from the top to the bottom at both locations. I am hopeful that we will be able to, from time to time, bring you an ad in the pages of our paper as time passes by, and hopefully they will see fit to bring them back at some point. We have formed a large bond between us and our customers and when major changes take place, we aren’t any different than anyone else, it makes us very uneasy about the days, months and years to come. I am in no way wishing them ill-will, just letting you know that you will probably not get another insert in our paper. It seems as though social media and the TV air waves have lured them to their side and way of thinking and doing business. This will not kill our paper, if any of you know us very well, you will know that we will land on our feet and will never say NO to the good things. Thank you to the current HyVee management of the Albany, Grant City & Tarkio HyVee Food Stores for being as loyal to us as they could possibly be without jeopardy to their careers, their management teams and all the rest of the associates that have come through their doors over the past many years. They are great assets to our communities and I hope you will all give them as much thought in making your purchases as you can possibly afford to do. We need them. Well, this has been long enough and is a very emotional time for our family, our co-workers and their families. If this bothers you to the point of wanting to tell someone, the local store is not the place for that, although, they probably should hear it as well. Please go to HyVee.com and contact them there. I don’t have any phone numbers for you to call I don’t know if you will get any response, but at least you will have tried. We have been told that the store will have a limited amount of printed ads in the store to pick up. And scan the “H” QR code for that specific day, week or month. This appears to be a permanent decision and no amount of bargaining we have done in the past or present has made much difference. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have gone the full ride with promoting and encouraging all of us to shop at our local stores. I wonder now, if it ever really made a difference. Thank you to our loyal readers, we know for a fact that you make a big difference in how our advertisers receive your business and I hope you will continue to read us every week.
