The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (Matthew 14:26-27, And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”) “It is I”; How many times in our lives have we heard the voice of Jesus after a moment of anxiety and fear? This situation occurred as the disciples struggled against the wind and waves long enough that they were quite desperate, when suddenly seeing someone walking on the water they cried out in fear as the vision came closer and closer. Jesus is here for everyone each and every, day but quite often fearful until he gets close enough for us to hear his voice. These are times of testing, testing to see how far our faith will take us. The bible tells us that we are not to retreat into ourselves but to be in the world interacting and reacting to the ways of the flesh and society. These men had been with Jesus long enough to see many of the miraculous deeds and hear the words of the one who had been foretold from long ago, yet faith was yet to be one of their strong suits. Peter, on the other hand was willing to take that step of faith but lacked the strength and maturity to continue in it. (Matt 14:28-29, Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. “So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”) Standing for faith, standing in faith with a group can seem quite comfortable yet when stepping out on our own a person often returns to the understanding of what we have accomplished of our own device. The group together could not accomplish of their own strength as even the presence of Jesus brought about a sense of fear as their ability and strength had proven to be in vain. But upon hearing the voice of Jesus they were strengthened until their confidence was once again shattered as in their own understanding they doubted. ‘Look up as our redemption draws nigh.’ In Jesus name,

~OBITUARY~ Clayton Lee Stitt March 4, 1941 - March 10, 2022 Clayton Lee Stitt, 81, Pattonsburg, MO. The sun rose for Clayton Lee Stitt on March 4, 1941, and the sun set for him on March 10, 2022 at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital. Clayton was born at home in Pattonsburg, Missouri to Lawrence and Idas Etta (Holcomb) Stitt. He graduated High School in Pattonsburg in 1958 and was then married the same year to Janice DeWitt. Clayton and Janice were blessed with 4 children. Later in life, he was divorced and met Gwen Conn, whom he spent eleven years with before they married in 1994. Clayton unselfishly became a second father to Gwen’s 3 children. Clayton was born and raised to be a farmer. He was a welder for Sweiger Shop, Inc. for 25+ years, and more recently drove trucks and farm equipment for multiple companies. Clayton had a knack for fixing all things mechanical. Clayton had many beloved hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, dancing, gardening, traveling, bowling and most importantly, tractor pulling. Clayton belonged to Northwest Pulling Association, Twin States Pulling Association and to a bowling league for more than 20 years. Recently, he served on the board of the Pattonsburg Senior Center and he was a member of the Bethany First Assembly of God Church. Clayton was very friendly and personable, so much so, that he believed every new person was a friend he hadn’t yet met. Clayton’s best attribute was that he always looked for the good in people, even when nobody else could see it. Clayton loved to tell stories and jokes to keep people laughing with a fun-loving genuine nature. He was always there for his family and friends, and he was always eager to help anyone in need. He loved spending time with each of his 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, often including their friends as part of his family. Clayton was preceded in death by his son, Michael Stitt and his parents, Lawrence & Idas Stitt. Clayton is survived by his wife, Gwen Stitt, his sister, Betty Stratton, and his children, Marvin Stitt, Sandra Goble, Duane Stitt, Pamala Lambert, Trinity Walton, Hollie Walton and their spouses, significant others, families, numerous cousins and an uncountable number of friends. Clayton has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Memorial Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Assembly of God Church, Bethany, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens, Pattonsburg, MO. Memorials may be made to the Clayton Stitt Memorial Fund to be designated later in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com

This year’s production of “Monty Python’s SPAMALOT” has been a complete rollercoaster & I have greatly enjoyed the ride. I want to give special thanks to those who sponsored the play this year. Each year, students are sent out into the community to sell sponsorships to businesses and individuals in order to raise money for the various costs associated with putting on the play. Each year we have had fantastic support from the community, but this year has topped the charts with record numbers of sponsors. So many of you gave our students tremendous support in the form of sponsorships, raffle ticket purchases, donations, and attendance at one or both performances. Several of the businesses that sponsored also donated items to go into the raffle buckets. Overall, the outpouring of support was extremely humbling and much appreciated. Many thanks from the cast, crew, directors, and all others that were involved with this year’s production. We couldn’t have done this without you.

2x3 ~ OBITUARY ~
Joe Manley SH 3-16-22 Tillison
1939 v 2022 Known to most as “Manley”, Joe Manley Tillison was born to Mildred (Beal) Tillison and John Dean “JD” Tillison on April 11,1939 at home in the Arbuckle Mountains above Turner Falls Park near Davis, Oklahoma. During his childhood, he lived at Turner Falls where his family built vacation cabins, ran the gate and the concession stand for the City Park. He met his wife, Geraldine “Jeri” Tillison when he was 18 while she was visiting the Falls. They moved to Jacksonville, FL then to St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1970, the Tillison family moved to Camp Woodland in Albany, Missouri when Manley became the Superintendent of Properties for the Midland Empire Girl Scout Council through his retirement in 2004. Manley was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Juanita Faye (Tillison) Newman, son Joe Michael, and wife Jeri. He left a legacy of love for and is survived by his children and their spouses: Jeff Sprague and Julia Hollars, Kathy (Sprague) Morgan and Terry Morgan, Karen (Conrad) Willoughby and Tim Willoughby; Lyanne “Lee” (Tillison) Langerock and Keith Langerock; grandchildren- Shawn Sprague, Chad Sprague, Vincent Crowley Jr., Melissa Newman, Paula Newman, Ivy (Baker) Reger, Micah Baker, Melanie (Morgan) Fish, and Tara (Morgan) Dodge as well as their spouses, beloved great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, brother-in-law Haden Newman, nephews and nieces. Manley studied carpentry at an early age, first as an apprentice rock mason for his father then as a vocation. Along with carpentry, Manley was a rodeo wrangler and worked for Armour’s Meatpacking plant in St Joseph prior to the Albany move. He still practiced construction throughout his career including improvements at Camp Woodland, restoration at the Rigney Theater, and with Keith and Lee’s manufacturing company in the 1990’s. Along with his work at Camp Woodland, for a number of years he co-owned the Camp horse-back riding program with his daughter Kat. In the 80’s and 90’s he was known as “Smokin Joe” as Manley and Jeri owned Smokin Joe’s BBQ known throughout Northwest Missouri and Southern Iowa for their BBQ Sauce, pulled pork, ribs, and smoked chicken. Manley graduated in 1976 from Missouri Western State University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Manley’s hobbies were fishing, history, pondering, and politics (local). Manley served for over 40 years as an elected public servant to the community in several capacities including on the Rural Water District, Athens Township Board, and the Albany City Council. Always interested in bettering the community, Manley contributed to the formation of the Albany Fire Protection District and improvements at Gentry County Memorial Hospital and Carnage Library. Manley led by example. He was a smart, quiet, thoughtful, observant, humble person who was slow to anger, compassionate and caring, and who always shared an engaging smile. He approached life with practical wisdom and a quick sense of humor that is cherished and will be missed. Graveside Farewell Services & Interment 1:00 P.M.
