Connor was born April 8 1998 at Boone Hospi tal in Columbia, MO to Dennis and Bonita (Burgin) Fitzmaurice. Connor attended Columbia Public Schools his whole school life and graduated from Rockbridge High School in 2016. Connor went to college at both Moberly Area Junior College and Mizzou and graduated in 2020 with a degree in Computer Technology. Connor felt a call, in the summer of 2021, to be a part of the Friar Minis try with the Roman Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. Connor did answer the call to the Augustinian Or der in Chicago where he volunteered, studied, and was a Chess Coach at the local Catholic School. Con nor felt something different in his heart than the Augustinian Friar life and returned to Columbia in 2023. Connor worked for Central Bank of Boone County in the Call Center.
Connor was an old soul with deep faith. He was smart, funny and never did anything unkind to anyone. Connor was honest and felt things deeply. Connor battled doubt, anxi ety and depression for years and on Tuesday, February 12, he made an impulsive decision and ended his life. Now we must continue our lives without his light. He was 25. Our lives will never be the same.
Connor is survived by his parents, Dennis Patrick and Bonita Kay (Burgin) Fitzmaurice, his sister Ann Marie Fitzmaurice, her fiancé Wolfgang Schaefer all of Columbia MO, his grandmother, Judy Fitzmaurice of O’Fallon MO, Aunts and Uncles, Barth Burgin (Cynthia), Bendi Burgin, Mark Smith, Jenny Ashley (Billy), Kelly Krupper (Jim), and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Burgin and Carol Smith, paternal grandfather Jerry Patrick Fitzmaurice, and a cousin Quentin Burgin.

assurance. The Apostle Paul is in Prison, hence the reference to being in chains of which I can imagine his vision of ministry would be somewhat bleak at that moment. Notice that his desire for prayers do not begin with his situation but that those who go to God in prayer do so with a spirit of thanksgiving. Yes, when we go to God in prayer, we should humble our existence, no matter how dreary the situation may seem by looking forward with the knowledge that our name is written down in God’s book of life. Prayer is essential for a believer in remaining connected to the one who has given His creation the will and ability to choose. (Phil 4:6-7, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.) Once again, Paul lets us know and I wonder if he is expressing his own heart as this is his way of remaining faithful even when the ways of the flesh and world seem to be too difficult to bear. To the church in Phillipi, Paul acknowledges that we will come to God with our personal request, the request for others yet all to be done with the spirit of ‘Thanksgiving’. I’ve found that in the guidebook for relationship with God there’s an element of communication we often miss by not expressing thanks to God. When Paul had visited Philippi, his ministry did not always follow the positive. (Phil 16:25, But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.) Even while being unjustly punished in prison Paul would sing praises to God.

Jacquelin “Jackie” (Ward) Trainer, 94, a for mer rural New Hampton, Missouri resident, en tered into rest on February 26th, 2024. She was born in Pasadena, California on April 2, 1929, the daughter of Ralph and Beulah (Carter) Ward. She graduated high school earning an art scholarship to Chouinard Art School. On August 31, 1947 she met and married Bill Trainer who was serving in the Navy. After he completed his service with the military, they moved to Greenville, Illinois area to follow Bill’s dream to farm. Raising a family of three sons and a daughter they worked hard to de velop a farming operation. During this time, Jackie continued her art career of oil painting and teach ing adult education through the Southern Illinois University program. In addition she organized an artist colony, created an informal group of Friday artists that met in her basement studio and participated in dozens of art shows. Jackie received many awards during her 60 year career in art.
Always important to Jackie was her faith in Jesus Christ. On her paintings of later years, she signed her work with the Philippians 4:8 verse. Bill and Jackie raised their family in the Christian Church for which they are grateful.
In 1978, they moved their farming operation to northwest Missouri near the Albany area. They lived and farmed there until Bill’s death in 2000. Following this Jackie moved to Nortonville, Kansas to be closer to family.
She is survived by: eldest son’s wife, Terry; grandchildren, Tina Davis (Isaac), Paul Trainer (Morgan), Jake Trainer (Sierra), Ally Livengood (Drew); son, Bob Trainer (Donna); grandchildren, Don Trainer, Cristy Schneider (Wade), Amy Gamble (Shane), Tammy Gonza- les (Patrick); son, Joe Trainer (Susan); grandchildren, Kevin Trainer (Alexis), Scott Trainer (Ashley) Brian Trainer; daughter, Kathy Burns (Tom); grandchildren, Lisa Geminn, Amie Harris; 19 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Trainer, son Mike Trainer, parents Ralph and Beulah (Carter) Ward, brother and sister-in-law Elton and Jeanne Ward, in-laws Frank and Hazel (Morgan) Trainer, granddaughter Sylvia Trainer, great-grandson Bryant Livengood.

Creed’s Fight for Sight!
Fundraiser for Kyla and Derek Williams in honor of their son, Creed Williams. In September, their son was diagnosed with a rare disease called Coats’ Disease. The incidence of Coats’ Disease is 0.09 per 100,000 population. So far, Creed has undergone 4 procedures with his eye at Childrens Mercy. Unfortunately, CMH has done all that they can at this point and are referring Creed to an out of state specialist to have a surgery performed where they will cut into his eye. We don’t know all of the specifics yet, as they are still waiting to hear. But, it sounds like they will be making multiple trips to Detroit, Michigan to stay for a few days, then follow back up with CMH. We are hoping that the proceeds raised from these shirts can help with the unexpected costs of flights, hotels, gas, and car rentals. We also hope that this shirt can help bring awareness to this rare disease.
If you would rather donate directly to the family, an account called “In Benefit of Creed” has been created at BTC Bank. We will be taking orders until March 8th. There will be approximately a 2-3 week turn around after the order is submitted. All shirts will be available for porch pickup at the Williams’ residence. If you live out of town, we can ship for an extra $5. Please make sure you tell us if you want it shipped.
Please contact Betty, Jamie, or Erin for orders. We ask that you please make your payment when placing your order. We are accepting cash or checks made out to Derek or Kyla Williams.
Thank you so much for your support. Creed is so excited to see everyone wearing his shirt that he helped design!
On February 24, 2024 Randy Dean Poppa, age 56, passed away at his home surrounded by family. He had held off cancer for many years, enjoying life along the way. Randy was the first born of Larry Dean and Cheryl Lynn (Smith) Poppa. His earthly sojourn began on November 22, 1967 at the Fairfax Community Hospital in Fairfax Missouri.
Randy grew up on the family farm outside of Tarkio. He spent his days riding dirt bikes, mowing lawns, putting up hay, walking beans, helping a carpenter, raising sheep, going camping, and rid- ing horses with his cousin Shelley. He spent many Saturday nights in Corning Iowa helping his Dad and brother race street stock cars.
In 1986 Randy graduated from Tarkio High School. He went on to gain a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Tarkio College in December of 1990. Randy married Kristie Moore near Blanchard MO on June 23, 1990. On their seventh wedding anniversary, they were sealed in the St. Louis Temple for eternity. During the first few years of their marriage the couple lived in Maryville, Tarkio, and Westboro before making their home in Albany.
While attending college, Randy began working at Pizza Hut in Tarkio where he delivered pizzas and became a pro at doing dishes. Shortly after graduating college, Randy became the operator and eventually partial owner of 10th Street Restaurant in Tarkio. While operating 10th Street, the couple also acquired, and lived in, the Big T Motel across the street. In 1995 when the couple moved to Albany, Randy worked for a short time building log homes, then worked at Our Home Town Market. Randy then worked at Hogue Lumber for 8 years. In 2005 Randy felt inspired to open a family restaurant, something he felt would benefit the community. In November, Poppa’s Family Restaurant opened its doors and has served the community for the past 18 years. In 2019 Randy and Kristie also acquired Grand River Car Wash, along with their son and bonus daughter.
Randy loved to push himself. He competed in the MR340, which is the world’s longest non-stop river race, that occurs yearly on the Missouri River across Missouri. He first completed the 340 mile race in 2014 in a canoe with his daughters, Megan and Sarah. They finished in 63 hours and 24 minutes. The next year he completed it with his son Daniel and they finished it with a time of 46:55. This time let them become members of the 50 hour club. Randy treasured these moments and all the other memories he created with his children.
Randy’s life was spent in service to the Lord, his family, and his community. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Randy has held many callings in the church, including: ward clerk, counselor in the bishopric, building maintenance, primary teacher, Melchizedek Priesthood Leader, Elders Quorum President and more.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and niece Renee. He is survived by his wife Kristie and their 8 children; Megan (Ben), Daniel (Holly), Sarah (Tanner), Emily, Jordan, Timothy, Paul, and Samuel. He has one grandson Luke and a granddaughter arriving in May. Randy is also survived by his sister Traci, brother Michael (Kim), Uncle Burt, Aunts Amy & Judy, several nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved family members. In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider a memorial contribution. Any Memorial contributions received will be used by the Poppa family to give back to their loving community.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, MO. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery, McFall, MO. Online condolences: www.robersonpolleychapel.com

Meet Your
Grand River
Regional Ambulance
District (GRRAD) Crew
Truman Doolittle
Alex Rivas
This week, we want to introduce two young men who have not only been lifesavers for GRRAD for several years, but each has also served in the military before coming to us. Truman was in the Air Force for 10 years and Alex is still serving as a medic in the Army Reserve. Both Truman and Alex work from the Stanberry station most of the time.
Truman Doolittle grew up in Ridgeway graduating from high school there in 1996 and now lives in Bethany with his sweet wife, Jennifer. They are the proud parents of 4 children: daughters Tayla Brant (25) and Haylea Jennings (21), and their two sons: Isaac (20) and Zander (16). Tayla lives in St. Joseph, Haylea and Isaac both live in the Bethany area, and Zander, at home.
Truman enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school, officially the United States Air Force Security Forces. He started his military career at the Whiteman AF Base near Knob Noster, Mo, then went to the Incirlik Air Base near Adana, Turkey and spent his last term at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.
Truman is an incredibly terribly, busy guy…he not only works part-time at GRRAD, but he also works part-time at the Grundy County Ambulance in Trenton and works full-time for NTA Ambulance District in Bethany. He has been a paramedic for 4 years and with us for 2, and says he became a medic to help people in need. Truman has obviously dedicated himself to doing just that! He said “I came to help GRRAD at a time when the district was critically short on staffing, and particularly short on ALS (advanced life support-paramedic) staff. I felt that I could come over and make a difference because I knew they needed help so badly. I was welcomed by the leadership and the crew members, and I truly felt appreciated even though I was a brand-new paramedic.” Truman was indeed a lifesaver when we desperately needed it.
When Truman is not working, which is not often as you can see, he enjoys being with his family and loves to go scuba diving, which again, is not often! And speaking of scuba diving, Truman is a “public safety diver” for NTA and dives anywhere he is needed. He trains (and has fun) regularly at Table Rock Lake near Branson.
Alex Rivas has been an EMT for 8 years and has been with us for 3+ years. He lives in Stanberry with his wife, Kathryn (Katie) Rivas, and their 2 little ones. Katie serves our community, too, as a police officer for the Gentry County Sheriff’s Office. Alex grew up in Bethany and Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School. As you saw earlier, he has been a reservist combat medic for the past 8 years in the 2nd Medical Brigade unit in Independence, MO. He was deployed to Stanford, CT in March 2020 on a Covid Relief Mission and also served in Kuwait in 2021. Adding to his service repertoire, he has worked as a dispatch operator in our Gentry County 911 office, and recently, Alex was accepted into the nursing program at North Central Missouri College’s Savannah location. We congratulate Alex on that accomplishment!
The Grand River Regional Ambulance District Board of Directors is extremely proud of these fine gentlemen; we thank them for their service, and we are so grateful they have chosen to work with us and for our communities.
