This is the season when many look back on the past year and resolve to make a change. Thus, many of us make a ‘New Year’s Resolution’. According to the pollsters, somewhere between 26 and 56 percent of our neighbors and friends will make a formal resolution to live an improved life in 2023. These resolutions span a wide variety of lifestyle changes, everywhere from getting more exercise, losing weight, sticking to a financial budget, making more money, getting more sleep, making new friends and spending more time with family. While all these resolutions are very admirable and could add to the fabric of being a better person, there’s a resolution that can guarantee stability in life even when uncertainties and failure messes up the mix leaving us with disappointment, sadness, sorrow and loneliness. The greatest resolution of all is recorded right here in the 34th Psalm as our heart desires to bless the Lord. Yes, start this year focused on blessing the Lord without limiting our thoughts on those things we perceive as a blessing within ourselves. (Hebrews 13:5, Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.) Let us begin every day with a mindset focused on blessing the Lord, even before we get out of bed. Praise God for the gift of life, give God glory for those pleasant memories even if long since passed. Give God glory for our abilities, eyesight, taste and smell. Bless the Lord, give thanks to God with a humble heart living with the joy of Jesus as He fills us with the true appreciation for life. Bless God, as Jesus the Christ has most certainly Blessed us!
