September 24, 1955 v December 9, 2023 Steven C. “Steve” Scott, 68, of Waterloo, IL, died December 9, 2023, in St. Louis, MO. He was born September 24, 1955, in Valdosta, GA. Whoever said never to trust a man with two first names never met Steve Scott. You didn’t have to know Steve for long to know he was the type of person you could count on, whether you were a stranger, customer, neighbor, friend, or a member of his beloved family. He could talk your ear off, but the silence he’ll leave in his wake will be deafening. Steve had a sharp, analytical mind that he constantly pushed with new challenges and ideas. Not one to let age or illness slow him down, he lived vivaciously, letting his kindness, joy, values, and ambition guide him until the ❦ very end. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Max Scott, and is survived by his wife, Cathy Scott; daughters Melissa (Dave) Anderson, Kristin (Jarod) Chiasson, and Abby Norwood; grandchildren Carter, Riley, Thália, Cecilia, Olivier, Julian, Norah, and Lennon; mother, Claudine Sue McDowell; and sister, Linda (Eddie) Scott. David Lee Garland, 72, of Darlington, Missouri, passed away at his home on December 13, 2023. He was born November 17, 1951, at the Community Hospital of Fairfax, Missouri and raised on a farm in rural Watson area of Atchison County, Missouri. There he helped with the farm work and attended Lone Cedar and Rock Port Schools. After graduation in 1969, Dave enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1970 – 1976 and honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then moved from Atchison County to Gentry County with his parents and family to continue farming on the same farm where he lived and worked to the current day. He was a God-fearing hardworking man whose life centered on Faith and farming. Dave and his son Justin, from a previous marriage, who was born to him in 1976 were both baptized into Christ together in 1987. Dave was a member of the Church of Christ in Albany, where he met and married his wife Jerri (Carlock) on February 20, 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents Velmer and Charlotte, a sister-in-law, and other aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jerri of the home; son, Justin (Samantha) of Albany; brother, Steve of Maryland; mother-in-law, Barbara Carlock (Clariyle Cossins); cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial with Military Rites was held at the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. Memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice and can be mailed to Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402. Online condolences: www.robersonpolleychapel.com

Donald Eugene Lykins, 92, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Pine View Manor in Stanberry, Missouri. He was born December 31, 1930 in Alanthus Grove (Jerk), Missouri, the son of Harve and Flossie (Nelson) Lykins. Donald married Phyllis Marie Miller. Donald held various jobs. He was a mechanic at Lykins Implement International in Albany, but he mainly farmed. In his leisure time he was an avid hunter. He loved to listen to the sound of the hounds. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Harvene, son, Harve and one niece. Survivors: children, Terry (Linda) Lykins, McFall, MO; Lois Green, Fairbury, NE; Phillip Lykins, McFall, MO; G. Mark Lykins, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Shaunna Heyde, Michael and Jesse Lykins, Dusty, Casey and Cody Green, Mandi Hill, Derek and Montana Lykins; great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. January 19, 1946 v December 11, 2023 Janet Lee Allison (nee Quinn) passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 77 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was born on January 19, 1946, in Los Angeles, California to Leiva and (Elby) Curtis Quinn. They preceded her in death. Janet was the beloved wife of Laton Allison for more than 57 years, married on August 12, 1966, in the First Christian Church in Stanberry. She was the loving mother of Tracy Lee Boone (Tom) and Craig Tyler Allison (Marci). She was also a cherished “Gram” to Sally Boone, Jane Boone, Henry Boone, Charlie Boone, and Jo❦ seph Allison. Janet attended NWMSU and was a proud Wichita State alumni. She worked in many fields including business education, accounting and bookkeeping, tax preparation, U.S. Census counter, and was a fiscal officer at Northwest Regional Council for 10 years. She was active in her community as a member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a board member of Rolling Hills Creative Living, past Stanberry school board member, serving three years as president. She was a dedicated genealogist and passionate about preserving Stanberry’s history. Janet was a member of the National Society of the United States Daughters of Eighteen Hundred and Twelve, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Stanberry Historical Society. She was known for her exceptional qualities of generosity, patience, intelligence, gentleness, kindness and compassion. She loved watching college basketball, especially her Wichita State Shockers or any team from the colleges one of her grandkids attended. An avid solver of puzzles, including crosswords, sudoku, or even untangling a knot in a necklace chain. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, at Alanthus Grove Church of Christ under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO. Burial followed at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Janet’s name to the Stanberry Planning and Development Corporation in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. This time of year, we see many things that are commonly associated with Christmas but have absolutely nothing to do with the true reason for the season. The main concern seems to be how to purchase presents in a timely manner as to ensure the packages will arrive on time for that day. There’s an all-out effort by society to blur and dilute the miraculous event of the virgin birth by the intermingling of a fable about one who is given credit for being supernatural in delivering gifts to little children. This fable leaves the little children with a sense of awe and wide-eyed enthusiasm on Christmas morning as they give thanks to the one who came from the North Pole during the night to deliver gifts. What happens when these little children learn the truth? Truth that had been blended with the fable and paid for with money that many can barely afford as the season soon passes from memory.
