Thatʼs A Mighty Big Raccoon!
“Couper Simmons harvested a 35 pound and 0 ounces raccoon while hunting with his brother Hunter Simmons in Worth County. They contacted Corporal Brandon Lyddon who weighed the raccoon at a certified scale. The current MDC state record raccoon is 28 pounds and 8 ounces. New records are determined at the end of the hunting and trapping seasons.”
(Isaiah 9:6, For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given) 700 years before the birth of Jesus the word of promise was given to a man by the name of Isaiah. The promise was that God would bring forth a gift to the entire world that would be everlasting. The season of giving comes around every year with the anticipation of traditional signs of the times. The beautiful colored lights, presents wrapped with an eclectic array of sparkly colored paper and of course the beautifully colored bows to set off this most picturesque element to adorn our homes, offices, store fronts and even churches. Here in Stanberry the community does and has for many years adorned the city square with statements of the true reason for the season. (For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given). This, being a tradition, of which sets as a reminder that no matter how much commercialism through advertising enters our homes the excitement of opening the presents will soon fade away. The beautiful wrapping paper and bows will be discarded, the ornaments put back in storage along with the tree that seems so bare before it disappears until another year. Now, back to the promise of God and His everlasting gift: (And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.) (Matt 1:23, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”) As a gift, the eternal presence of God came into this world of the temporary to those who would receive. Yes, the gift of eternal life, the gift that does not fade nor grow less in appreciation as the days pass and the seasons change. The gift of eternal life becomes more and more precious as the seasons of our lives seem to become shorter and the anticipation increases from the moment; we accepted the gift by faith in believing. (Luke 21:28, when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.) As we walk this sod, we’re in awe of the beauty of the promise, yet this is the time of anticipation as we look forward to experiencing the gift of eternal life.
Couper is on the right and Hunter is on the left.
