The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.) ‘Tis the season of giving as we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child. As we go through life there are certain symbols that become synonymous with events, items, or times of our lives. Jesus was having the Passover Seder with the disciples and as he broke the bread and raised the cup proclaiming: “As often as you eat of the bread and drink of the cup do it in remembrance of Me”. We call this ceremony communion of which some churches partake regularly and others seldom but nontheless these are just two of the many physical items that are to bring about a mindful surge in our mind’s eye as we recall that moment when Jesus hung upon the cross, body beaten as His blood dripped down to the ground as the only sacrifice for death, that is, sin. Now back to the annual winter celebration of the baby in the manger, the sights and sounds of the stable and the nativity. Every year this tradition should bring our souls to a sense of awe believing the promise of the Word of God in spirit and truth. (John 1:14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.) Yes, the promise was realized some two thousand years ago when, as the prophet would say: (Isaiah 7:14, Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.) For 700 years the world waited for the Word of God in anticipation for the promise to become reality, and when it did: God made the announcement in an awe-inspiring way. (Luke 2:8-14, Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.) The symbolism of Christmas lights that shine brightly at night. “The Very First Christmas Day” is an original Christmas story poem that tells of the Saviorʼs birth in Bethlehem. His parents had no money, although He was a King— An angel came to Joseph one night as he dreamed. “Donʼt be afraid to marry her, this child is Godʼs own Son,” And with these words from Godʼs messenger, their journey had begun. They traveled to the city, their taxes to be paid— But when Christ was born they found no place for the baby to be laid. So they wrapped Him up and used a lowly manger for His bed, With nothing else but straw to place beneath the Christ-childʼs head.
