~OBITUARY~ Anna Lee (Parman) Cousins March 7, 1922 - December 2, 2021
Anna Lee (Parman) Cousins, 99, Albany, Missouri, formerly of Denver, Missouri peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Albany. Anna Lee was born March 7, 1922, in rural Gentry County, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elma (James) Parman. She attended Hurst country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Grant City High School, with the class of 1940. Anna Lee finished her education at a business school in Kansas City. She continued staying in Kansas City where she worked as a secretary. On March 9, 1944, Anna Lee married the love of her life, J.R. Cousins. After J.R. was discharged from the Army, they lived in Columbia, Missouri where she worked while J.R. was enrolled in the school of Agriculture at Missouri University. Later, they moved to Platte City, Missouri and Bethany, Missouri where he was an extension agent. They moved to the family farm where she and J.R. lived and farmed for 46 years. When they retired from the farm in 1996, they moved to Albany where Anna Lee still lived. J.R. preceded her in death in 2001. Anna Lee was a member of the Methodist Church where she served faithfully assuming multiple roles and responsibilities. As a disciple of Christ, and claiming Him as her Lord and Savior, she extended grace and love to everyone she knew and met. Others preceding her in death were her parents, an infant brother Max, a beloved daughter Nancy Lee (Cousins) Prather, a beloved son Dr. John Parman Cousins, brother Dr. Russell Parman, sister Gwenetha (Parman) Girling. Her survivors include daughters, Mary Bess (Bob) Venegoni, Annette (Craig) Holzem, special niece, Marcia (Zahid) Nana, son-in-law Ken Prather, daughter-in-law Mary Jo Cousins, one brother Dr. Robert Parman, three sisters-in-law Betty Parman, Frankie Parman, and Esther Cousins, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and loved ones. The family received friends Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, Missouri. Graveside Funeral Services and burial were held Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the Miller Cemetery, Denver, Missouri. Memorials may be given to the Denver Community Church or the Miller Cemetery.
~OBITUARY~ Foster “Kent” Holcomb December 20, 1938 - November 21, 2021
Foster “Kent” Holcomb, nearly 83 years old, went to meet his heavenly Savior on November 21, 2021. He died at his home in Lynchburg, Tennessee, in the presence of his wife and children who loved him dearly. With his unwavering faith, he had bravely overcome cancer twice, along with other seemingly insurmountable health complications, for twenty-one years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18th, 2021, at the Albany First Baptist Church, in Albany, Missouri, from 9:00-11:00 AM, followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00. Kent’s ashes will be placed next to his parents in Coffey Cemetery in Coffey, Missouri, in a private family service. Kent’s life was previously celebrated in Tennessee with a visitation and memorial service on November 30, 2021, at Lynchburg Funeral Home. Kent was born at home in Harrison County, Missouri, on December 20, 1938, the son of Nova and Dawn (Foster) Holcomb. They preceded him in death, as did his brother, Elanson Holcomb, and sister-inlaw, Juanita Holcomb. Kent was raised in Coffey, Missouri, and was baptized in the Coffey Baptist Church. He graduated from the Coffey High School in 1956, received his Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education from Northwest Missouri State in 1960, and received his Master’s Degree in counseling from Northeast Missouri State in 1966. Kent also furthered his education by earning certification in administration and special education. He served in the National Guard of Missouri from December 1956 to February 1962. He then served in the Army National Guard of Iowa from February 1962 to December 1963. Kent began his career teaching industrial arts in Lineville, Iowa, 1960-1967, becoming also a counselor in 1966. It was during this time, he began dating a hometown lady, Kay Courter, who was attending his alma mater. That courtship led to their marriage on June 7, 1964, at the same church in which they were both raised and baptized. Kent and Kay moved to Belle, Missouri, where he served as the high school principal from 1967-1968. In June, 1968, the couple moved to Albany, Missouri, when Kent left the public school system to become the first educational counselor in the Missouri Department of Mental Health, serving 12 counties at the Albany Regional Center. He was there from 1968-1975, during which time he became the director of the facility. During those years, Kent and Kay were blessed with a daughter and a son, in whose care and rearing, Kent was fully, lovingly, engaged. In 1975 he took a true leap of faith and, with his wife, Kay, started the K & K Opportunity Group Homes. They owned and operated residential homes for the developmentally disabled - one for men and one for women. They sold the business after 31 years of success in providing essential care and safe housing for multiple residents who became part of the Holcombs’ hearts. Kent often talked of the great blessings their children & grandchildren were along with the in-laws. He loved them all dearly. Kent enjoyed farming, hunting, camping and boating with family and friends. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 102 in Albany, Missouri, in the 70s and 80s as his son became involved in Scouts. He was tapped to be an honorary member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say, and was given the name, “Cares-for-Many”. But above all, his love for Christ and church family filled his life with many rewarding moments. He was ordained as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Albany in 1993. He also taught Sunday School classes for the special men and women, and later a class for the widows of the church, whom he affectionately called “my ladies”. Kay, Kent’s beloved wife, his “greatest blessing” as he would say, survives of the home. Other survivors are daughter, Kerra Bowers (Rob) of Richmond, Missouri; son, Korby Holcomb (Angie) of Lynchburg, Tennessee; grandsons Colby (Mallory Cole), Brock and McCauley Bowers all of Richmond, Missouri; Zachary (Jessica) Holcomb of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and granddaughter, Taylor Holcomb of Lynchburg, Tennessee. Other survivors are brother-in-law Jerry Courter (Barbara), of Gladstone, Missouri, nieces, cousins and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Samaritan’s Purse, or to the Benevolence Fund of Main Street Church of Christ, 376 Main St., Lynchburg, Tennessee 37352.

For New Customers Until December 31, 2021 The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (John 3:3, Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”) Last week I was renewing an application and at the end was asked if I had experienced a Life Changing event? Along with the request was a list of possibilities to choose from: Marriage, Divorce, adding a dependent in the household, change of occupation, change of address, so on and so forth. At the very bottom of the application was a large space and the box marked ‘Other’. I thought for a moment and realizing I had not experienced any of the ‘life changing’ events, I pondered? A true-life changing event is what Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus. We should be able to say we’ve experienced a life changing event if we were truly ‘born again’. For the next few verses Nicodemus would question the statement of just how a person who is old can physically be ‘born again’. Jesus knew his heart and mind as He would seek to bring understanding of the Holy Spirit being the only way to eternal life and the kingdom of God, Heaven that is. I challenge you today to think back to the time you knew there was one and only one way to eternal life and if the result was a Life Changing event? This should be the most important event in our life of which nothing else can compare, that is if we have been truly ‘born again’. Born of the ‘Water and Spirit’ is how Jesus told Nicodemus. This comment causes many to question the reference of being born of water? Symbolism runs deep throughout scripture and water immersion baptism being one of which Jesus made this comment to his cousin John as to ‘allow it to be so as to fulfil all righteousness’ just before he went under the waters of the Jordan at the beginning of his ministry. Some believe this refers to a physical birth as the water sac would break as evidenced of an actual physical birth. Others believe this is to be washed by the Water of the Word. Whatever He’s referring to we should not be distracted from the obvious. ‘You must be born again in the spirit’. Have you experienced a life changing event? In Jesus name...
