The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (Proverbs 30:15-16, There are three things that are never satisfied, Four never say, “Enough!”: The grave, the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water—And the fire never says, “Enough!”). Two minutes: on Wednesday morning at 1:00 AM, February 16, my wife and I were awakened by a roar and we soon found our house was ablaze. We were able to get out with her cell phone, my wallet and checkbook, and out the door we went with the clothes on our back. Soon, after a visit with the 911 operator, the fire department came along with the ambulance. Through the flames, heat and toxic fumes the fire department extinguished what was left of our once-humble home as the heat had diminished all of our possessions to a melted smoldering mess. Even so we are so thankful because after an investigation it was determined those two minutes that we were outside until the fire totally consumed the home was all the time that separated us from our heavenly reward. I write this column to say thank you, thank you to God for the angel he sent to wake my wife, thank you to the men of the Stanberry volunteer fire department for sacrificing their time and energy to endure the toxic fumes, the lack of sleep and that lingering smell. Thank you to the ambulance department for knowing that at any moment things could go bad. A thank you to the community so much that I cannot bring up just one name as there are so many that have reached out with support. I am finding out that if a person knows something like this will happen you would’ve been better prepared but with the encouragement from the community and God above we will once again have our humble little home. I’ve been writing a two minute 400 word article for almost 20 years and this is the first time I’ve really appreciated what two minutes is worth.

As I approach the word counter that lets me know my two minutes are almost up, I hope that each and every one of you will take two minutes to appreciate life like you never have before. Appreciate our loved ones, compassion and love from those in our community and especially the love of God for in moments of tragedy his grace and compassion will once again bring us that peace that passes all understanding in the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ to whom I humbly Kneel.
