The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (John 1:15, John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’) In our modern world of conflicting information absolute truth is a pleasant breath of fresh air when given by firsthand account. John the Baptist is making a statement of fulfillment concerning his cousin, Jesus. Even though the ministry of John the Baptist was the baptism leading to repentance: (Acts 13:24, John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.) Coming before the public ministry of Jesus Christ, John’s ministry was as a precursor. (John 3:30, He must increase, but I must decrease.) Stating another eternal truth, John the Baptist was born 6 months before Jesus as given account when Mary visited Elizabeth she would say, (Luke 1:44, “the babe leaped in my womb for joy”.). Although Jesus was not born until 6 months after John the Baptist he was before Him in the sense of eternal existence. (John 17:5, And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.) I’m often awestruck of the amount of wisdom and understanding contained in so few words. Both in the physical and in the spiritual Jesus Christ was the chosen one exhibiting all the fullness as he lived out the statement: (Rev 19:10, Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”) (John 1:16-17, And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.) Jesus proclaimed this: (Luke 22:20, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.) The law proclaimed death and required obedience of which was written on tablets of stone versus Grace which was to be engraved on the heart requiring absolute devotion to God. True Grace is acknowledgment of His Love and sacrifice without no one can experience eternal life. Grace for grace requires much more than a ceremony or taking a vow but is payment for sin that without leads to eternal torment in the lake of fire. Sadly, many fail to understand that absolute devotion to God is required through His son Jesus Christ.
